After seeing Sofia Vergara at the recent ACM Awards, some viewers were scratching their heads as to why the Modern Family actress was there. Obviously, she was there to promote her film Hot Pursuit co-starring Reese Witherspoon, but why appeal to the country crowd. Now, it all makes sense.
Miranda Lambert just debuted her offering to the film soundtrack. With Mrs. Blake Shelton channeling her inner lawbreaker with Carrie Underwood in “Something’ Bad,” she seemed an obvious choice to deliver the lead cut for the film. Lambert revealed to Ryan Seacrest on how she got involved.
“Reese texted me and told me about the movie and wanted me to write something or sing or both. I got inspired,” she said. “It was a bit of a Thelma and Louise theme and that’s totally up my alley. It is really so fun to be part of it.” – Miranda Lambert told Ryan Seacrest
Securing a top musician is a savvy business move by studios since soundtracks generate big business these days. Snagging Miranda seems to work on paper, but “Two of a Crime” is a bit underwhelming. It’s kinda all over the place. It’s a bit country and rock with some Latin flavor added in as an afterthought.
I suppose she was only following Reese’s orders who advised her to whip up something “Southern and a Latin flavor.” That’s not even the oddest thing. For some reason ,the last half of the song is mostly instrumental. So weird. I’ll chalk up this fail to it being Miranda’s first time writing a song specifically for the big screen. Check it out below and weigh in afterward.
Lately, Reese Witherspoon has been all about showing off her dramatic chops in fare like Wild, Devil’s Knot and The Good Lie. She returns to comedy in the buddy film, Hot Pursuit. It appears it was a smart move. The film has the potential to be this Summer’s sleeper hit based on the trailer.
Witherspoon plays a police officer assigned to protect Sofia Vergara who is set to testify against a major drug cartel. Naturally, hilarious hijinks occur as crooked lawmen and drug dealers pursue them. Love their reactions as they learn how news reporters have been describing them. One gets a little older, while the other more diminutive. I’m pretty sure you can guess which one is which.
Hot Pursuit is slated to open in theaters on May 8 during Mother’s Day weekend. Check out the trailer below and weigh in afterward. These two have fantastic chemistry.
Based on Mara Leveritt’s 2002 book of the same name, Devil’s Knot tells the true story of the savage murders of three young children in West Memphis, Arkansas in 1993. Due to the brutal nature of the crime, the community and police department were convinced the murders were the work of a satanic cult. Three teenagers known as the West Memphis Three were falsely accused of killing the boys and subsequently sentenced to life in prison.
Devil’s Knot first premiered at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Acclaimed Canadian director Atom Egoyan helms the film which stars Reese Witherspoon and Colin Firth. The former plays a mother of one of the murdered boys, while the latter plays a private investigator. Mireille Enos, Dane DeHaan, Stephen Moyer, Amy Ryan and Alessandro Nivola round out the cast. The movie gets a wide release on January 24, 2014. Check out the first trailer below.
Rodham isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until the 2016 Presidential Election, but that isn’t stopping the film’s director from giving interviews about it and spilling some major casting details. James Ponsoldt chatted with The Independent about which four ladies he has his eyes on to play a young Hillary Rodham Clinton.
“Regardless of people’s political affiliation or how they feel about Hillary Clinton, you don’t find people who question the quality of her intelligence or her drive,” Ponsoldt told The Independent. “I want a wonderful actress who could embody that.”
The biopic will focus on Clinton’s time as a House Judiciary Committee lawyer in her twenties. She served as a counsel to the committee during the Watergate scandal. There are rumors that Kim Young II’s script includes many racy scenes. When the scribe was asked about it, he coyly replied, “It’s an evolving process so I don’t know. She was an attractive 26-year-old with an amazing future. And that’s our thematic focus.” I’m not sure if the world is ready for a 50 Shades of Hillary type of flick. Don’t you agree?
Two of the four supposed frontrunners for the political role of a lifetime are Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon. If I had to chose between these two ladies, I’d cast my vote for Witherspoon. Her role as Tracy Flick in the 1999 film Election is exactly what I’d picture a young Clinton to be. Find out the other two ladies below.
I wonder if Reese Witherspoon tried to channel her inner Elle Woods during her run-in with the law this weekend in Atlanta. The Legally Blonde star was arrested for disorderly conduct according to Variety.com.
