That’s right, Wikipedia for the queer community is here: WikiQueer.org.

“I’d been developing the idea for a queer-specific wiki for a few years,” WikiQueer founder and lead administrator Gregory Varnum told Philly magazine. ”I’ve helped with dozens of pages and projects on Wikipedia and helped start a number of wikis designed for queer-related projects. However, I consistently came back to the need for a wiki by and for the queer community free of any organization politics or turf wars.”

WikiQueer officially soft launched on July 25th, 2011, but the Inauguration of WikiQueer occurred on February 29, 2012. The Inauguration “celebrates the completion of WikiQueer’s initial development and fully opens our doors to your participation.” Since it is a work in progress and totally user based, the site needs people to “take the leap” and help by creating and requesting new articles.
