Castle Rock is a Hulu anthology series based on characters and settings from the stories of Stephen King set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine. The cast for Season 2 has been announced and it’s an intriguing one.
The 10-episode sophomore run is being billed as a Misery-themed prequel. The official logline reads, “A feud between warring clans comes to a boil when Annie Wilkes, King’s nurse from hell, gets waylaid in Castle Rock.”
Masters of Sex alum Lizzy Caplan has been tapped to play “budding psychopath” Annie Wilkes. The part made famous by Kathy Bates in the 1990 horror film. She’ll be joined by Elsie Fisher (Eighth Grade) as Annie’s daughter Joy, Tim Robbins (Bull Durham) as Reginald “Pop” Merrill, the dying head of the Merrill crime family and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) as John “Ace” Merrill, Pop’s nephew who stands to take over the family business.
This isn’t the first time Robbins has appeared in a King-themed project. He previously starred in 1994’s Shawshank Redemption, which was based on King’s 1982 novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.
The other members of the ensemble cast include Yusra Warsama (NBC’s Dracula), Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips) and Matthew Alan (13 Reasons Why).
Didn’t watch the first season of Castle Rock but will definitely check out Season 2. Love Misery and Lizzy Caplan so I’m here for it. Thoughts on Castle Rock? Weigh in below.
