The most glamorous fashion show of the year aired last night on CBS. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is one of my favorite events of the year. There’s something about watching barely-clothed glamazon women strutting their stuff on the glittered runway that I find truly fascinating. I’m not alone.
Typically I have people over, but due to a prior commitment, I couldn’t host a gathering. The yearly telecast consistently does well in the ratings with the 2011 edition reaching heavenly heights. No wonder the reported budget for this year’s show ballooned to $12 million. Definitely a hefty hike from the first show back in 1995 which cost $120,000 to produce. Was the money worth it?
The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is one of my favorite events of the year. No lie. I look forward to it like a child does Christmas Day. This year, I finally got an in to check out the event but prior obligations prevented me from flying out to New York City. Oh well, maybe next year.
CBS doesn’t air the fashion show until December 10, but the extravaganza was held last night at the Lexington Avenue Armory. Fashion TV was on hand to film a sneak preview of the Angels strutting the runway with their elaborate oversized wings. In addition, they give a sneak peek at performances by Fall Out Boy, A Great Big World and Taylor Swift. The latter even sashayed along with the models. Stick to your day job TayTay. Watch the video below.
Last year Alessandra Ambrosio earned the prestigious honor, this time it’s Candice Swanepoel who gets to put her ample tatas in the covet bejeweled bra. It’s the South African beauty’s first time wearing the Fantasy Bra which this year has been dubbed the Royal Fantasy Bra. No doubt in reference to the numerous precious gems gracing the undergarment.
Created by Mouawad, this year’s bra and matching belt features over 4,200 precious gems, including rubies, diamonds and yellow sapphires set in 18 carat gold with a 52-carat ruby at the center. All in all, it’s worth roughly $10 million. Definitely a price hike given last year’s $2.5 million price tag. I have to say, I much prefer this year’s aristocratic design than last year’s floral one.
Check out the previous designs below and be sure to tune in to CBS on December 10 for the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It’s one of my favorite annual television events of the year.
Some consider Thanksgiving the start to the Holiday Season, while others wait for December 1st. For me, it’s when CBS airs their annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. No lie. It’s one of my favorite things in the entire world. Mark my words, one day I will attend it front row, hanging out with the supermodels respective boyfriends ;) While not as potent as last year’s telecast, the lingerie fashion show still managed to be the highest rated program of the night in the coveted demo. Congrats ladies.
For me, this wasn’t one of the best outings by Victoria’s Secret. I thought there was TOO much focus on the music acts. Rihanna, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars all performed two sons apiece. IMHO, the show shines the best when it’s all about the ladies sashaying down the runway to a wicked mash-up. It’s their one time a year to shine. We can watch RiRi and the Biebs on the X Factor, Grammys, AMAs, VMAs and the list go on.
That said, there were a few highlights. The “Circus” theme was brilliant (thanks to the awesome mashup) as was the “Silver Screen Angels“. The giant-sized pinball props for the “Pink Is Us” was also worth noting. Even though a few ensembles from the “Calendar Girls” segment made my Top 15 list, it was the worst theme. When the outfits went wrong, they went horribly wrong. Check out my Top 15 favorites from last night’s show.
When CBS airs its annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on December 4, Alessandra Ambrosio will be sparkling brighter than all the rest of her VS Angel compatriots. The Brazilian supermodel is this year’s chosen one to wear the company’s Fantasy Bra. Believe it or not, it’s the first time the 31-year-old stunner earns this honor. I can’t believe that tacky Marisa Miller even wore the Fantasy Bra before her. Talk about supermodel injustice ;)
Designed by London Jewelers, this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fantasy Bra is worth approximately $2.5 million and part of the Floral Fantasy Gift Set. The push-up bra is bedazzled with amethysts, sapphires, tsavorite, rubies, and white, pink and yellow diamonds, set in 18-karat rose and yellow gold. The set also includes two removable diamond flower pins and a 12.5-carat diamond, 20-carat diamond centerpiece and a sparkly belt.
Personally, I’m not a fan of this year’s design. It looks like an ugly bedazzled vegetable garden on Ambrosio’s cleavage. Check out how this year’s showpiece stacks up to previous Fantasy Bras below.
December is my favorite time of year, and not just because of Christmas, New Year’s Eve and all the parties. The month also brings me one of my favorite annual television events… the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Yup, I love me some supermodels sashaying on a glittered runway in their bra, panties and bedazzled outfits. I’ve been a religious viewer for as long as they’ve been airing them. Last year brought the show their best Nielsen ratings since 2002. Coming off that success, I expect the 2012 show to be the most fabulous ever.
Every year, musical acts are brought in to provide some “live” singing interspersed with all the wicked mashups. Last year brought Maroon 5, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West and Jay-Z. While Katy Perry and Akon, along with the Black Eyed Peas booked the gig for the 2010 and 2009 shows respectively. This year, the honor goes to Rihanna. The “We Found Love” singer is scheduled to perform at the upcoming event which will be taped in November and air on December 4, 2012 at 10pm on CBS. The Bajan beauty singer won’t be alone. She’ll be joined by two male solo acts as well. Care to make any guesses?
Last night’s titillating “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” gave CBS executives a collective stiffy this morning. Naturally, you’d think it was due to the skimpy outfits the VS Angels wore down the glittered runway. Alas, I’m sure that partly helped, but execs love high ratings more than scantily-clad Glamazons. The Angels delivered in a big way. Not sure if Maroon 5, Nicki Minaj or Kanye West helped to inflate those numbers or if people were just in the mood for some T&A. Whatever the reason, I’m just glad that next year’s telecast is now a sure thing. If you haven’t checked out the recap of my 15 favorite outfits from the special, click here and do it now.
Typically, we don’t report on overnight Neilsen ratings, but I had to share this since I’m a huge fan of the yearly extravaganza. The annual event scored its best ratings since 2002. The hour-long show garnered a strong 4.6 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and attracted 10.3 million viewers. That number represents a whopping 35% leap from last year’s telecast. The show handily crushed everything last night and won the evening. CBS often wins the ratings war with regards to overall viewers but rarely wins the 18-49 demo. Last night, the network showed advertisers they too, can be young and hip.
For some, Thanksgiving signals the beginning of the Holiday season, while others begin their fa la la’ing on December 1st. Not me. Nothing revs up my engine for the festive season like the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. This is how I like to ring in the holidays. Yuppers, I’m that kind of gay. You would be too, if you watched the yearly specials.
Everything you’ve come to expect from the annual extravaganza was on hand. From campy themes, sexy women, high-wattage musical performances and Swarovski crystals by the crate, all were in order to stage an unforgettable show. This year’s production held at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City cost a reported $12 million to stage. YOWZA, that’s a lot of panties and bras. What’s the markup on Victoria’s Secret’s lingerie? Papa needs to look into if they sell franchises.
Victoria’s Secret Angels Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr, Doutzen Kroes, Erin Heatherton, Lily Aldridge, Lindsay Ellingson, Candice Swanepoel and Chanel Iman along with a bevy of other beauties showed off their toned bodies in six creatively themed segments. Maroon 5, Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z and Kanye West provided stand out performances for the girls to strut to. That being said, I much prefer it when the girls sashay down to custom mashups instead of the live music. It should be all about the models and outfits, instead of the musical acts. They have enough televised opportunities to show of their vocal abilities.
