Since Vancouver Pride is around the corner, I thought I’d start promoting some of the parties I’m attending. I’m already tired thinking about all the events I’m going to check out. For once, I thought I’d be responsible this weekend and take it easy in preparation for next week’s debauchery. My poor body has no idea what I have in store for it ;) No sleep and too many cocktails.
To kick off our YVR PRIDE coverage, I decided to go with Big Roger’s Events. I typically don’t love sponsoring parties, but when they asked me sponsor their Friday night party SUGAR POP @ FANCLUB, I couldn’t resist. They let me pick a local charity (YouthCO) that the party would partly benefit. Plus DJ Joe Gauthreaux is mixing tunes, along with performances by Derek Parker & Shawn Wolfe. It’s definitely going to be insane.
If you remember the mayhem that ensues after the DAVIE STREET BLOCK PARTY, you know the clubs in the village are a mad house. Why not go just around the corner to Granville and kick it at this party. If you’ve never been to FANCLUB, it’s a great space. Plus it’s only $20 in advance. Use PROMO CODE “HOMO” and save $5 (valid for only 72 hours) Check out Big Roger’s other YVR PRIDE events below.
We start the weekend off at a brand new, fun, high-energy candy-coated dance party with world renown DJ JOE GAUTHREAUX (NYC) in one of Vancouver’s sweetest new spaces. Info at www.bigrogerevents.com
Friday August 2, 10PM – 3AM
Vancouver FanClub – 1050 Granville Street, Vancouver
Pride week has kicked off here in Toronto this week and Church-Wellesley Village and beyond is on fire right now. Just driving or walking down the streets, you can feel the frequency the city is vibrating at. Although I’m sure we’ll be stopping in for a beer at Woody’s and a drink at Crew’s this week here and there, here’s a little pick of what’s different and going on around the city. Whether you’re staying central, or partying West, these should be a blast and make it feel like Pride.
Well, at least I can’t complain there’s nothing to do in this city during the week tonight! Vancouver has this image of being a great city to visit to ski, to climb mountains, to hit the beach and to get the opportunity to pay $6 too much per shot of tequila, but when it comes to live shows of local talent in the pop music domain? Well, we’re not exactly bursting at the scene with opportunities to party like a rock star into the late hours of the night. Tonight that changes.
After two and a half years of fine-tuning and toning his instrument and his style, dance/pop artist Tyrell Witherspoon is releasing his sophomore EP “Scorpio” to what I can assure you will be a crowd of handsome men (I’ve seen the list, and trust me: I’m pretty damn superficial) and fit ladies in Vancouver’s iconic Gastown district at the trendy Electric Owl Social Club. Having watched Tyrell perform throughout the country and most memorably at last year’s Whistler Pride I know that the dancing will be perfected to a tee, the songs will definitely ring true for the crowd attending and the energy will be the perfect way to start off the weekend.
WinterPRIDE 2013 is only six weeks away, with this being the 21st Annual Gay Ski Week in Whistler, B.C. A bunch of us here at Homorazzi actually started attending back in 2009 and that’s actually where we came up with the name for what would be known as “Homorazzi” one year later. We always have such a blast, and the last couple years we’ve even captured our experiences in video recaps. Patrick and Adam actually once spent the entire week at WinterPRIDE and had an unforgettable time meeting people from all over the world and attending some incredibly fun parties and apres skis. Homorazzi will be there again this year and we definitely want to see YOU there too!
Every year, there are different performers and events to look forward to and this year there is no exception. The winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, the amazing Chad Michaels will be there to perform and the headlining DJ for the week is DJ Paul Goodyear. In addition, one of the sexiest and most popular porn stars around, Brent Everett will also be on the mountain and appearing at various events.
Without further delay, check out the Top 10 Reasons why you and your friends should get your ski bums in gear and start planning to be at WinterPRIDE 2013 taking place this coming February 3 – February 10 in Whistler, B.C..
