out-magazine-power-50-list-2014

For the past several years, Apple CEO Tim Cook was top dog on OUT Magazine’s annual Power 50 list. For the 2014 edition, the 53-year-old has to settle for the runner-up slot. Ellen DeGeneres has reclaimed the most powerful title from the publication. The daytime talk show host stood at numero uno back in 2010.

“Everybody loves Ellen, and that’s one of the reasons she’s regained the top spot,” OUT writes. The magazine also cites DeGeneres’ epic Oscar selfie which broke the record of most retweeted post ever and briefly crashed Twitter.

For the past eight years, the publication has ranked powerful and prestigious gay men and women who have tremendous influence. The list is compiled of Hollywood power players, publishing magnates, political figures, web entrepreneurs and everything in between. It’s worth nothing Ellen Page who came out recently makes the list for the first time at No. 29. Find out who the LGBT cream of the crop are below.

Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart turns 25 this year. For those who thought the genre was just a fad back in the 80s, I’m sure they also picked Beta or VHS ;) To celebrate the chart’s silver anniversary, the publication counted down the Top 100 hip-hop songs of all-time. Definitely a difficult feat. Rap has certainly evolved since the days of Ice-T and Salt-N-Pepa, but is still as dominant a force as ever. Believe it or not, even PSY’s “Gangnam Style” made the cut at No. 42.

I’ve only highlighted the magazine’s Top 10 tracks below, but here’s just a sampling of my favorite cuts to rank on the list but miss out on the top tier of the countdown:

Loungin” – LL Cool J (97), “Heartless” – Kanye West (95), “C’Mon N’ Ride It (The Train)” – Quad City DJ’s (90), “Jump” – Kriss Kross (76), “I’ll Do 4 U” – Father M.C. (72), “Funkdafied” – Da Brat (66), “Rump Shaker” – Wreckx-N-Effect (65), “Around The Way Girl” – LL Cool J (64), “Dilemma” – Nelly feat. Kelly Rowland (60), “I Got 5 On It” – Luniz (57), “Da’ Dip” – Freak Nasty (51), “In Da Club” – 50 Cent (37), “One More Chance / Stay With Me” – The Notorious B.I.G. (35), “Knockin’ Boots” – Candyman (34), “Treat ‘Em Right” – Chubb Rock (31), “Me So Horny” – The 2 Live Crew (28), “Drop It Like It’s Hot” – Snoop Dogg feat. Pharrell (21), “Lean Back” – Terror Squad (20), “Best I Ever Had” – Drake (14), “Whatever You Like” – T.I. (13)

Earlier this week, Katy Perry notched her 9th career chart-topper. After a slight misstep with “Unconditionally,” the 29-year-old bounced back with “Dark Horse.” To be fair, “Unconditionally” did peak at No. 14 which is respectable and a number most artists would die for. Truthfully, I’m surprised the track didn’t fare better considering its gorgeous visual. Meanwhile, “Dark Horse” still doesn’t have an official video but managed to reach pole position on the Billboard Hot 100. Go figure.

Perry is now tied at 10th place with Elton John, the Bee Gees, Paul McCartney and Usher on the all-time list. Just ahead of her are Janet Jackson and Stevie Wonder (10), Whitney Houston (11), Madonna and The Supremes (12), Michael Jackson and Rihanna (13), Mariah Carey (18) and The Beatles with a whopping 20 No. 1 hits.

I thought it was the perfect time to look back at her career and rank all her chart toppers. For me, “Teenage Dream” is by far her best. Like leaps and bounds. No matter what version, remix or cover by another artist, the track is a winner. I never thought, Perry could release a more irritating single than “E.T.,” but she has. While clearly millions have warmed up to “Roar,” I still find it utterly irritating even after all this time. Not surprisingly, it’s my least favorite track by Katy. Check out how all her other hits rank.

Which Kylie Minogue Album Cover Is The Best?

In: Donovan, Music
kylie-minogue-kiss-me-once

Kylie Minogue just unveiled the album artwork for her twelfth studio album. The cover for Kiss Me Once is everything you’d expect from the diminutive dance diva. It’s flirtatious, sexy and flawless. It features Minogue putting her signature pout front and center behind water-splattered glass. I’m loving the dramatic red lips. As gorgeous as it is, I much prefer the artwork for her new single, “Into The Blue.” Talk about sexy. YOWZA!!!

