There’s no denying that Mondays can be a bitch. It’s always hard to go back to the office after having a fun-filled weekend. Thankfully, two brand new shows make starting the week a bit easier for me. I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy The Carrie Diaries and The Following as much as I do. And that’s before both shows featured two gay kisses during last week’s episode. Since a new episode of each airs tonight, I thought it was a perfect time to blog about aforementioned smooches.
On The Carrie Diaries, Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb) and her best friend Walt (Brendan Dooling) celebrated Halloween in NYC. At the party, they meet Interview writer Bennett (Jake Robinson). During a chat, Bennett leans over and gives Walt his first man-on-man kiss. Still struggling to deal with his sexuality, Walt runs and heads back home to have sex with his ex-girlfriend Maggie (Katie Findlay). Side note: Check out our interview with Katie.
Over on The Following, two straight aspiring serial killers Will (Nico Tortorella) and Billy (Adan Canto) pretend to be gay to befriend a victim. After a series of flashbacks, we learn that during a drunken night, the two actually hooked up. This eventually leads to Billy developing real feelings for Will. Check out their angst-ridden kiss below, along with the Carrie Diaries’ one.
Did you watch the premiere of The Following on FOX this week? The serial killer drama lived up to its hype, especially the gory violence. I was definitely squeamish a certain points. If you haven’t watched it yet, I won’t spoil things too much, but I highly recommend it. Hopefully, the show can maintain the quality of action and suspense in the pilot episode throughout the season. Since I’m already hooked on the show, I thought I’d pit the show’s gay couple against each other in our latest Who’d You Rather battle. May the hottest man win.
First up is 24-year-old Nico Tortorella (left). I first noticed the Illinois native when he briefly starred in The CW’s ill-fated The Beautiful Life back in 2009. The former male model soon found work on both television and film. Tortorella appeared in ABC Family’s Make It or Break It and in the fourth installment of the Scream horror franchise. Nico obviously impressed Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson. He hired Tortorella again for his new creation, The Following.
Adan Canto (right) is an actor hailing from Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico. The 31-year-old Latin heartthrob appeared mostly in Mexican films before landing his role on FOX’s The Following. Canto made his film debut at the age of nine in Like Water For Chocolate. In addition to acting, Adan is a professional singer and plays the guitar and piano.
Now that you have a brief background on each stud, check out a few photos before picking Who’d You Rather. Not trying to sway the vote in any particular way, but I love me some Tortorella. I picked him as my Man Crush a few years ago. Watching him on The Following has inspired me to update that post in the near future. Enough campaigning, check out both guys below.
If Ryan Murphy does go ahead with that Men of McKinley High calendar featuring the male cast of Glee, he should really book Christian Rios to snap the pics. The photographer does an excellent job of capturing Chord Overstreet’s (Sam Evans) hotness. The picture alone is enough incentive to purchase Rios’ new coffee table book titled, Dreamers NYC.
The 2012 edition of Rios’ book with VNY model Simon Van Meervenne on the cover is in part a fundraiser. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. In addition to Overstreet, Patrick Schwarzenegger and The Following’s Nico Tortorella join top male models in the beautifully-shot book. Paris Hilton’s latest boy toy, River Viiperi, Vladimir Ivanov and Round 1 winner of our 2012 Male Behavior Showdown, Sean O’Pry are some of the fashion industry’s top names who posed for the celeb photographer. Check out a few of the images below.
When FOX announced its new schedule at their upfronts earlier this Spring, The Following was the show I was most stoked about. Sadly, the network decided to hold off on the show until midseason. BOO. Thankfully, the wait is almost over and 2013 is just around the corner. FOX just released a new promo poster that’s undoubtedly one of the best of the new season. It’s mesmerizing, creepy and beautiful all at the same time.
Just to give you a bit of background on the show. It’s from the brainchild of Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson’s Creek), but vastly different from anything you’ve seen from him. It’s an edge-of-your-seat thriller starring Kevin Bacon and Nico Tortorella. Bacon is an ex-FBI agent called out of retirement to track down a devious and diabolical serial killer (James Purefoy), the mastermind behind a nationwide string of murders. When I first saw the trailer, I got a Brad Pitt Se7en vibe.
