FOX Renews ‘9-1-1’ & ‘The Resident’

It’s business as usual over at FOX. The newly-independent network has renewed dramas 9-1-1 and The Resident for next season. Both will enter their respective third seasons. They’re the first two live-action scripted series to be renewed since the Disney deal closed, making FOX an independent broadcast network.

During its sophomore run, 9-1-1 has been generating 10.2 million viewers and a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 when delayed viewing is factored in. Across all platforms, the audience rises to 15.4 million. 9-1-1 is the network’s #1 drama and ranks among the season’s Top 10 entertainment programs among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, across all broadcast and cable networks.

9-1-1 stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Rockmund Dunbar and Kenneth Choi. Ryan Guzman and Jennifer Love Hewitt joined this season.

“9-1-1 redefined what a procedural series can be, consistently delivering edge-of-your-seat emergencies, mixed with emotional story arcs and incredible performances from one of the most powerful teams of actors on television,” said Michael Thorn, President, FOX Entertainment. “Kudos to Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Tim Minear and their entire crew, as well as the amazing cast anchored by Angela Bassett, Peter Krause and Jennifer Love Hewitt for raising the bar week after week.”

Meanwhile, The Resident has been averaging 7.78 million viewers and a 1.6 in the 18-49 demo. The audience grows to 11 million when all platforms are included.

The Resident stars Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Bruce Greenwood, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Melina Kanakearedes and Manish Dayal. Jane Leeves joined the cast during Season 2.

“Amy Holden Jones, Todd Harthan and the team behind THE RESIDENT continue to showcase their brilliant storytelling, revealing both the triumphs and tragedy within the medical world. Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp and Bruce Greenwood, along with the stellar cast, have developed rich and compelling characters through their heartfelt performances. We want to thank our producing partners, 20th Century Fox Television, who have steered these two extraordinary series. Both 9-1-1 and THE RESIDENT have many, many more stories to tell and we can’t wait to deliver them to fans next season.”

Do you watch either show? I only watch 9-1-1 and love it, although Season 2 hasn’t featured enough Stark and his character Evan Buckley. I love me some Buck 🙂
