With March coming to an end over the upcoming Easter long weekend (while Adam and I are letting loose at White Party in Palm Springs), it’s time to take a look at what movies are coming out in April and which ones I personally recommend seeing.
Some of the films you are likely aware of that come out in April that I didn’t include in my list include Scary Movie 5, the release of Jurassic Park 3D, At Any Price (starring Zac Efron) and To The Wonder (starring Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, and Rachel McAdams). They are all films that I probably will watch at some point, but in narrowing down my list to five, there are others I want to see more.
I’ve listed these five movies below, all from different genres and release dates in April and I’ve also included the trailers and film details so you can see which ones you may want to consider checking out. Pretty much all of them feature some hot eye candy and two of the films star the always amazing, Susan Surandon.
The first trailer for a new action film called Snitch has just been released, telling a story that is inspired by true events that were actually chronicled in a PBS Frontline documentary.
The film stars Dwayne Johnson as a devoted father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of a drug distribution crime and is looking at a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years and up to 30 years in total. Desperate to save his son and do whatever it takes to do so, he makes a deal with the U.S. Attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel on a very dangerous mission. Needless to say, in doing so he risks everything in the process.
Every since “The Rock” started going by Dwayne Johnson, his movie roles have gotten better and now he’s starring in a pretty serious role alongside Susan Surandon. Nice job! The film hits theatres on February 22, 2013. Check out the trailer below.
The trailer for a film called Cloud Atlas has just debuted the theatrical trailer and we’ve got your first look att eh star-studded film. The movie explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. It has action, mystery and romance throughout the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future.
The film is based on the 2004 novel by David Mitchell and follows six storylines that span across different eras. The film cost over $100 million, making it the most expensive independently financed film ever.
The stellar cast includes: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Zhou Xun, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant. The film opens in theaters on October 26. Check out the trailer below.
As much as I love a good comedy, drama, or action movie, I far prefer a good thriller and this one looks like a goodie. The film is called The Company You Keep and is directed by Robert Redford who is also one of the main characters. It’s the first time he’s showing his on and off screen talents in a movie since back in 2007 with Lions For Lambs.
The thriller centers on a former Weather Underground activist (Robert Redford) who goes on the run from a journalist (Shia Labeouf) who has discovered his identity. This all happens after Sharon Solarz (Susan Surandon) is arrested 30 years after a murder she committed as part of the activist group. This is probably one of the most high caliber ensemble casts for a thriller I’ve ever seen, with so many Academy Award winners and/or nominees making up the group.
Other cast members not yet mentioned include Julie Christie, Sam Elliott, Terrance Howard, Anna Kendrick, Stanley Tucci, Nick Nolte, Chris Cooper, Brit Marling, Brendan Gleeson, and more.
The upcoming film “The Big Wedding” definitely boasts an epic ensemble cast. But, as has been proven before, having heavy hitters in your film doesn’t necessarily mean a big hit at the box office. Will the case be different for this romantic comedy? The film stars Robert De Niro, Susan Surandon, Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace and Katherine Heigl just to name a few. So what is this film all about?
Directed Justin Zackham, the writer and director of “The Bucket List, the film centers around Don (De Niro) and Ellie (Keaton), a long divorced couple who are forced to pretend they are still happily married for their son’s wedding. Amongst their friends and family, the film takes many comedic twists and turns as the hoax continues throughout the day. The film is set for release on my birthday (yipee) on October 26. Check out the newly released trailer below.
A thriller starring Richard Gere and Susan Surandon? Count me in! They were great together in 2004′s ‘Shall We Dance?‘. The movie trailer for this upcoming film called ‘Arbitrage‘ has just debuted and you should definitely check it out below. The Nicholas Jarecki-directed film is about love, loyalty and money.
At the beginning of the film, it’s the eve of New York hedge-fund magnate Robert Miller’s (Gere) 60th birthday. He’s the poster boy for success in business and family and everything seems to be going perfectly. Behind the scenes, this is not the case. Miller is in over his head trying to complete the sale of his trading empire to a major bank before the depths of his fraud are revealed. To add to hiding this from his wife Ellen (Sarandon) and daughter and heir-apparent Brooke (Brit Marling), he’s also trying to keep an affair with Julie Cote (Laetitia Casta) under wraps.
When things seem to be as stressful as they could get, a horrific accident occurs that forces Miller to juggle family, business, and crime with the help of Jimmy Grant (Nate Parker), a guy from Miller’s past. An NYPD officer is suspicious about Miller and is determined to uncover the truth. Is Miller powerful enough to get away with it all? The film comes out September 14. Check out the trailer below.
The trailer for a new film called ‘Frank & Robot’ just came out and you should definitely check it out. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I hit the play button on this trailer, but I I think it’s going to be a great film! There’s a really good cast as well.
Set in the near future, an ex-jewel thief (Frank Langella) receives a gift from his son (James Marsden). The gift is a robot butler (a real life Siri, if you will) programmed to look after him and make his life healthier and more enjoyable. After getting to know each other and getting used to each other, soon the two companions try their luck as a heist team. Yup, man and machine working together on a heist.
The film also stars Susan Surandon and Liv Tyler among several other familiar faces. The film hits theatres on September 19. Check out the trailer below!
The trailer for a film called ‘Jeff Who Lives At Home‘ has just been released, starring some big names. The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, but will hit mainstream theatres later this spring. It looks really good and the cast is amazing.
Here’s the premise from his film: Dispatched from his basement room on an errand for his mother (Susan Surandon), 30-year-old slacker Jeff (Jason Segal) might discover his destiny (finally) when he spends the day with his brother (Ed Helms) as he tracks his possibly adulterous wife (Judy Greer). The brothers reluctantly try to help each other out and find their way, while their mother tries to find her own.
The storyline follows an “everything happens for a reason” motto and it looks like something everyone will be able to relate to in one way or another. The film hits theatres on March 16. Check out the trailer below!