Now that you know the premise of the show, the new artwork for The Following will resonate even more. It features a nearly-naked woman with Edgar Allan Poe lines written all over her body. Previous key art from the network used the same theme, but this new one is a much more elevated and refined version. Check it out below, along with the trailer.
Halloween is over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have any more treats (and maybe a trick). Here’s one sweet tasty treat that will satisfy you without all the calories.
I first noticed Nico Tortorella when he appeared on the CW’s short-lived The Beautiful Life. Naturally, the 24-year-old played a model on the show. He certainly has the bone structure to play that role. After its cancellation, he popped up on Scream 4 and ABC Family’s Make It or Break It. With a new high-profile gig on the horizon, you’ll be seeing Tortorella a lot more. In January, he’ll star in the Kevin Bacon-led drama The Following on FOX. That show looks so good.
One His Highly-Anticipated New Show
“All my friends and family are a few less degrees closer to Kevin Bacon at this point. The show is your basic cop drama on crack. You have your detectives, your bad guys, and your victims. I am sure with the team we have this will be some epic television.”
To promote his new show, Nico posed for a fashion editorial for Treats! magazine. Shot by Christian Rios, the actor invited the magazine to snap him in his own personal pad in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Styled by Vanessa Geldbach, Tortorella oozes vintage cool swagger as he wears jeans and chunky knits. Check out the photos below.
WOW, is all I have to say. The voting for the first round of our “Man Crush 2010 Showdown” exceeded our expectations. Over 22,000 votes were cast in just seven days. After all the seesawing back and forth, Scott Herman bested all others and has a secured a spot in the finals. Runner-up Henry Cavill came in second, losing by only 600 votes from first place.
All is not lost for Cavill fans. Depending on how the rest of the two remaining rounds go, he has a shot at two wild card slots. The finals will have the winner of each of the three rounds and the two crushes who had the highest number of votes but didn’t advance. With over 12000 votes cast, Cavill has a good shot of earning a finals berth and getting a little payback.
If you enjoyed “Man Crush 2010 Showdown” Round 1, you’re going to love Round 2. It has even sexier guys than the previous set. The list includes a trio of werewolves, a “Teenage Dream” and someone who hangs out with wild animals. Dangerous and sexy. Yum. Check out the studs in contention below and see why they were my weekly crushes during the months of May til August. Don’t forget to cast your votes daily and often.
Voting ends Monday Dec 20 when Round 3 begins.
This flick is gonna be epic! Not only am I excited for one of the most popular thrillers of all time to make a comeback with all of the lead cast (that weren’t killed off: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox), but the list of new stars in the fourth of the series keeps on getting better!
So far, we have Emma Roberts (Valentine’s Day) as Jill Kessler, Hayden Panattiere (Heroes) as Kirby Reed, Adam Brody (The OC) as Detective Hoss, Rory Culkin (Macaulay’s little brother, Signs). Now we have Anna Paquin (True Blood) and Kristin Bell (Veronica Mars) joining the ranks of the others as well!
Nico Tortorella. Commit that name to memory. It’s a name you’ll be hearing a lot more of in the future- guaranteed. He’s scored a major role in the highly-anticipated Scream 4. The 21-year-old (July 30, 1988) model-turned-actor is the object of my affection as this week’s crush. Born in Wilmette Illinois, the mid-westerner can attribute his dark-haired chiseled looks due to his Italian ancestry.
Tortorella started out his career in professional theater when he was just in the 7th grade. In 2007, he went on an open call and landed a coveted modeling contract with Ford Models. After a string of modeling gigs for various publications and designers, he started to win acting roles.
His biggest role prior to being cast as Trevor Sheldon in Scream 4, was his starring role on the short lived The Beautiful Life on The CW– my guilty pleasure for the 2009-10 TV season. It’s there where Nico met his rumored girlfriend and former co-star, Sara Paxton. Later this year, the studly actor has a minor role in Joel Schumacher’s Twelve which stars Chace Crawford, Emma Roberts, 50 Cent and Kiefer Sutherland.
