Tina Fey Kicks Off Saturday Night Live Season 39

In: Donovan, TV Shows

With a rebuilding year ahead of them, Lorne Michaels wisely tapped Tina Fey to usher in this new era. Six new cast members were added to replace departing favorites. For her opening monologue, Fey not only introduced them but also forced them to dance backup for her. Was anyone else distracted by all the bulges as the guys were thrusting in their gold lamé short shorts? In addition to kicking off the show in grand style, Fey delivered huge in several skits including the airport one and the fantastic promo for HBO’s Girls where she joins the cast as an older Albanian chick.

Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul was the surprise MVP of the night. He popped up in three segments including a hilarious faux meth commercial. Out of the newbies, Kyle Mooney, Mike O’Brien and Noel Wells impressed the most. The latter does a killer Lena Dunham impression.

On the flip side, returning cast member Cecily Strong looked a bit nervous in her new position fronting Weekend Update. Hopefully, she settles in her new gig in the coming weeks. Check out all the skits below and be sure to weigh in on which newbie you’re most excited about. Be forewarned, you’ll need a US IP to watch the clips.

Meet The Newbies Joining Saturday Night Live

In: Donovan, TV Shows

With Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis leaving Saturday Night Live last season and Seth Meyer’s planned midseason exit, pressure was on Lorne Michaels to recruit talented newbies to fill the void.

Entering its 39th season, the show is going through one of the biggest cast overhauls in the sketch comedy’s history. Five new faces are being added to the roster this year. The most new talent since 1995 when Will Ferrell made his debut, along with Cheri Oteri and Darrell Hammond to name a few. Get to know the quintet of new players hoping to make you laugh this season below. One of them (Beck Bennett) is a certifiable hottie. Wouldn’t mind spending some early Sunday morning time with him 😉

Watch Saturday Night Live Actors Have Laughing Fits

In: Donovan, TV Shows

When Saturday Night Live returns for its 39th season, three longtime actors (Fred Armisen, Bill Hader & Jason Sudeikis) will no longer be part of the cast. Insert sad face. As they say, the show must go on. Just as the case when the unexpected happens during a live show.

Typically, the show’s strong arsenal of repertory players have no problem keeping in character no matter what comes their way. But every now and then, they fall prey to laughing fits. Just like the common cold, it then becomes extremely contagious and pretty soon everyone’s trying not to bust out laughing.

In a new supercut, everyone from Phil Hartman to Jimmy Fallon, Will Ferrell to Bill Hader’s fit of laughter is documented. Check out the hilarious clip below.

Kristin Wiig returns to her former stomping grounds this weekend. The 39-year-old comedienne joins Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Eddie Murphy as former SNL alums who hosted the show the first year after leaving. Joining her as musical guest on Saturday Night Live is Vampire Weekend.

NBC just released a whackload of promos featuring Wiig hyping her stint as guest host. Her former co-star Fred Armisen also appears in the series of videos. From teasing which of her popular characters she’ll resurrect to getting slapped by Armisen, Kristen is up for anything to promote her episode. She even jokes that perhaps an Olivia Newton-John cameo might happen. Highly doubt it, but this hardcore Grease fan can always hope. Check out all the promos below.

Kristen Wiig Returns To Saturday Night Live

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Kristin Wiig is returning to her former stomping grounds, albeit in a hosting capacity, but at least it’s something. The 39-year-old comedienne will appear on the next-to-last episode of this season of Saturday Night Live airing May 11. Wiig joins Chevy Chase, Bill Murray and Eddie Murphy as former SNL alums who hosted the show the first year after leaving.

This isn’t the first time Wiig pops up on SNL since her departure last season. Back in December, she made a cameo in the Martin Short-hosted episode. I wonder if Kristen will reprise Gilly, Dooneese Maharelle or any of her other popular characters. Vampire Weekend will be the musical guest.

It’s a big a bit week for Justin Timberlake, having just hosted a pretty epic episode of SNL over the weekend and just opened up his new album to be streamed for free for a limited time on iTunes. Last night he was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon for an interview and also to perform some music from his new album. JT is on Fallon’s show all week so there will be more good stuff to come.

Both guys are under the weather at the moment and we learn it’s because they made out over the weekend LOL. The first topic of discussion is the SNL episode and what it was like for JT. After Fallon starts making fun of how JT sings, JT joins in and makes fun of himself even better. LOL. Then the tables are turned and JT makes fun of Fallon by doing impressions of him and they’re actually pretty funny.
