Before Henry Cavill burns up theater screens as the latest Superman in Man of Steel, I thought I’d highlight one of the hottest men ever to don the superhero costume. Not going to lie, Tom Welling is definitely my type and I can’t believe it took me this long to feature him in my Man Crush series. If you thought the Smallville actor was cute back in the day, he’s even hotter today. The slight salt-and-pepper buzz cut really works for him. WOOF.
Welling was born in Upstate New York. Before landing his breakout role in the WB series, the 36-year-old actor guest starred in Judging Amy and Undeclared. He’s appeared in the Cheaper By The Dozen films and the 2005 remake of The Fog. Since Smallville ended, Tom tried his hand behind the scenes. He executive produced the short lived cheerleading series, Hellcats.
He’ll return to the big screen later this year, appearing with Zac Efron and Paul Giamatti in Parkland. The Tom Hanks-produced film follows the events that occurred at Parkland Memorial Hospital after JFK’s assassination. It’s scheduled to hit theaters in November 2013 to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the historic event. Check out photos of Welling then and now below.
Apparently I was crush-less in April. I can’t believe I didn’t write a Man Crush post during the entire month. To get back in the saddle (so to speak), I planned on highlighting a completely different stud but since One Life To Live returned back to the airwaves (or should I say online for their relaunch), I thought I’d crush on one of its stars.
Meet Josh Kelly. Not to be confused with Katherine Heigl’s hubby Josh Kelley, this Josh is a buff drink of blond water. Born in Japan, Kelly lived the life of your typical army brat, living in various locations (Guam, Philippines, Maryland, Georgia, Maine) during his childhood. After graduating high school, he followed in his father’s footsteps and enlisted in the Army where he served three tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.
Before landing the role of Cutter Wentworth on One Life To Live, the 31-year-old actor played bit roles on Ugly Betty, True Blood, Army Wives and Rizzoli and Isles to name a few. He made the leap to the silver screen when Michael Bay cast him in Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. Josh returned for Transformers: Dark of the Moon where he appeared in front of the camera and served as a military consultant after Bay saw his post-traumatic stress short film, Cope. Some men get better with age and that couldn’t be truer than with Jesse Spencer. The 34-year-old actor looks smoking hot on NBC’s Chicago Fire. Time has certainly served him well… that or his fireman gear. What can I say? I have a thing for uniforms. I’m sure I’m not alone. Since I already featured his co-star Taylor Kinney, it was time for Spencer to have his very own Man Crush post.
Most North American viewers know Spencer for playing Dr. Robert Chase on House. Did you know Jesse plays the violin and is in the group, Band from TV, with his former House co-star Hugh Laurie? Here’s another fun fact. Patrick Dempsey also auditioned for the role, but lost out to the Aussie. Dempsey bounced back with a little show called Grey’s Anatomy. Can you imagine if things had worked out for McDreamy?
Jesse was born in Melbourne, Australia. His first major acting gig, like many Aussie actors in Hollywood, was for the popular soap Neighbours. His other notable acting credits include Uptown Girls with Brittany Murphy and playing the love interest in Katharine McPhee’s “Say Goodbye” music video.
Currently, he’s in a relationship actress Michelle Borth. The two have been dating since 2010. Previously, he was with his House co-star Jennifer Morrison who now stars in ABC’s Once Upon A Time. Where have I been? Clearly I was missing out by not watching TBS’ Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. This week’s Man Crush starred in the show for eight seasons. Did you know the comedy-drama aired more episodes (254 in total) than any another television series with a predominantly African-American cast? It beat out The Jeffersons (253 episodes), Family Matters (215 episodes) and The Cosby Show (202 episodes). Shocking right?
