My Top 10 Music Videos Of 2012

In: Music, Nic, Videos

Just short and sweet, I find it a fine line between artistic integrity, videos that were on repeat at friends’ (Donovan‘s) house, and things that just made me happy despite popular concensus when considering what makes my list. But covering and considering all those bases, here we go. Agree or disagree, here were some great visuals to great songs this year that made it 2012 for me, and maybe you, but mostly me.

10. Psy – ‘Gangnam Style’

Love it or hate it, over a billion hits on YouTube can’t be wrong. We may never want to hear it again, but it will definitely, always remind me of 2012. Two words: Invisible. Horse.

Homos around the world are drowning in their tears over this news I’m sure. I have to say, I was pretty shocked when I read it myself but it’s true. Wednesday night in London, our beloved Scissor Sisters announced that they would be taking an indefinite hiatus. During their second of two shows in a North London venue to close out their UK tour, Ana Matronic addressed the crowd first saying the UK fans were “the ones who got us first – and always get us best.” Following the lovefest, frontman Jake Shears dropped the ultimate bomb saying, “this will be the last time we will play in London for quite some time.” I can only imagine the outcry from the crowd of fans.

Following the show, the group confirmed that news with Gigwise.com.

Scissor Sisters Have A Kiki With Wendy Williams

In: Donovan, Music, TV Shows

How I missed this the other day is beyond me. I’m such a bad gay. In my defense, I was so curious about Katie Couric, Jeff Probst and Anderson Cooper’s premieres, I completely forgot about the sassy Wendy Williams. Shame on me, considering I quote this woman all the time. And I’m not talking about her signature “How you doin‘?” catchphrase either, but rather her sage advice of how you get them, is how you lose them mantra, referring to all you homewreckers out there. Trust when I say, I’ve doled out those words to a few of my whorey friends ;)

On the fourth season premiere of The Wendy Williams Show, the former radio personality invited Scissor Sisters to perform their summer hit, “Let’s Have A Kiki.” I absolutely love this song and became addicted during a trip to Miami with Nic and Brian in the Spring. Williams revealed she desperately wanted the group on the premiere because they were her kind of people. LOL.

Given that Wendy is now taping in a new and bigger high-def studio located in the heart of Chelsea, it only makes sense to have the super hot openly-gay Jake Shears break their studio cherry. Also on hand for the premiere was Maksim Chmerkovskiy. What I wouldn’t give to be in a human sandwich with Maks and his hot younger brother Val. SIGH. Check out Wendy get her Kiki on and strut with Maks after the jump.

Well apparently September 4th was the day of the KAI KAI! If you don’t know what a Kai Kai is…well we’ll get to that in a second.

After the hugely successful gay anthem of 2012 “Let’s Have a Kiki” was released, everyone and their dog has done a cover or a parody of it. I myself am not really one for parodies but after I heard/saw these two I starting to rethink my position on them. The first is done by parody legend Lady Bunny who stars on RuPaul’s Drag U and is the founder of Wigstock.

The second, and my favorite parody probably ever features Drag Race star Willam and one of my absolutely all time FAVORITE queens Rhea Litre. Seriously, if you don’t know Rhea you need to get into it #aweyeah. I have no idea WHY she hasn’t cast on Drag Race yet but this bitch is TALENTED! The pairing of Willam and Rhea is pretty genius I must say.  Also featured in this video is Chi Chi Larue and I BELIEVE Hector Xtravaganza…I’m almost 100% certain. Its incredible and definitely my favourite parody of the song.

BUT WHAT IS A KAI KAI you’re still asking…well I’ll let the videos show you. ENJOY!

I’d certainly consider “Let’s Have A Kiki” by Scissor Sisters to be one of the summer songs of sorts this year and I love how the it keeps getting reinvented. From the epic montage video video to the instructional music video to all of the awesome remixes.

The latest goodie is a mashup with Madonna and her hit song “Vogue“. Coincidentally, it was only a few days ago that I wrote about the boy who, back in 1992, performed to “Vogue” at his Bar Mitzvah. So awesome. Today, I saw this video posted on Facebook and I just had to share it with you. The way these two tracks blend together is “marvelous”.

So… “I hope you’re up girl….Cuz I know exactly what we need…” A Vogue/Kiki Mashup, of course! Enjoy!

If you have caught the Scissor Sisters during their current tour, you’ve probably become obsessed with the choreography behind their fabulous track, “Let’s Have a Kiki.” Featuring Ana Matronic and two fabulous backup singers, she lets the crowd have it with her cell phone banter before breaking into the incredible hook. Flanked by her two backup singers, Ana busts out into some simple, but effective choreo that has us all turned out. Wanna learn these sexy moves? Now you can.

In the new instructional video, Ana, backup dancers and Jake Shears show us all how it’s done while the lyrics bounce across the bottom of the screen like a karaoke machine. Now you can dance AND sing along. Be forewarned, you may not be able to peer away from Jake Shears’ crotch which is very highlighted by his football-style pants. Grab your heels, lock the doors and learn “how to kiki” below.

Let’s Have A Kiki” has caught on as one of the catchiest and most fun songs of the summer in my opinion. Now, with four hot remixes of the Scissor Sisters track to share with you, you have even more reason to “lock the doors, fire up the smoke machine, and put on your heels”.

There are four very different remixes below done by four different DJs that include: Danny Verde, Almighty, 2 Bears and OLUGBENGA. Of the four, the Almighty remix is definitely my favorite, followed by the Danny Verde one. For something more chill and low key, the Olugbenga is great. Listen to all four below and let me know which one you like best.

It’s Thursday, which means the weekend is almost here and you can get your Kiki on! “Let’s Have A Kiki” is on the Scissor Sisters ‘Magic Hour‘ album which is available in stores or on iTunes.

This past Friday, Donovan and I drove down to Seattle for Pride and while he took control of the wheel, I took control of the music. On my playlist was “Let’s Have A Kiki” by Scissor Sisters, which he hadn’t heard before. Kiki found it’s way into many conversations from that point forward. In case you don’t know what a “kiki” is (I’m a little unsure myself as different people have told me different things), you can check out what the Urban Dictionary says.

Anyway, I came across this amazing video edit by Videodrome Discothèque for the catchy song and just had to share it with you. Showing clips from various music videos, tv shows, and movies, the video is a perfect compliment to the randomness of the song. With clips from Cher, John Travolta, RuPaul, Bill Cosby, Bea Arthur, many Drag Race contestants, and MANY more. I can’t even explain it well enough to do it justice. It’s just entertaining.

As the lyrics go, “Oh, what a wonderful kiki! This kiki is marvelous!Lock the doors, and watch this “Let’s Have A Kiki” video below.
