Elton John is hardly young, dumb or broke. However, his timeless vocals fit like a glove on his cover of “Young Dumb And Broke” originally recorded by Khalid. The 71-year-old living legend even convinced Khalid to hop on his rendition to make it an unforgettable duet. John recorded the glossy cover for the ongoing Spotify Singles series.
“I discovered Khalid’s music a few years ago, and have been a fan ever since. We finally met when I played his home town of El Paso last year.” He continues, “It’s a thrill to be a small part of any new artist’s journey, and it’s been wonderful to see his star continue to rise and rise. ‘Young Dumb & Broke’ is a fabulous song, one of my favorites and I’m really pleased that he liked my cover enough to contribute vocals.”
In addition to “Young Dumb And Broke,” Elton delivered an updated version of his classic hit “Bennie And The Jets,” originally recorded for his 1974 album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. His new take is as fantastic as the original. It’s still a bop. Give both tracks a listen below.
