DWTS Season 17: The Finale Performances & The Winner Revealed

As long as Jack Osbourne doesn’t pull a miracle out of his ass, I’ll be fine with either Corbin Bleu or Amber Riley winning. I just wish the latter was paired up with someone else than Derek Hough. Does he really need another win under his belt. With that being said, I don’t think Amber would’ve done nearly as well without Derek’s insane choreography. He’s definitely the most talented out of the pros.

The show kicked off as the season began, with that wicked group number choreographed by Mandy Moore. After that, each of the stars danced an encore. My personal favorite retreads were Bill Nye’s “Weird Science” and Snooki’s “Work, Bitch.” The latter introduced a whackload of new dance moves. Lady Antebellum, Colbie Caillat, Enrique Iglesias and Swedish duo Ylvis all dropped by for the two-hour extravaganza. Being the cheesefest that DWTS is, everyone got into “The Fox” spirit and donned their faux animal ears. Can we put this novelty single to pasture to keep “Gangnam Style” company?

It’s also worth nothing that viewers picked Amber and Derek’s freestyle as the encore. Is that foreshadowing the winner or simply a red herring? I think the former, but anything can Ellie Goulding happen.

24 Hour Fusion Challenge Performances

The remaining three acts had less than 24 hours to choreograph a brand new routine. With no public votes factoring in, the couples wisely chose to cater their performances to the judges. Even with a slight stumble, I felt Corbin deserved a perfect score. The quality and difficulty of his moves were far superior to the other two. Watch and compare them and see if you agree with me.

Corbin Bleu & Karina Smirnoff (Cha Cha Cha-Foxtrot)

Score: 27

Jack Osbourne & Cheryl Burke (Paso Doble-Salsa)

Score: 27

Amber Riley & Derek Hough (Samba-Quickstep)

Score: 30

The Results

Thank God there was no major upset in store. Jack Osbourne, rightfully so, was eliminated, tying his sister’s result during her season. It was all down to Amber or Corbin? Out of the two, Amber is definitely the underdog and America loves to root for one. The Season 17 winner is Miss Riley. WOOHOO. I was hoping for the Glee gang to attack her with hugs after Tom Bergeron handed her the trophy. Alas, that never happened. Congrats to Amber and Derek again (UGH). Believe it or not, Amber is the show’s first African-American female winner. Insane right? Mel B, Mya and Zendaya all fell just short, earning runner-up status.

Season 17 was arguably one of the better ones in recent history. I wonder if the results would’ve been different had Dancing With The Stars not downsized to just one night. I’m sure not so many shocking eliminations would’ve occurred. Snooki, Elizabeth Berkley and Brant Daugherty were all voted off too soon. Check out a few of the memorable moments from the finale below.
