Based on the fans of Swedish singer Ji Nilsson, the answer is ‘yes.’ To be fair, if any plagiarism took place, that would fall on Ryan Tedder and Benny Bianco’s shoulders since they produced Gwen Stefani’s “Baby Don’t Lie.”

Nilsson’s devoted following quickly pointed out the similarities between Stefani’s comeback single and Ji’s “Heartbreakfree.” To be fair, the production on both do sound quite alike.

The Scandinavian singer is taking everything in stride and not being bitter about it. At least not on Twitter she isn’t. She retweeted a supporter’s comment about imitation being the greatest form of flattery. She also sent a series of Tweets declaring her love for several No Doubt tracks before adding, “Thanks for all the <3 and support! I’m super happy that a lot of people are discovering my music!” Check out both videos below and see if Nilsson’s fans’ allegations have any merits.

Maroon 5 Goes Backwards For ‘Maps’ Music Video

In: Donovan, Music

Director Peter Berg takes a page from Christopher Nolan’s Memento for Maroon 5′s new music video. “Maps” follows a backwards narrative format, retracing Adam Levine’s disastrous and eventful night. It’s not til the end when we learn why Levine’s love interest is in critical condition at the hospital.

“It’s also kind of not giving up on things too. People go through a lot of things and get stepped on and step on others and we all make mistakes … It’s kind of more about not giving up on something, even though maybe you should.” – Adam Levine

If you love Maroon 5′s previous work, you’ll love “Maps.” The band doesn’t stray too far from the formula that’s worked for them previously. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix right? Once again, they’ve enlisted Ryan Tedder to create a pop radio-friendly masterpiece. It’s the lead single off V, out September 2, which finds the band uniting with Gwen Stefani along with producers Max Martin, Benny Blanco, Shellback and Sam Martin. Check out the newly-released “Maps” video below.

Ryan Tedder Breaks Down Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights

In: Donovan, Music

I feel the wrath of Lovatics coming soon. Dare I say it, but I much prefer this leaked demo version than the one released by Demi Lovato.

Ryan Tedder co-wrote Lovato’s recent hit, “Neon Lights.” As with most singer-songwriters, the OneRepublic frontman recorded a demo while writing the track. For the most part, it sounds like the official version released by Lovato except for one glaring difference. Originally, it was titled “Broken Lights” before going with a more colorful title. Check out Tedder’s demo below.

I have yet to see any winner from American Idol, The X Factor or The Voice sing their coronation song without getting choked up. To be honest, I’d much prefer for them to cry-sing like Kelly Clarkson did during “A Moment Like This” than to sing it perfectly. With that in mind, it’s not fair to judge the winner’s single until the studio version surfaces. Especially in last night’s case, when NBC cut off Tessanne Chin’s victory lap short.

Even though Ryan Tedder told Carson Daly he didn’t want to pen “the ‘standing-on-a-mountaintop, I’ve-won-everything’ kind of song,” he sorta did. “I wanted to do a real song about love and heartbreak,” he added. While not awful like American Idol’sNo Boundaries,” it’s no winner like Phillip Phillips’ epic winning single, “Home.”

Tumbling Down” falls in the middle of the pack among coronation songs. I was hoping Tessanne would have more of a reggae vibe to her track. Hopefully, The 28-year-old Jamaican-born singer’s debut album which becomes available March 25, 2014 has a couple island-tinged singles. In the meantime, check out the studio version of “Tumbling Down” below and be sure to give your two cents afterward.

Cher Returns To The Voice To Mentor Contestants

In: Donovan, TV Shows

After almost a decade not performing live on television, the “Woman’s World” singer choose the NBC singing competition to debut her comeback single. Cher must’ve really enjoyed her time on the fourth season finale of The Voice. She returns to the show, but this time as one of the mentors during the battle rounds for Season 5. Find out who she’s paired up with below, along with the other three mentors.

“This group of wildly successful musicians will add their distinctive talents to their respective teams” Paul Telegdy, NBC’s late night and alternative programming president said in a statement. “I know Christina, Adam, CeeLo and Blake are very much looking forward to having them come aboard.”

Last week, OneRepublic released the music video for their new single, If I Lose Myself which will find it’s place on the band’s upcoming studio album, Naive. When the song first debuted, I immediately became a fan. The track seems to mix a little bit of Coldplay’s anthem-like sound with the breakdown of a David Guetta club banger, without all the extra electronic sounds. Despite the face that the song seems uplifting and powerful, it’s message and backstory is something of another nature.

“Even though it sounds like this euphoric, ‘let’s go crazy tonight‘ song, it’s a bit morbid; it’s about going down in an airplane,” frontman Ryan Tedder told MTV News. “Waking up on an airplane and finding our you’re going down, having that moment of sheer panic, looking out the window, seeing your life pass before you, [but] looking over to your right and seeing the person you love sitting next to you, and realizing ‘It could be worse … the next 90 seconds are going to be pretty thrilling, and this person is with me, so I’m okay.’”

In the video, a group of friends receive an invitation to a secret OneRepublic show in LA. As we follow the crew around the city chasing clues spray painted on fire hydrants and street signs, the video cuts to scenes of Ryan Tedder and the band jamming out to loft-life space full of fans. At the party, there is a ton of wolf and owl projection imagery ending with Ryan singing to the camera with a wolf projected on to his face. Check out If I Lose Myself below.

One Republic have just released an awesome new track called “If I Lose Myself Tonight” and it’s really good! This is the second single, following “Feel Again,” from their much anticipated third studio album, Native, which is scheduled for a release in January 2013.

The song is upbeat and dreamy in sort of the same way as Rihanna & Calvin Harris’ “We Found Love” is. It was produced by lead singer Ryan Tedder and it definitely falls in line with what everyone loves about One Republic’s music. I like this song better than their first single from the album and it’s also something I could also see Coldplay singing too.

In the chorus Tedder sings, “You can feel the light start to tremble / Watch what you know out the sea / You can see your life out the window, tonight / You can If I lose myself tonight / It’ll be by your side / I lose myself tonight / If I lose myself tonight / It’ll be you and I / Lose myself tonight.” Listen to the new track below and let me know what you think.

Leona Lewis has barely let the bed cool on her newest single, Trouble but already, Leona is dropping a new radio single upon us and I am so glad she chose this one. Leona had performed Glassheart at G.A.Y. last year and the YouTube video had me DYING to have the song released. Finally, the studio version has arrived and it’s even better than I remembered with a seriously sexy dub step breakdown.

“So baby if you love me, let me know
‘Cause everything hurts just like before
You’re about to tear this heart apart
I love you like a glass heart”

On Wednesday night, the track debuted on the Alex James Show on InDemandFM. As the title track for the album (due out October 15 in the UK), I really hope it gets the promo it deserves. This is definitely one of Leona’s strongest uptempo songs to date. Produced by Ryan Tedder and DJ Frank E, the single is a sure-fire hit.

Give a listen to “Glassheart” after the jump.
