While I admit the past two Wednesday night’s have been nice not having to transcribe the best quotes, I definitely missed my weekly fix of biting insults and musical numbers. Thankfully, the World Series are done and over (congrats Yankees) and we can finally get back to normally scheduled programming. I’m not sure if it was the absence that made the heart grow fonder, that made me think this was best episode of the year or if it was just THAT GOOD- I think the latter.
I don’t want to seem over-emotional, but this episode had me misty in a couple of spots and almost pushed me to turn on the full waterworks during one particular scene. This episode, titled “Wheels” had it all- great musical numbers, touching moments, hilarious insults, and lots of Kurt & Puck. The writing was so spot on, it made everyone extremely likable- I was even warming up to Quinn.
This episode was all about the warm fuzzies. Besides the fact the episode revolved around Artie’s handicapable needs and his crush on Tina, there were three other distinct heart-warming moments that got to me. The first was between Quinn and Puck’s scene where they attempted to make cupcakes. For weeks, I found Quinn’s character the most annoying and least developed. Tonight that sort of changed for me. At one point when she finally let her guard down, you could see she really likes Puck and wants to be with him. At first I was all about Puck and Rachel becoming a couple but now I find myself on Team Quinuck.
It’s 4:00am and I just finished watching this week’s episode of Glee. Currently, Brian and I are in the middle of a move, so I been busy balancing the move to the new place and other obligations including the site. Keeping that in mind, this week’s post will be relatively brief- papa needs to go to sleep. The episode was all about making choices and settling. Glee Club vs Football, Coach Tanaka vs Will Schuester, Quinn vs Rachel, Finn vs Puck, Big Gulp vs Super Big Gulp. This week had some great comedic moments and as usual, great musical numbers. It all left me thirsting for more. Where’s a grape Big Gulp when you need one.
Here is a quick summary of my favorite moments of the night:
Kurt during “Bust A Move”: Though our resident gay wasn’t singing during this number. Every time he was within eye’s shot of the camera, he had me laughing out loud. Whether it was his facial reaction when Will was bumpin’ on him or when the camera panned on him judging the rest of Glee Club, Kurt stole the show. But by far the best moment was when he was shaking a tambourine (not his ass but a real one) while going down. BRILL. On a side note, I kick ass whenever I rap this song on Xbox’s LIPS. Well that is whenever I don’t compete against Landon.
After last week’s Fan-Sue-Tastic episode, I was a little worried that my beloved Sue Sylvester would be placed on the back burner so that the producers could focus on another character this week. TGIF, I was wrong- Coach Sue was in prime form. We were instantly treated to a visually hilarious slo-motioned argument between the two co-heads, Sue & Will, of the Glee Club. I could’ve watched an entire hour of their facial reactions alone. The segment was funny enough even if you took out the voice overs.
The biggest complaint I received about last week’s episode from Homorazzi.com readers was that there wasn’t enough musical numbers. Boy, did the producers go into overdrive this week. They were popping them out faster than Kate Gosselin pops out babies from her va-jay-jay. But does more mean better? Hmmm, I think not. In my opinion, I’d rather have two solid performances like last week’s mashups than the sub-par numbers we were given this week.
Besides the Avril Lavigne “Keep Holding On” segment, all the others barely made a blip on my radar. On paper, the Jordin Sparks “No Air” piece should’ve blown me out of the water, but even that, was tepid at best. Don’t get me wrong, the singing was great with Rachel’s spot-on vocals, but everything else about it was less than magical. The other three numbers were even bigger wastes of time- especially Quinn’s disastrous “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” efforts. Eeks. I’ll just leave it at that. Such a shame though considering the great production work done for that piece- the choreography and stage set-up were amazeballs. Okay…. slight retraction. I kinda liked the Nelly number but only because I LOVE THAT SONG. I bet you the Homorazzi cast (drunk of course) could do a better job. Please don’t call me out on this :).
Can we just start calling this the “Sue Sylvester Show”? Seriously, every other word coming out of her mouth was pure magic. When Patrick, Adam, Brian and I were in L.A in May, we had a chance to talk with Jane Lynch at a red carpet event. It’s a good thing, I hadn’t fallen in love with Sue Sylvester at that point otherwise I might’ve been kicked off the red carpet for jumping the rope to declare my undying adoration for her.
Speaking of Glee cast members, this past weekend Patrick, Brian and I had a wicked opportunity to talk with Patrick Gallagher who plays Coach Ken Tanaka on the show. During the VIFF red carpet event, I screamed out “COACH TANAKA! COACH! (huge pause) TANAKA!”. I guess my screaming paid off because he came over. I chatted with him for a few and then shuffled him off to answer Patrick’s questions. After his interview was over, he went of out his way to thank me for the support. LMAO. I guess Patrick’s gushing about my Glee recaps got his attention. Check out Patty’s quick interview with him below.

Fresh of her Emmy win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series- the now canceled yet brilliant “Pushing Daisies”, Kristin Chenoweth dropped by McKinley High to show off her vocal chops. The entire episode focused on trying to find a “star” to fill the void left after Rachel quit to star in Sandy’s musical. Cue, Kristin Chenoweth who played over-the-hill-washed-up-high-school-drop-out April Rhodes. During his high school days, Will was in awe of April’s singing talent and had a school boy crush on her. Since April was only three credits shy of graduation, she was eligible to re-enter high school and subsequently join the Glee Club- making them a threat at the upcoming Regionals.
Proving she deserved her Emmy, Chenoweth was hilarious in every scene she was in. Not only does she have a great classically trained coloratura soprano, but she also has great comedic timing. For all those who have never heard of Chenoweth, she was the original Glinda in the Broadway musical hit, Wicked. I’m so glad after last week’s episode which focused more on paying homage to Beyonce’s dancing, the musical numbers came back in a huge way. The episode, titled “The Rhodes Not Taken” featured no less than six numbers: “Don’t Stop Believing”, “Maybe This Time”, “Alone”, “Cabaret”, “Last Name” and “Somebody to Love”. My personal favorites of the night had to be “Maybe This Time” from Cabaret and Carrie Underwood’s “Last Name”. Normally, I’d be all over “Somebody to Love” but it didn’t live up to my expectations. Have you seen Anne Hathaway’s version from “Ella Enchanted”? If you have, you’d agree with me too.

How fitting the week I chose to come out, Kurt tries to steal my thunder and come out as well but with much bigger fanfare. Trust me, I also did a big ‘ol dance routine during my emotional tête-à-tête with my parents… except mine was the “Macarena”. On a side note, imagine how much ka-ching B gets whenever someone plays “Single Ladies” or mimics her dance- talk about money falling from the sky.
I love how in each episode of Glee, the huge ensemble cast take turns being the main focus. Last week it was Mercedes’ time to shine while this week it was all about Kurt and- let’s face it- BEYONCE. She was as integral to this episode as any of the actors. When I first hit play on my PVR, I initially thought I was watching another random “Single Ladies” parody but then quickly realized it was just the beginning of the episode. I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m kinda tired of all the parodies. As an aside, I’m currently in love with that random blond girl who accompanies Kurt with the routine. She first caught my eye as one of Quinn’s backup Cheerio’s dancer during their Glee Club audition. I just love how she just gives errrrr all she’s got. Back to Kurt and this fantastical episode. Though we’ve only seen four episodes so far, episode four which was aptly called “Preggers” was quite different from the rest. It had far fewer singing numbers, more dancing ones and focused more on story telling than spewing out hilarious one-liners.
