The CW Renews… Everything

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Whatever they’re drinking over at The CW, please share. The network executives were in fantastic moods. They renewed every program currently airing.

With 11 one-hour shows and only ten hours to fill on their schedule, clearly there’s going to be some tag team action going on. Plus, there’s all the new shows, which hopefully includes Riverdale, to cram in.

“The CW has become home to some of the most critically-acclaimed shows on broadcast television, with a wide array of fantastic scripted series across the week, ranging from musical comedy, to superhero action, to gritty sci-fi dramas,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz. “As we continue to further our strategy of more year-round original programming, picking up these 11 series for the 2016–2017 season puts us in a great position of having proven, high-quality shows to launch in the fall as well as midseason and summer of 2017.”

Most likely, not every renewed show is getting a full season order. Episode counts will be announced at a later date. Find out below which CW show made history.

Arguably, The CW has some of the hottest guys on network television. Hell, that’s why I tune in most of the time 😉 Without a doubt, Stephen Amell from Arrow is at the top of that list. With his chiseled body and handsome face, this man just oozes sex appeal. Between you and me, the Oliver McQueen actor is as stunning in person. I often bump into him at the gym. Sufficed to say, I always try to get the treadmill with the best view.

As the old saying goes, it takes one to know one. The 31-year-old was put through a test from the folks over at TV Guide. His task was to identify which ripped set of abs belonged to a CW stud. Not surprisingly, dude earned a perfect score. Someone’s apparently been studying his fellow network colleagues’ assets. Watch the video below. After that, check out how I ranked the five guys. It’s pretty obvious who my No. 1 pick is. Be sure to comment on whether you agree or disagree with my rankings.

The CW Renews Three Shows For Next Season

In: Donovan, TV Shows

If you’re an avid Nielsen Ratings follower, The CW’s decision to renew these three shows shouldn’t be shocking. The only thing remotely surprising is that the network did it this early. The upfronts where networks reveal their 2013-14 schedules are still a few months away. That said, the news is always nice to hear especially to fans and the cast and crew of each show. Another year of regular pay cheques is always a good thing.

There’s no denying Arrow is the season’s breakout hit on The CW if not on all the broadcast networks. It arrived with a bang with 4.3 million viewers and consistently brings in viewers weekly. It’s the network’s most-watched show. Meanwhile, The Vampire Diaries is tops when it comes to the target demographic of adults and women between the ages of 18-34. The supernatural series will return for a fifth season.

The CW Promises Less Reruns

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Hallelujah. The CW is promising less reruns for its 2012-2012 season. Traditionally, the network has long periods of repeat programming, especially during the early part of the calendar year. These days most dramas receive a 22-episode order, but The CW is changing that. As part of new CW president Mark Pedowitz’s intent to shorten rerun periods, he’s upping the episode order for four of its shows.

Which shows are getting a beefed up season? According to Deadline, “Gossip Girl” and “90210” will each be receiving two extra episodes each, bringing their season total to 24. “Supernatural” and “Nikita” will be the recipient of one episode each, upping their season to 23 episodes. Hell yeah. I watch all but one of those shows, so I’m excited about the news. I’d rather have a crappy episode than no episode at all.

Which Shows Have The Highest Ad Rates?

In: Donovan, TV Shows

By gathering data from media buying firms, Advertising Age’s annual survey reveals which primetime TV shows have the priciest asking price for commercials. Even though American Idol’s ratings dropped last year, and the upcoming season is without Simon Cowell, the Fox show is still the most expensive show to book commercial spots.

According to estimates, Idol is commanding $467,000 for a 30-second spot which is $50,000 more than the next expensive show. NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” came in second with $415,000, while Idol’s results show ranked third with its $400,000 asking price.

Rounding out the top ten are “Glee” ($272,694), “Family Guy” ($259,289), “The Simpsons” ($253,170), “House” ($226,180), “Grey’s Anatomy” ($222,113), “The Office” ($213,617), and “Desperate Housewives” ($210,064). Both “Family Guy” and “The Simpsons” ranked high because both shows draw huge numbers of young men whom advertisers love. It’s clear that Fox was a clear winner in the survey. The network had five out of the six most expensive shows.

Normally a show with two incredibly handsome actors would be a shoe-in for a spot on my TV viewing schedule, but for some reason or another, I’ve never watched an episode of The CW’s “Supernatural“. Maybe it’s the Friday night timeslot? Whatever it is, I’m a “Supernatural” virgin. That doesn’t mean, however, I can’t appreciate the juicy man candy on the show.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki play brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester, who hunt demons and other figures of the paranormal. The show is its six and rumored final season. When surfing the web for pictures for this post, I was like a dog heat looking at the copious amounts of sexy images of two actors. See the fruits of my labor below.

Take a look at some basic stats of the two, before we dissect which Winchester brother is hotter?

Lights, Camera, Action! Vancouver (and Canada in general) used to get a lot of big Hollywood productions due to the financial incentive of filming up here. Then, all that went away when it became…not so attractive. Now, it appears that things are gearing up once again with numerous productions currently filming as we speak…as in literally today. Here is a list of 6 big productions, either movie or television that can be found “out & about” in Vancouver alone, right now.

The Big Year

This star studded movie is currently filming in Vancouver and based on the ensemble and premise, it sounds like it’ll be quite a successful comedy – something along the lines of “Best in Show”. The movie is about three avid bird watchers that are competing to spot the rarest birds in North America at a very prestigious annual event. Love it! Main characters include: Anjelica Huston (Witches), Jim Parsons (Big Bang Theory), Jack Black (Tropic Thunder), Rashida Jones (Parks & Recreation), Owen Wilson (You, Me, and Dupree, Starsky & Hutch), Steve Martin (Pink Panther, Big Mama)

Don’t ask me why in the world I thought anyone would particularly care to see or hear about this Rococo work from 1717… but I think the recent TV episode of “Supernatural” and its pagan roundup of old timey gods got me into the nostalgic mood for all things nerdy and high school for me and this painting is definitely one of them. Taking Art History AP in Grade 12 (to be honest, I think I just wanted to be Shannon Doherty from “Charmed” and appraise art all day and fight monsters at night 😉 I learned about the Rococo period halfway through the course. It was a period around the early 1700s in France when paintings were pink, bright and opulent. So why the hell do I like it?

Well, as likely the most steadfast atheist of the cast, I was interested to see this work- entitled “Pilgrimage on the Isle of Cythera” by Antoine Watteau – because it has such an afterlife feel to it… Actually, the characters are walking off the Cythera: the land where Venus, the god of love, was suppose to be born. Regardless, the colors and sheer bliss of it for some reason spoke to me when I saw it in my textbook, and one day when back in France I will have to make my way to the Sully where it’s being kept. Nerd of a post I know… maybe I’ll show you some of my darker painted favs if Donovan and Patrick don’t kick me off the site for this one.
