Rami Malek Officially Announced As Villain For ‘Bond 25’

Jamaica holds a special place for the James Bond franchise. Parts of Dr. No and Live and Let Die were filmed there. In addition, Ian Fleming’s Goldeneye villa is on the island nation. It’s only fitting the Bond 25 announcement was made from there.

An official title for the 25th installment is still under wraps, but the returning cast and new additions were announced, along with some teases on what to expect.

Joining Daniel Craig as 007 for one more round are returning players Ralph Fiennes (as M), Naomie Harris (as Moneypenny), Lea Seydeoux (as Madeleine), Ben Whishaw (as Q), Rory Kinnear (as Tanner), and Jeffrey Wright (as Felix from Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace).

Newbies come in the form of Flash‘s Dali Benssalah, Velvet Buzzsaw‘s Billy Magnussen, Blade Runner 2049‘s Ana de Armas, Captain Marvel‘s Lashana Lynch, Quicksand‘s David Dencik and Oscar winner Rami Malek. The Bohemian Rhapsody star will play the villain.

“I will be making sure Mr. Bond doesn’t have an easy ride in this,” the Oscar winner said in a recorded message which aired during the live-streamed event on Thursday. While on Good Morning America, he promised to give Craig “a run for his money.”

Producer Barbara Broccoli
teased a few tidbits. “Bond is not on active service when we start the film. So, he is actually enjoying himself in Jamaica,” which she calls a “spiritual home” for the character. “We start the story here and we built an extraordinary house for him,” Broccoli continues, and adds there’s “quite a ride in store for Mr. Bond.”

Handling directing duties is Cary Fukunaga who replaced Danny Boyle after he left. Bond 25 is schedule to arrive in the US on April 8, 2020 and bow in the UK on April 3, 2020. Watch the event announcement below.
