Yes, I’m aware what date it is. Yes I know when TO Pride was. But after waking up in a wheelbarrow in Tijuana it took me a while to find my way home. But actually Toronto Pride was a little like that this year.
I was thinking of calling this “Toronto Pride 2013: Sea of Tears” after Willam didn’t show for the weekend, but then it really did feel like the Pride that “Never Ended” because he did in fact show up the weekend after. Okay, let’s back track.
Pride Thursday I didn’t get a chance to go to the Green Space at the 519 and see Jinkx Monsoon perform. The crowd apparently was unreal, the show great, but being a little disappointed I bucked up and moved on because it was Pride, and this was the Pride when everything just worked out for me as you’ll see. I had a great time at Fly later that Thursday for Prism’s College party, and if you’re not a circuit queen, this is the Prism party to go to next year. Every age and shape shows and has a great time, the music is dece, it’s a Thursday and there’s still a great party, so there’s that. And the great thing is Shangela killed it on stage. Went to meet a friend for a cocktail upstairs though, and lo-and-behold there was Jinkx sittin’ pretty anyways, so got to have a bevvy with her after missing the show and she was an absolute dream and a truly lovely person. Nic – 1. Highlight of the night was having Shangela throw, literally throw me her phone in a panic and yell the password at me, and then tell me to bolt for the balcony to film her on stage because no one had been assigned to. I’ve never been so panicked! She may be 4 feet tall, but she gets what she wants with that voice! The footage was gotten.
Well I’m finally back from my week long road trip from Vancouver, BC to Indio, California for Coachella 2013 and I have to say it was arguably the best and most magical experience of my entire life. I make grand statements like that often but let me assure you, I am not exaggerating. For those of you who have considered attending a music festival before but haven’t had the time, or gotten around to doing it… get off your butt and do it. You will not regret it.
Here are some of the highlights of our insane trip…
After waking up at 5am we left Vancouver heading south through Seattle. After stopping in Portland to stock up on tax-free camping supplies, we were making good time and decided to take the scenic Oregon coast. WARNING: Do not attempt! We ended up having to cut back over to the I-5 and lost about 5 hours. After 20 hours of straight driving, we decided to sleep in Redding for the night.
Not everything needs a big dance beat when being rethought into a remix. Most of us have a weak spot for the ‘beep boop beep‘ of a high energy remix, or a dance that’ll keep us sweating, but sometime the best alternate versions of songs come from a more subtle approach.
I present to you, a few alternate versions of songs that I think are killer and give us more of a rethought, then a big bass ‘beep boop beep’. Ooooh alliteration and onomatopoeia. Look at me go.
This gem is from a few years ago now, but I just can’t seem to get sick of it. The original from back in 2009, was a touch on the mellow synth side, had a sweet melody, and although this remix doesn’t necessarily make you wanna’ do the butterfly (yes I was doing the butterfly this weekend), it does make you tap your feet, and maybe dance in front of the mirror (yes I was doing that this weekend too). It’s a keeper on the shuffle and always brightens my day a smidge.
This week, Drag Race was ALL ABOUT THE UNTUCKED! Honey that 30 minutes of backstage bitchiness was EVERYTHING. Let me give you a quick breakdown of the episode before we REALLY get down to it.
This week’s theme was QUEENS IN SPACE. The queens were divided into two group lead by Phoenix and Mariah, and given two scripts. Queens in Space, and Queens in Space 2. It was full of really cheesy punchlines, yadda yadda. Manilla had the best performance and makeup of everyone, but unfortunately her team lost. Alexis and Shangela shared the win and both got silicone tits as a prize.
FINALLY! FINALLY I CAN TALK ABOUT THIS!
I have been DYING to share everything about this episode ever since I saw it weeks ago (thanks to LOGO for the treat) and let me tell you, I was as shocked as the rest of you. Let’s get right down to the biggest news of this season.
SHANGELA FROM SEASON TWO IS BACK…W.T.F?!?
That was the monster surprise of season 3 so far, and after seeing that anything really is possible this season. In a previous post, I wrote about each of the queen and named some of my top queens. Now after watching the first episode, I’m going to name who I think have the best opportunity in going far. (Don’t hate me the rest of you)
We met all of them in the workroom as per usual, and the one that blew it out of the park was Mariah. That bitch is SO fucking sexy I can’t even stand it. And there’s just something about her that I LOVE so much. OF course I saw some familiar faces (Venus, Raja, Delta, Phoenix) and some new ones I came to know more (Yara Sofia) some stood out to me as exceptional (Mariah) and others faded into the background (Stacy). We learned a little bit about each of them, and found out the Shangela (still can’t believe it) got invited back. OH! Phoenix and India has the same wig…THE SAME FUCKING WIG CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!
Gentlemen…start your engines!
Yesterday RuPaul released the next 12 queens who would be on Drag Race and inevitably be shot into a stratosphere of gay fame that only a few know. As Homorazzi Drag Race specialist, I am back to report on season 3. I may not have liked season 2 (like at all except for a few girls), so I’m hoping and praying that this next season will be better.
Right away I can tell you that once again, Ru has stuck to mainly the “fish queen”. If you don’t know that term, it essentially means someone who’s gonna look like a real girl. There really isn’t much edge, there’s no real standout fierce looking (like REALLY fierce looking) queen. I don’t know why they haven’t chosen one. Nina Flowers was the only one from season 1 and she is still one of if not THE most popular from the series. It gives people something different. Maybe Ru was scared of a little competition?
Either way, here is the list of the 12 finalists for season 3. Some I know, some I know of, and some I’ve never seen before this. But I’ve done my research and listened to their interviews. Here is my first impressions!
In this episode of Homorazzi Hawt Topics, we have Jonny, Patrick, Topher, Dave, and of course Donovan behind the camera.
The five of them discuss the swine flu that is causing a scare worldwide, the MTV The Hills Aftershow that Homorazzi got to participate in after crashing Heidi & Spencer’s Wedding in Pasadena, and lastly the drama that went on with the Pussycat Dolls at their concert in Phoenix, Arizona last week.
I haven’t done a Song of the Moment since the start of the site, but not so much out of laziness, rather mostly because nothing’s really inspired me to write. France’s Phoenix have broken my silence. “1901” is off their upcoming album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, due out May 25th. And, with great songs comes great responsibilities. It’s one of those songs where I just want, nay HAVE, to tell everyone I know about it.
I first heard about these guys from a friend at work, but didn’t give them too much attention. A link off fark.com about the band appearing on SNL before their newest album even comes out led me to them again. Phoenix will be appearing on the late-night sketch show this weekend along with host Seth Rogen. I’ll be stuck in Redmond at a tech conference for work this weekend and my Saturday night could be a bit uneventful, so I might just catch this performance.
