News of this collaboration first broke last summer when a photo surfaced of Donald Glover and Rihanna filming in Cuba. Many months later, we finally know when this secretive project will arrive.
Guava Island will premiere at the 2019 Coachella Music Festival on Thursday, a day before Glover and his alter ego Childish Gambino headlines Friday night of the festival. It will then continue to screen on the Coachella grounds until the end of the festival. For those not heading to Indio, it drops on Amazon Saturday, April 13 at 12:01 a.m.
“Guava Island is the end result of four incredible weeks spent in Cuba with some of the most inspiring creative talents I’ve ever met. Designers, performers, musicians, and filmmakers came together from all over the world to create this crazy fever dream of a production,” said director Hiro Murai.
Glover adds, “I’m really humbled having the opportunity to present something this timely and timeless. Between Rihanna and the people of Cuba, this is one of my favorite projects I’ve ever worked on.”
In addition to Glover and Rihanna, Nonso Anozie (Zoo) and Letitia Wright (Black Panther) also co-star.