With over 68 million worldwide record sales to her name, it’s clear the 45-year-old Aussie legend is beloved. Of course, more so in some territories than others. While North American masses have been hot or cold with Kylie throughout her career, the UK and her native Australia have remained loyal to their Queen Kylie.

As we await her 12th studio opus, it’s the perfect time to walk down memory lane and check out all her album covers. For the sake of this post, I omitted her numerous remix albums, compilations etc.. and just included official studio LPs. Check them all out below, along with my top five out of the bunch.

The Bachelor: Who Are The Ten Hottest Bachelors?

In: Donovan, TV Shows

January is here and you know what that means. It’s time for ABC’s guilty pleasure dating show to return. That’s right, I’m talking about The Bachelor. Yup, I’m a glutton for punishment and enjoy this often cringe-worthy reality show. For me, it’s not so much about being a hopeless romantic and hoping true love is found. But rather, it’s the “journey” that’s exciting to watch. I’m not talking about the over-the-top dates either, but mostly the seemingly sane women go crazy. What possesses a woman to cry their eyes out over a guy they’ve known for just a couple of days and in some instances a couple of hours, is beyond me. It’s so silly, yet so riveting to watch.

While most of the guys aren’t worth shedding a tear for, there are a few that are definitely worth getting involved in a catfight over. I’ve gone through all eighteen seasons (can you believe there have been that many) and ranked the Top 10 Hottest Bachelors to ever give out roses on the ABC show. I will admit, I haven’t watched all the seasons but watched my fair share.

Check out my updated rankings below and see if you agree with my choices. You might be surprised on a couple of omissions. See how new Bachelor Juan Pablo Galavis compares with the rest. Since he made the list, I had to bid adieu to US Naval Officer, Andrew Baldwin, to make room.

Believe it or not, Rihanna just notched her 13th chart-topper. With her collaboration with Eminem on “The Monster,” the Bajan singer now ties Michael Jackson on the all-time list. Insane, right? Personally, singing just the hook on predominantly rap songs seems like cheating, but if it’s okay with Billboard, it’s fine with me. Even if you take away her rap collabos, she still has ten chart-toppers which is still quite impressive given her age.

Prior to placing third with MJ on the all-time list, she previously was in a three-way tie with Madonna and the Supremes for the fourth-most. Holding the record for most No. 1′s in Billboard’s 54-year history are The Beatles with 20 chart leaders. Mariah Carey with 18 is in the runner-up slot.

While Rihanna doesn’t sell as many albums as a few of her compatriots, there is no denying she’s a hit-making machine. Rihanna is definitely the poster child of today’s music landscape. With digital downloads making singles both affordable and easy to purchase, it’s all about singles these days and not so much about the album. All you need is a couple of hit singles and fill up the rest of the album with filler.

Very few artists these days carefully put out well-thought albums with great concepts and attention to the fluidity from track to track. Enough of me sounding like an old man reminiscing about the good old days, let’s check out all of Rihanna’s chart toppers. Be sure to scroll all the way to the end of the post to see my ranking of all her hits.

Friends’ Thanksgiving Episodes Ranked

First and foremost, Happy Thanksgiving to all our US readers. Hope you’re not eating too much turkey today. Something I can never accomplish. I tend to overindulge big time during the holiday season.

To celebrate turkey day, I thought I’d rank Friends‘ Thanksgiving episodes. Their holiday-themed shows were typically their best and most anticipated of the season. Til this day, I still enjoy watching the classic NBC sitcom. Check out how I ranked the episodes below. To refresh your memory, I added a memorable scene from each. Enjoy!

British publication Heat magazine has ranked United Kingdom’s richest celebs under the age of 30 since 2010. From the very beginning, Daniel Radcliffe reigned supreme among his peers. That is until this year’s list. Not surprisingly the boys of One Direction knocked off Harry Potter from the top slot. With combined earnings of £59 million, the pop heartthrobs left their fellow countrymen (and women) in the dust.

Also making the list are Radcliffe’s Hogwarts classmates. Both Emma Watson and Rupert Grint ranked in the Top 10 at No. 5 and No. 7 respectively. Hermoine isn’t top bitch though. Earning the title as the highest-ranking female on the list is Keira Knightley at No. 4. Check out the rest of the Top 10 below.