Witherspoon was with her power agent husband Jim Toth when police pulled them over under the suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Reportedly, he was swerving into the wrong lane. Guess he couldn’t
drive Walk The Line. Sorry. I just had to reference Reese’s Oscar winning role in the Johnny Cash biopic. The website says he blew a .139 on a Breathalyzer test.
Once Toth was placed under arrest, the 37-year-old actress exited the vehicle and was instructed to get back in the car. According to the report, she “stated that she was a ‘US citizen’ and that she was allowed to ‘stand on American ground.’” She was then handcuffed after her disobedience.
The arresting officer’s report goes on to reveal that, “Mrs. Witherspoon asked, “Do you know my name?” I answered, “No, I don’t need to know your name.” I then added, “right now.” Mrs. Witherspoon stated, “You’re about to find out who I am.” It goes on to disclose, “Mrs. Witherspoon also stated, ‘You are going to be on national news.’ I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine.” Someone was playing the celeb card, weren’t they? Oh Reese. Check out her mugshot below.
Maybe the third time will prove lucky for Reese Witherspoon? The Legally Blonde actress originally listed her Ojai Ranch for $10 million in September last year. After a couple months on the market, she lowered it to $8.9 million in November. Clearly, she’s determined to unload the property because it’s been reduced another time to $7.25 million. Given it’s history and serene outdoor surroundings, I’m surprised it’s not selling.
The historic Libbey Ranch was designed in 1923 for Edward Libbey, the father of the glass industry and considered the “founding father” of the town of Ojai. Before Witherspoon bought the Ojai ranch in early 2008, actor-director Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters) and celebrity designer Kathryn M. Ireland are among its previous owners.
For all you Twihards out there, this is the place where Robert Pattinson reportedly escaped to after he found out his girlfriend Kristen Stewart cheated on him. Here’s the property description from the agency listing it. For all you RHOBH fans, it’s The Agency which was founded by Kyle Richards’ husband Mauricio Umansky.
This historic, character-laden property features century-old hardware, fireplaces, arches, turrets, original stonework, plank floors and Spanish tiles. The four bedroom, 3-1/2 bathroom main house has a soaring beamed-ceiling living room (with a massive stone fireplace), a large and bright country kitchen opening to a large dining room, and a library loft with fireplace. There is also a swimming pool, barn, horse stables, three guest cottages, carriage house, organic garden, acres of pasture, and picturesque landscape designed by landscape starchitect, Jay Griffith.
The first trailer for an upcoming drama/thriller called Mud has just been released and it has successfully lured me in and I can’t wait to watch it. The movie comes from Take Shelter writer/director, Jeff Nichols and looks intense!
It’s described as a coming-of-age draam that centers around two fourteen-year-old boys who come across a mysterious fugitive (Matthew McConaughey) lingering around their tree fort, set out on an island in the Mississippi. The man (who goes by the name “Mud”) tells them a story about the love of his life (Reese Witherspoon) and they make a pact with him to help him reconnect with her and also to help him evade capture. The boys have difficulty differentiating from truth and fiction and things seem to spiral out of control quite quickly.
In addition to Witherspoon & McConaughey, the film is cast with several other talented actors that include Tye Sheridan, Sam Shepard, Sarah Paulson, Michael Shannon, Ray McKinnon, Joe Don Baker and Paul Sparks. The movie hits theaters on April 26. Check out the just-released trailer below!
A week after the Sandy Hook shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, two videos from very opposing camps hit the internet. First you have celebrities asking in a PSA, “How many more colleges? How many more classrooms? How many more movie theaters? How many more house of faith? How many more shopping malls? How many more street corners?” Demand A Plan is a grassroots initiative to mobilize Americans to DEMAND a plan to end gun violence from Congress and President Obama. Reese Witherspoon, Beyonce, Michelle Williams, Selena Gomez, John Hamm, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson and many, many more lend their voices to the PSA.
Coincidentally on the same day, National Rifle Association president Wayne LaPierre, held a live press conference. LaPierre claims the media is to blame for the shootings and not guns. He explains that the entertainment industry makes “the filthiest form of pornography,” citing violent music videos and films Natural Born Killers and American Psycho. He further goes on to say that “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” His most controversial comment that has celebrities on Twitter in a tizzy is his claim that had armed guards been at Sandy Hook, innocent lives would’ve been spared that day. Check out both vids below.
