“Thank U, Next” is still racking up the streams and dominating the charts, but that isn’t stopping Ariana Grande from sharing its follow-up. The 25-year-old singer just dropped a dreamy new track that’s off her forthcoming album, scheduled to drop early 2019.
“Imagine” finds Ari longing for a sweet and conflict-free romance. Fans seem to think it’s inspired by her ex Mac Miller. The late rapper sported an “Imagine” tattoo on his arm. Prior to the song’s release, Grande described the song via social media.
“A lot of this album mourns failed yet important, beautiful relationships in my life (as well as celebrates growth/exploring new independence),” she wrote in a screenshot she shared on her Instagram Story. “But for those of you asking about ‘Imagine’: I would say if ‘Thank U, Next’ = acceptance… ‘Imagine’ = denial. Hope that makes sense.”
She later clarified the above description on Twitter saying, “Kind of like… pretending it never ended. Denial. But I look forward to you hearing it and having your own experience with it. You may take away something totally different and specific to your life! Love u.”
It’s not a bop like “Thank U, Next” but I’m equally obsessed, especially with those whistle notes. Very early Mariah Carey. Give it a listen below.

In other Ariana news, the pint-sized diva supported her brother Frankie with his cover of the iconic Rent track “Seasons Of Love.” She sings background vocals during the chorus and is featured in the video. I kinda was hoping she’d have a solo and slay a couple of lines, but alas not. Give Frankie’s cover a spin below.
“I am beyond honored to have worked on this incredible project with my best friends in the world including my wonderful sister. Thank you Ariana for vocal producing as well as adding your magical voice to this beautiful song. I am so happy that I got to sing with you on one of our favorite Broadway songs from one of our favorite Broadway shows, RENT! Thank you Ben for filming, directing & singing! Thank you to Jon-Erik and Dominic for not only your vocal support but your emotional support & love that you give me every single day. I love you all so much and will cherish this moment for the rest of my life, so happy we filmed it!” – Frankie wrote on YouTube.