Meet Lance Gross, a 31-year-old actor hailing from Oakland, California. This sexy stud holds a Bachelor of Arts in theater from Howard University. Gross made his television debut with a guest starring spot on Eve’s self-titled sitcom on the UPN. Since then he’s become a favorite of Tyler Perry, starring in a couple of his movies. I don’t blame Perry for casting him often. Lance is one hot piece of ass. Gross also appeared with America Ferrera in Our Family Wedding and in Lifetime’s remake of Steel Magnolias starring Queen Latifah.
If you’re wondering about his personal life, Gross previously dated an America’s Next Top Model winner. Eva Pigford (Cycle 3) was the lucky woman to wake up to this sexy beast every morning for several years. At one point they were even engaged. Sadly, they ended it and parted ways. Long before Matthew Terry strutted his body for Calvin Klein, Travis Fimmel was the face for the underwear brand. This blond-haired Aussie was the most in-demand male model at the time. Some say he was the inspiration for Sex and the City’s Smith Jerrod. Once you see his CK ads, you’ll definitely see the SATC comparison. With his new television show scoring boffo ratings for the History Channel, I thought it was a perfect time to pick him as this week’s Man Crush.
The 33-year-old was discovered while working out at a gym in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn. Fimmel has the distinction of becoming the first male model to ink a six-figure deal to model exclusively for Calvin Klein. Since hanging up his CK undies, he’s appeared in several television shows including the WB’s ill-fated modern-day adaptation of Tarzan co-starring Leighton Meester and Lucy Lawless. The show was canceled after eight episodes.
His other credits include appearing with Patrick Swayze in A&E’s The Beast and feature films The Experiment (Adrien Brody, Cam Gigandet) and The Baytown Outlaws (Andre Braugher, Eva Longoria). I’m probably the only one watching NBC’s Revenge-y drama, Deception. Truth be told, it’s not very good but I keep tuning in for some reason. Perhaps, it’s due to the hotness that is David A Gregory who plays bad boy Kyle Farrell. The show is most likely to receive the ax from the peacock network any day now. Hopefully, Gregory lands another gig. He’s too fine to be an unemployed actor.
David hails from Fairbanks, Alaska. He has a degree in music and theater from Ohio’s Baldwin-Wallace College Music Theater Program. The 27-year-old landed his big break when he signed on with daytime soap, One Life To Live. Instantly, he became the fantasy of many lustful housewives. In addition to his three year stint on the soap opera, Gregory’s credits include guest spots on Law & Order and Gossip Girl. She pictured him shedding his clothes and doing his best Magic Mike impersonation. If you were wondering who that tasty piece of man meat is, his name is Peter Porte. Naturally, I chose the 27-year-old as this week’s Man Crush. Ya’ll know I’m a sucker for a ripped bod and stripper moves ;)
Porte was born in Greenwood Lake, New York and graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2006 with a degree in Drama and Journalism. After traveling from a touring production of Mamma Mia, he attended graduate school at the Fashion Institute of Technology.
In 2008, he moved to Los Angeles and immediately booked a gig on Medium. Soon after, he booked other guest starring spots including CSI Miami, Cold Case & Parks and Recreation. Recently, he appeared as Ricky Williams on the long-running soap, The Young & The Restless. Check out photos of this model/actor below. If you read my review of A Good Day To Die Hard, you’re fully aware Jai Courtney was the best (and hottest thing) from that tragic hot mess. At first, I wasn’t on board with the decision to cast the 26-year-old Aussie over Liam Hemsworth and Aaron Paul, but after watching his fine ass (among other body parts) in the latest Die Hard flick, I approve.
Courtney was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. His big break came when he landed the role of Varro in STARZ’s Spartacus. That exposure (literally… have you seen what they wear on that show) led to a role in Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher. Even though playing John McClane’s son in the fifth installment is supposed to be his breakout role, I don’t think it will be. The action flick is truly horrible. Hopefully, his next film, I, Frankenstein with Aaron Eckhart which is scheduled to hit theaters Fall 2013 will serve as a better star-making launching pad. Check out this stud’s assets below.
