Will Rihanna Finally Score Her First No. 1 Album?

In: Donovan, Music

Rihanna is sorta the Susan Lucci of the music industry when it comes to album sales. The 24-year-old singer can churn out hits and score Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles after another, but can’t seem to do the same when it comes to her albums. With six previous tries, Robyn Rihanna Fenty hasn’t topped Billboard’s Top 200 album chart yet. But will lucky number seven prove lucky for the “Diamonds” singer?

Before we get to RiRi’s projected first week sales numbers, let’s quickly discuss a few other notable releases this week. Hits Daily Double is giving a wider range than normal due to the Black Friday shopping blitz. Reigning American Idol champ Phillip Phillips’s debut album, The World From The Side of The Moon, is expected to move an impressive 140,000-160,000 copies its first week. Not too shabby. Meanwhile, OG Idol Kelly Clarkson will only sell about 45,000-50,000 units of her latest which isn’t bad for a greatest hits compilation. Other projections include Pitbull’s Global Warning (35-40K), Keyshia Cole’s Woman to Woman (75-80K) and Kid Rock’s Rebel Soul (160-180K). Find out Rihanna’s numbers below.

Rihanna hasn’t scored a No. 1 album yet on Billboard, but she just chalked up her 12th chart topper on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100. With “Diamonds” she now ties Madonna and the Supremes for the fourth-most No. 1s in the chart’s 54-year history. Holding the record for most No. 1′s are The Beatles with 20 chart leaders. Mariah Carey (18), Michael Jackson (13), Madonna (12) and The Supremes (12) all trail John, Paul, George and Ringo. Rihanna previously tied with Whitney Houston with 11 before surpassing the “I Will Always Love You” singer with “Diamonds”.

While Rihanna doesn’t sell as many albums as a few of her compatriots, there is no denying she’s a hit-making machine. Rihanna is definitely the poster child of today’s music landscape. With digital downloads making singles both affordable and easy to purchase, it’s all about singles these days and not so much about the album. All you need is a couple of hit singles and fill up the rest of the album with filler.

Very few artists these days carefully put out well-thought albums with great concepts and attention to the fluidity from track to track. Enough of me sounding like an old man reminiscing about the good old days, let’s check out all of Rihanna’s chart toppers. Yesterday, I posted about all the drama that has been taking place with the 150 reporters that have been touring with Rihanna on the 777 Tour as they all start to lose it due to lack of sleep. It was chaos on the plane as they departed from Berlin to London, but it looks that the drama of the tour carried over to London as well.

During her performance of “Where Have You Been,” the star abruptly stopped the song at the 1:06 mark and turned to her band and said, “Alright, what the f**k. Stop this sh*t. What the f**k is that?” She added, “Why is the track off from the band? This is the bullsh*t we deal with when we are just doing a random rock and roll tour with no rehearsal and sh*t.” The Unapologetic singer then said, “I apologize for everyone [live streaming] at home… We are going to start this one again from the top.”

Rihanna is currently on the 777 Tour with a 150 reporters from various print, radio, television, and online media. They all got to see Rihanna at the beginning of the trip as she walked through the plane to welcome them all, but since then, nothing and they’re all going a little coo coo with cabin fever. At around 3AM last night while waiting to depart on their flight from Berlin, everyone was chanting for her to come on the plane, or saying things like “save our jobs” and “just one headline.”

“So yeah, the #777tour plane staged a revolution against Rihanna on flight between Berlin and London,” Fuse senior writer Jason Newman tweeted. “Crowd chanted ‘Just one quote!,’ ‘I need a headline!’ and ‘Occupy 777′ while Aussie journo stripped naked and ran around the plane.” The streaker was Australian DJ Tim Dormer. I’ve included the video of the streaker below, with Esteban Serrano from Fuse saying to the camera, “We were looking for a story, and we turned out to be the story.”

Some of the hashtags being used include #FreeTheRihanna150 and #WhereHaveYouBeenAllThisFlight.

It’s a busy week for Rihanna right now, currently on her 777 tour with tons of press along with her, including our good friend and Homorazzi cast member, Jonny Staub who is there on behalf of The Beat. Prior to departing, she was on Ellen where DeGeneres was talking to her lady parts.

Today, one of her singles from her Unapologetic album has leaked and it’s the duet with Chris Brown called, “Nobody’s Business“. There continues to be a lot of backlash and a lot of criticism for their continued friendship (or maybe even friends with benefits) in addition to the fact they have collaborated once again. Regardless, Rihanna is doing it anyway and essentially feels that it’s “Nobody’s Business,” as the track implies.

I hate to say it, but the song is good and has a bit of a Michael Jackson feel to it. Of course the song didn’t (or doesn’t) have to include Brown to be good, but clearly Rihanna is embracing the controversy and sending out a message. Feel free to listen to it (or not listen to it) below.

On today’s episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Ellen opened up the show by talking about a study gaydar, if it’s actually real, the statistical accuracy, etc. Her take on the fact that there is actually a study on this was hilarious. “You may have noticed your gaydar was going off as soon as you walked into the studio…please keep it on silent during the show,” joked Ellen.

According to the study, gaydar is only 60% accurate. Ellen thought money spent on the study was coo-coo. “This is ridiculous, why do we need a gaydar, we have TMZ to tell us who’s gay,” she said. “I don’t like to label people. The only thing I label is my lunch in the refrigerator here at work and I write ‘Lesbian’ on it, that way everybody knows…”

Later, Ellen chatted with Rihanna about her sexy, naked GQ Magazine pictures, dating and kids, and she even had Rihanna play a game of “Who’d You Rather?” Ellen had Rihanna laughing a lot throughout the episode – especially when she started talking to “her” vagina. Keira Knightley & Rihanna Go Naked For December Covers

In: Donovan, Music

Maybe Daniel Craig saw a sneak peek at GQ’s December issue and that’s why he thought Rihanna would make a better Bond Girl than Beyonce. Someone’s obviously thinking with his other ‘head’ ;) Sex sells and that’s what GQ and Allure magazine are banking on with their nearly-nude December 2012 issues with Rihanna and Keira Knightley respectively.

First up is RiRi. The 24-year-old was chosen as the sole female for the publication’s annual Men of the Year issue. Wearing just a cropped leather jacket covering her boobs and arms strategically hiding her “ooh na na”, RiRi oozes sex from every pore. The “Diamonds” singer just announced the the cities for her 777 Tour, which kicks off this Wednesday in Mexico City and ends in New York City on November 20. I’m so jealous I won’t be on the party jet :(

“We are turning this jumbo jet into our tour bus. We’re practically living on this thing for a week: sleeping, partying, all together. Me, my fans, the press…it’s going to be a wild ride. I wanted it to be a rock n’ roll adventure, and I think when it’s over it will be the coolest thing I’ve ever done. I’m that excited about it.” – Rihanna

Beyoncé or Rihanna as a Bond Girl? You never know. If Denise Richards can land a role as one of 007′s sexual conquests, why can’t either of these gorgeous ladies? Who better to resolve this dilemma then James Bond himself, Daniel Craig. During one of his many interviews promoting Skyfall, the 44-year-old actor sat down with Global Grind and answered this all-important question.

It’s true what they say about men being from Mars and women hailing from Venus. When asked the same question, Skyfall’s Bond Girls, Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe, both choose Beyoncé, while Craig opted for the “Diamonds” singer. His reason for choosing Rihanna over Bey even shocked his co-stars. Find out what it is below. Feel free to fast-forward the clip until the tail end of the interview to learn his answer.