Vancouver’s own club sensation, Peter Breeze, celebrated the launch of his newest music video on Friday night at one of my favourite bars. The video premiered to a full house at 1181 and received an overwhelmingly positive and excited response from the crowd.
For his latest single, LA, Peter again teamed up with Rami Mikhail. The two previously collaborated on the videos Fucktalk (Buy Me a Drink), X-Rated Angel, and Taxi. The video features some stunning shots of the singer covered in blood and wearing outrageous make-up, juxtaposed with some famous paparazzi videos and celebrity sex-tapes. There’s a certain rawness and honesty to this video that is so authentically Peter. I absolutely love it.
Amidst the insane crowd and chaos I got a chance to catch up with Peter and ask him a few questions about the video. Check out the video for LA and his interview below…
Anyone who’s been on this site within the last couple years has seen Tyrell’s name more than a few times a day as he covers everything from dance to music to the latest entertainment interviews. On top of his insane writing schedule he keeps up his long standing dancing career working with different (oh what do the kids call them these days..?) troupes/companies. With the four remaining hours left in a day, Tyrell has been working this past year+ on his singing career performing at events and locations around Canada, and today marks the release of his latest and by far most professional piece to date: “One Step Closer“.
Tyrell is most often recognized for his work on the CW’s “Hellcats” as a dancer but has come into his own as a solo singer and entertainer. Thankfully he makes huge use of his years of dance experience to liven his shows and- as you’ll see after the jump- his video today. Having opened for acts like Destineak, Wynter Gordon and Martha Wash, Tyrell has learned the ins and outs and dos and don’ts of this insane industry I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole. The culmination of his work is most definitely the piece below as the official vid release for “One Step Closer” which he worked on with my good friend and local music talent producer/editor Nick Bertossi whose own work as a (sexy and bearish) DJ proceeds him. Looking at the ever-present issue of “the other man” in the gay community, Tyrell and real-life fiancée and writer Patrick Levesque flirt, fight and f… (KIDDING) their way through a rocky relationship that will probably remind you of at least a few couples you saw out this past weekend. Check it out!
Well I was looking at our latest poll “What topics should we cover more of?” and Gay Issues is winning by a landslide having over 100 more votes then any other category. So I’ve been trying to do more post about Gay Issues and what’s going on in the world of GAY GAY GAY! One of my last posts about the Halton Catholic School Board in Ontario really hit me hard because like I said I’m currently working on setting up a Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) at my old high school.
I started my journey back in October to go back to my old high school, Centennial S.S. in Coquitlam, and set them up with a great GSA. It doesn’t sound difficult but there’s actually a lot of work that goes into it. I had to write up the proposals for the Teachers Board to go over for the club to get approved, get a criminal records check, find teacher sponsors at the school and also lock in a date we wanted to launch the club. Centennial use to have a club back when I was there (2001-2005) but it was very small and the people in it didn’t seem very welcoming, I also wasn’t out at the time. Since I graduated they stopped having one. So going into building a new club I had to face the fact that there was a stereo-type against the club of only the “hardcore gay kids.” To get past this I have planned a large event to kick-start the club with performances by dancers, singers, and actors from the LGBT and straight communities. I want to try and make it seem more inclusive so that it’s not just about the gay kids but for anyone who needs to have that safe place to go to once a week and hang out with some other people who at times might not feel like they fit in anywhere else. Plans are underway and all is going amazingly well, better than I could have imagined.
Vancouver Pride is only one week away and we continue to give you the inside scoop on where you need to be, when, and why. The legendary Rapture parties put on by Homorazzi’s own Tommy and his company The Flame & The Dame are a must for those seeking the biggest parties & most entertaining performances that everyone will be talking about. After 10 years of Rapture, and TFD’s third anniversary putting the parties on, this year is certainly no exception.
It’s going to be amazing and unforgettable. Homorazzi’s amazeballs besties Jessica & Hunter welcome you to Rapture below. For tickets info, click here. All the event details later in the rest of the post.
