Brooke White Covers “Use Somebody”
Ever since I attended the Sasquatch Music Festival a couple of months ago, I’ve become a huge Kings of Leon fan. Their hit “Use Somebody” was probably played a hundred times during Brian and my road trip to San Francisco. Yesterday, I came across a cover by one of my favorite American Idol Season 6 contestants, Brooke White. During Season 6, Brooke won me over with her acoustic style performances of Let it Be, Love is a Battlefield and You’re So Vain. She was a breath of fresh air from all the oversinging divas that usually dominate Idol. I love her folky Carole King-ish interpretation of this track. What do you think?

Kelly Clarkson Gets Screwed Again
No wonder she’s gained weight- she’s been eating her feelings. Kelly Clarkson has once again lost a battle with her record label. This time it was over the release of her third single, “Already Gone” from her “All Ever I Wanted” album. If you’ve heard the single and can’t figure out why it sounds so similar here’s the reason. The track, though co-written by Clarkson, was produced by Ryan Tedder who unbeknownst to her, had given the same track to Beyonce. Eeks. When Kelly finally caught wind of this and heard Halo, her album had already been shipped out to stores. Since it was out of her control now, Kelly pleaded with her label to not release the single. A plea that went unheard apparently as the single was released and a video was made. Here is an excerpt from an interview Kelly Clarkson did with the CBC.
“No one’s gonna be sittin’ at home, thinking ‘Man, Ryan Tedder gave Beyoncé and Kelly the same track to write to.’ ” she said. “No, they’re just gonna be saying I ripped someone off…
“I fought and fought” to stop it, she said, but couldn’t. “In the end, they’re releasing it without my consent,” says a frustrated Clarkson. “It sucks, but it’s one of those things I have no control over. I already made my album. At this point, the record company can do whatever they want with it. It’s kind of a shitty situation, but . . . you know, you learn.”
Poor Kelly, she always seems to get a raw deal from her record label. On a side note, doesn’t Kelly look pretty in this video? Video after the jump.
