In Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, Harry Osborn was played by James Franco. Now it seems director Marc Webb has found his Osborn for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Reportedly, the new Harry beat out stiff competition for the role. Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables), Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Douglas Booth (Romeo and Juliet) were just a few names reportedly up for the role. Webb calls this actor “an exciting and extraordinary young actor and he is a fantastic addition to our cast.”
Speaking of cast, Andrew Garfield returns as the masked vigilante as does Emma Stone to reprise her role of Gwen Stacy. For the second installment, Stone has competition for Spidey’s heart. Mary Jane Watson arrives and will be played by Shailene Woodley (The Descendants). Her addition was confirmed previously as was Jamie Foxx’s casting as the villainous Electro. Filming reportedly will begin early 2013 with a tentative release date of May 2, 2014 planned. Find out who’s playing Peter Parker’s best friend below.
This weekend, the fourth installment of Ice Age opened in theaters and certainly succeeded in getting the nut at the box office. ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift‘ brought in an estimated $46 million this weekend and although it was the top film this weekend, it was slightly below expectations. This is the lowest opening for the franchise, with the original Ice Age opening with $46.3 million way back in 2002, without the 3D markup advantage. Some speculate that because ‘Brave‘ and ‘Madagascar 3‘ were still out in theaters, it did create some competition for this film.
No other films opened for wide release this weekend, and thus the top films at the box office consist of films that have already been out in theatres for a while. Savages, which had a week opening last weekend, dropped 45% this weekend. I’m surprised this film didn’t do better because it has so many good people in it! I’ll have to wait for it to come out on iTunes to see what the non-fuss is about.
Did you see any films this weekend? Matt saw Ice Age 4 and you can read what he thought of the film here. Otherwise, check out how the rest of the films did this weekend and where how they placed below.
This weekend, ‘The Amazing Spiderman‘ topped the box office charts with an estimated $65 million. After six days since opening, that has put the film at about $140 million. Pretty impressive for a reboot in my opinion! The film centers on the romance between Andrew Garfield‘s character Peter Parker and college student Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone. Did any of you watch it? What’d you think?
Opening this weekend was the star-studded crime-thriller ‘Savages‘. The film came in fourth this weekend with an estimated $16.1 million. The cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Blake Lively, Salma Hayek, John Travolta, Aaron Johnson, Uma Thurman, and more.
‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me‘ also opened in theatres this week and has brought in an estimated $10 million so far. Tyrell saw it the other day and quite liked it. Did any of you watch it or any other films this weekend? Check out the top 10 movies in theaters this weekend and how much they each brought in below.
Memorial Day long weekend is unofficially the beginning for summer movies. With that in mind, I thought today would be ideal to share the movies I’m looking forward to seeing the most this summer. While “The Avengers” and “The Hunger Games” got an early start on Hollywood’s most lucrative season, there are still plenty of films left to check out.
Typically this time of year, big budget action movies and superhero flicks dominate the multiplexes, with a few comedies thrown in. This year is no different. Most of the ones I’m itching to see fall in those categories with a couple musicals included for good measure. I am gay after all. I’d lose my gay card if I wasn’t excited for a song and dance flick starring Whitney Houston.
However, with that said, there are always one or two surprises that manage to win audiences over even without a huge marketing campaign behind them. Remember “The Help” last year? Not only did it become a surprise blockbuster but also became a major force come awards season. I highly doubt any of my choices will be Oscar contenders (special effects and sound maybe), but I’m sure they’ll do boffo dollars. Find out which ten flicks have me revved up to hit the theaters this summer below.
Summer blockbuster movie season is beginning to fall upon us and one of the films I cannot wait for is The Amazing Spider-Man starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. I was a big fan of the original trilogy so I cannot wait to see what is being done with this newest adaptation of the comic book gem.
A new Japanese trailer has surfaced online for the film featuring some new footage not yet seen from the previous US released trailers. Most importantly, we get a glimpse of this film’s villain, The Lizard and more of the film’s plot line and synopsis.
The film hits theaters on July 3. Check out the new trailer below.
Some feel that it’s too soon for a Spider-Man reboot as the third instalment of the previous trilogy was released only five years ago. However, this July, The Amazing Spider-Man hits theaters starring Andrew Garfield as the hero in red and blue. The premise this time around is to tell the untold story of Peter Parker and his parents’ disappearance. The synopsis via IMDb explains:
Peter Parker finds a clue that might help him understand why his parents disappeared when he was young. His path puts him on a collision course with Dr. Curt Connors, his father’s former partner.
In the newly released trailer for the upcoming blockbuster, we get our first look at the relationship between Peter and Gwen Stacy played by Emma Stone. Gwen just happens to be the daughter of the captain of the police force who is out to arrest Spider-Man. That has to make for a tense relationship.
Another prominent story line featured in the trailer is that of Peter and Dr. Curt Connors who we learn is actually The Lizard (played by Rhys Ifans). I am also looking forward to getting to know Peter’s aunt and uncle played by Martin Sheen and the amazing Sally Field. Regardless of it’s too soon for a reboot or not, I am excited to see this flick. Now check out the new trailer below.
Next summer, movie goers will be treated to two big and epic blockbuster action movies. The first is The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3 starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. The second is the highly anticipated Dark Knight Rises on July 20 with Christian Bale, Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway. Both films have released new posters and they are pretty amazing.
In the previous three Spidey flicks, they’ve been more on the action-comedy-romance side. The new poster reveals that the film could take a little bit of a darker twist: a very welcome change. As we’ve seen in the trailers, the film will really take a focus on Peter being an orphan and that whole tragedy. It’s all sounding a little bit Nolan-esque don’t you think?
The latest poster for Dark Knight Rises is nothing less than what I expect from this franchise. The poster leads us to believe that an ultimate altercation goes down between Bane and Batman with Bruce Wayne being left worse for the wear. With the rain and the cracked mask, I think this movie is going to let us have it. Check out both posters below.
Surprise, surprise. I’m actually on time with this week’s Man Crush. After last week’s trio crush, I had every intention of not picking another guy to feature from a new upcoming fall show. That is until I saw twunky (beefy older twink) Chris Zylka. He recently did a photo shoot for V Man Magazine that made me take notice. Since, technically the new Fall television season doesn’t start til next week, I can squeeze one more hottie as part of my Fall preview.
The 26-year-old will appearing on a recurring basis on the CW’s “The Secret Circle“. Prior to this, he’s appeared on several shows including “Cougar Town”, “Hannah Montana” and “90210” which marked his debut. Zylka grew up in Ohio where he attended the University of Toledo. You might be wondering what his ethnic heritage is (he’s Russian) considering his unique last name. Funny enough, he was born Chris Settlemire but took on his mother’s maiden name. In his spare time, Chris loves to play the guitar, paint, play football, basketball, baseball, go to the gym, walk his dog and tweet. I love how the latter is now a hobby. LOL.
Besides appearing on television, he’s appeared on the big screen as well. Apparently he has a thing for for 3D animal horror movies. Chris appeared in both “Shark Night 3D” and “Piranha 3DD“. Thankfully, he won’t be making a hat trick of those movies. He’s set to appear as Flash Thompson in the upcoming superhero reboot, “The Amazing Spider-Man” starring Andrew Garfield. If you’re looking to see him in some homo-erotic situations, check out “Kaboom“- a science fiction story centered on the sexual awakening of a group of college students. He plays Thor who is often shirtless and tries to self gratify himself. Now that you’ve gotten to know him, check out a few visuals of him below.
