At 70-years-young, Bette Midler isn’t slowing down. The Divine Miss M is heading back to the Great White Way for a new production of Hello, Dolly! It’s the first new staging of the classic musical in more than 50 years.
“I am looking forward to portraying one of the most beloved characters in all of American Musical Comedy, Dolly Levi, born Gallagher, in Hello, Dolly!” Bette Midler declared. “I know I’m going to have the time of my life, and I am so glad to be under the wings of Scott Rudin as producer and Jerry Zaks as director.”
After a 40-year absence, Midler returned to Broadway for her one-woman play, I’ll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers, back in 2013. She made her Broadway debut back in the 60s in the original production of Fiddler on the Roof.
Featuring music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and a book by Michael Stewart, the Hello, Dolly! revival is set to begin performances on March 13, 2017 with an official opening night of April 20, 2017 being eyed.
