With the Oscars taking over Hollywood tonight, the movie industry is buzzing. In it’s annual tradition, the anti-Oscars or, The Razzies revealed their list of winners (or losers depending on how you look at it) last night. In an almost clean sweep, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 took home seven out of the ten awards.
The vampire themed series took home Worst Director and Worst Movie among others. My favorite award winner of the night however has to be Kristen Stewart. The dead-panned actress won the award for Worst Actress not only for her skills (or lack there of) in Twilight but also for her role in Snow White and The Huntsman.
The ceremony took place at a Hollywood hotel by the Dolby Theatre where the Oscars will take place this evening. As expected, none of the evening’s award recipients made it to the event unlike Sandra Bullock who attended the ceremony in 2009 to accept her Razzie for worst actress in All About Steve.
Kristen Stewart and her blood-sucking crew once again ruled this weekend’s box office making it a three-peat for the final chapter of the Twilight franchise. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 added another 17.4 million to its impressive total. Landing in the runner-up slot (just barely) is the lastest James Bond flick which scored $17 million. Skyfall continues to increase its total as the biggest grossing 007 flick of all-time.
While Twilight and Skyfall continued their reign over the box office, a notable newcomer failed to create much excitement at the cash registers. Brad Pitt’s latest drama, Killing Them Softly, opened weakly with only $7 million. While critics were generally kind to the arty hit man flick, audiences were not. The film scored the very rare, and embarrassing, “F” from audiences via CinemaScore. OUCH. Someone might want to take a hit on whomever greenlit this project ;)
In other box office news, two Oscar frontrunners continued to impress. Silver Linings Playbook starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper had the highest theater average in the Top 10 and declined much smaller from last weekend’s Thanksgiving-inflated numbers than any other film. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck’s Argo crossed the all-important $100 million milestone in its 8th weekend of release. Check out what else landed in the Top 10 this week below.
This weekend, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opened in theatres with an astounding estimated $141.3 million. This is the fifth and final instalment of the Twilight series was just above the $138.12 million start of last year’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and just below the $142.84 million start of 2009’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon. On it’s own, it was the eighth largest opening weekend performance of all-time, and tenth when inflation is taken into account.
Skyfall, which dominated the box office last weekend, came in second this weekend and brought in an estimated $41.5 million. That brings its total to $161.3 million so far. In third place was Lincoln, a Steven Spielberg-directed drama starring Daniel Day-Lewis that opened this weekend. Find out how much the film brought in and what other films make up the top 10 list below.
Christian Serratos, who plays Bella’s friend Angela in Twilight, is featured in a Día de los Muertos–inspired ad for PETA. The tagline of the ad reads, “Respect Life. Go Vegetarian.” In the behind the scenes video (which I have included below along with the ad), Serratos explains her reasoning for going vegetarian and the benefits she has experienced:
“When I stopped eating meat, I noticed that it was easier for me to focus, and I was really proud of myself for being green also. … I had a plethora of reasons for going vegetarian. I was eating meat and didn’t know how it affected my health …. I just felt better and brighter and lighter, and I had more energy …. It was a big deal to me, being an animal lover, that I realized what I was eating, and I didn’t separate myself from, say, my animals, my pets.”
Serratos has been working with PETA since she was 14-years old and is really passionate about bringing awareness and education to people about all of the animal cruelty that goes on in the world. She even expresses her deep concern for how animals are treated in the circus. Check out the graveyard ad and behind the scenes video and interview below.
The last time we wrote about a “Bad Lip Reading” video was quite some time ago and it was for a hilarious interprettation of a Michael Buble music video. In case you haven’t seen one before, essentially they take the sound away and reinterpret what it looks like they could be saying when they move their lips. The video you’re about to watch is a perfect example.
Given all the drama surrounding the Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart breakup, this was the perfect time to do a lip read from Twilight to just bring some light-hearted fun to the franchise. The video puts together a handful of scenes between Edward and Bella and replaces their original dialogue with the most ridiculous and amazing conversation.
My favorite part of the video is when Bella says to Edward, “Dude. You slapped a fish. You punched? it. Why would hit it?” Edward responds, “I wanted to make some seafood.” The best part is that it looks like this was the actual conversation. Enjoy the video below!
A couple of months ago, posters of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner debuted online. Given that they’re the three main stars of the “Twilight” franchise, it only makes sense the studio used their images as part of the first promotional push for the last installment of the vampire films. Almost two months later, the secondary characters are finally getting their due.
23 character posters of those appearing in “Breaking Dawn Part 2” were unveiled during Comic-Con. As with all the previous films, the Cullen clan all receive their own images. Also in the graphic pack are those from the Denali clan and characters from all the covens, including the Egyptian, Irish, Amazon and Romanian ones.
Personally, I can’t wait for the “Twilight Saga” to die a true death. Sure, I’ve watched them, out of necessity because of our site, but they aren’t the best written films. The Harry Potter franchise is far superior and even with only one film under its belt, “The Hunger Games” is better than all the Twilight films combined. I’m probably going to receive massive hate from all the Twihards, but oh well… it’s my two cents. Check out all the brand new character posters below.
It’s almost time for the final ‘Twilight‘ film to come out, as the ‘Breaking Dawn: Part 2‘ official trailer has just been released. This is the fifth and final installment of the insanely popular film franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s books.
Needless to say, since this is Part 2 the film picks up where the last one left off. Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart – 2012’s Highest Paid Actress) is now a vampire with red eyes and super strength. The fact that she and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) are the same temperature is especially a turn on for him. She has also given birth to Renesmee…
After her birth, the Cullens gather other vampire clans in order to protect the child from a false allegation that puts the family in front of the Volturi. Check out the trailer below. The film hits theatres on November 16.
Last night, the latest Twilight film Breaking Dawn premiered in Hollywood and the stars turned it out on a special edition black carpet. I guess the days of a traditional red carpet is semi-over. I’ve been to more multi-colored carpets lately than red. I guess it all seemed fitting for the vampire flick. Among the celebrities hitting the carpet were film stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Robert donned simple but effected gray suit and black tie while Kristen looked stunning in a long J. Mendel dress.
While Donovan usually covers the red carpets and fashion posts, I thought I’d take my hand at delivering a few of my favorite fashions from the night and pitting them against each other. Who do you think will come out on top in the fashion battle royale? It’s your decision so check out all the outfits below and pick your favorites.
