Wow – sometimes you think that people are just taking these photos more so for other reasons (personal agenda or media exposure) than really trying to send a message. In this case, I will say it’s certainly the latter. Adam Bouska’s NO H8 campaign has given Cindy McCain the medium to send out a big message without saying much at all. As the wife of republican Senator John McCain, former Presidential candidate, she’s taking a bold step forward by posing for the campaign. Hopefully this will open the eyes of many McCain supporters, in that Prop 8 and everything it stands for is wrong.

The following was written on the NOH8 site:

“In the year since we’ve started the NOH8 Campaign, we’ve been surprised at some of the different individuals who have approached us showing their support. Few, though, have surprised us more than Cindy McCain — the wife of Senator John McCain and mother to vocal marriage equality advocate Meghan McCain. The McCains are one of the most well-known Republican families in recent history, and for Mrs. McCain to have reached out to us to offer her support truly means a lot. Although we had worked with Meghan McCain before and we were aware of her own position, we’d never really thought the cause might be something her mother could get behind.”

Protect Insurance Companies PSA

In: Patrick, Videos
health-insurance-psa-funny-or-die

Celebrities are speaking out about insurance companies in the US, “There’s A Storm Coming” style. Celebs also came together a while back during the Prop 8 backlash, with Prop 8: The Musical (with Emmy Host Neil Patrick Harris, Jack Black, John C. Reilly, and more). This time, stars like Will Ferrell, John Hamm, and Olivia Wilde are featured in this video aimed at bringing more attention to insurance company profits vs. health care reform.

Here are some of the quotes from the video spoof:

“We need to remember who the real victims are,” says Donald Faison (Scrubs), to which John Hamm replies, “The health insurance executive.”

“These great businessmen are American heroes,” states Linda Cardellini. “Insurance companies need our support because they keep our selfish priorities in check when we can’t.”

“So why is Obama trying to reform health care when insurance companies are doing just fine making billions of dollars in profit?” asks Will Ferrell.

Transplantation and Acclimation: Tips for Surviving Gay DC

No One is Ever Going to Meet You Anywhere Outside the NW

For those of you who aren’t in the know, DC is divided into four geographic quadrants, NW, NE, SW and SE. The gaybourhoods, Dupont Circle, Logan Circle and the U Street Corridor are all located in the NW, as are most of the bars. But occasionally, a random friend will invite you out to a new hot club in the NE or a chill lounge on the East Hill. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT fall for it. Essentially, it’s like someone saying to come out to Kitsilano (sorry Saleem) for a rockin good time. These offers will only bring you lame times with sketchy Metro rides.
