First up, the Marvel superhero series, The Gifted, which is set in the world of X-Men received the axe after two seasons. Critically speaking, Season 2 was more well received than the first. Problem is, the ratings just weren’t there. Season 2 averaged a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating in Live+7, about half of its Season 1 average (2.0), and 3.3 million viewers.
The Gifted starred True Blood alum Stephen Moyer, Jamie Chung, Amy Acker, Sean Teale, Natalie Alyn Lind, Coby Bell, Percy Hynes White Grace Byers, Skyler Samuels and Emma Dumont. The show revolved around two ordinary parents who take their family on the run from the government when they discover that their children have mutant abilities. They join an underground community of mutants who have to fight to survive.
Also receiving eviction papers was freshman comedy Rel which was co-created by Get Out’s Lil Rel Howery. The 39-year-old actor played a nurse living on the West Side of Chicago, whose life is soon disrupted when his wife is having an affair with his own barber and divorces him. Jordan L. Jones, Jess Moore and Sinbad also starred.
The comedy averaged just a 0.8 live + same day rating in adults 18-49 with 2.03 million viewers, making it the network’s second-lowest-rated freshman title of the season, behind only Friday night drama, Proven Innocent.
