There are no words!!! Seriously, I’m absolutely speechless. This has to be the most outlandish and cheesiest thing I’ve seen in a long time. If you can’t wait til Tuesday, March 19 for ABC to premiere its newest celebrity reality competition, you’re in luck. The network released the first few minutes of Splash.
The over-the-top intro begins with what looks like your typical red carpet with photographers and stars strutting in their fancy duds. Turns out it’s a big ‘ol fake out. The red carpet is actually a diving platform. One by one they jump off performing ballroom type of choreography. If that wasn’t enough, synchronized swimmers wearing high heels and acrobats propelled by a swinging pendulum pop up. That’s all before the “celebrities” are introduced.
One thing is certain from the preview. What the ABC diving competition lacks in male eye candy when compared to FOX’s one-time diving special, “Stars In Danger: The High Dive,” which aired a couple of months earlier, the alphabet network makes up in budget. No expense was spared in this splashy (excuse the pun) intro.
Earlier this month, FOX beat ABC to the celebrity diving punch with Stars In Danger: The High Dive. Unlike that two-hour special, the alphabet network’s diving competition will take place over a few weeks. Splash! is based off the hit Dutch show Sterren Springen (Celebrities Jump). Currently, there is a UK version of the reality show starring Olympic hottie Tom Daley as the expert mentor. ABC just announced its mentor, judges and most of the celebrities competing on the American version.
Olympic diving legend Greg Louganis will train the celebrities as they leap off the 10-meter high dive. Judging the competition are London Olympic gold medalist David Boudia and USA Dive Team director Steve Foley. While FOX went the eye candy route in casting David Chokachi, Twitch and Antonio Sabato, Jr., ABC is clearly going the comedic route with their celebrity choices. Comedians Louie Anderson and Chelsea Handler’s sidekick Chuy Bravo are definitely going to provide laughs for multiple reasons ;)
In ABC’s defense, they also have a Baywatch alum on board (FOX had two), along with two former child stars, an NFL player, a former Playmate and a beauty queen. Check out eight of the ten stars participating in Splash! below. The other two remaining celebrities will be revealed as we approach the show’s premiere on Tuesday, March 19.
The other day, Fox revealed their new celebrity dating show, “The Choice“, debuting this summer. It’s “The Voice” meets “The Dating Game” sprinkled with a little “So You Think You Can Dance” courtesy of Cat Deeley. The British host will be serving double duty this summer for FOX by returning to SYTYCD and hosting this new reality guilty pleasure.
So what is “The Choice“? It’s your opportunity to go on a date with a “celebrity”. The six-episode series will feature singles pitch themselves as the ideal love connection to celebrity bachelors/bachelorettes who are seated with their backs turned to them a la “The Voice” during the blind auditions. If more than one celebrity turns around, the non-famous single person will get to choose who they want. From there, it goes to some sort of “Speed Choice” round, but I’ll wait for Cat Deeley to describe that part when the show airs. This post is to reveal all the celebrities involved.
Appearing on the show are 20 male celebs and 4 female ones. They range from professional athletes, to reality stars to actors. If you’ve ever wanted to date Mike “The Situation”, Olympian Jeremy Bloom or middle child Joe Jonas, then “The Choice” is the “choice” for you. Check out all the stars willing to sell themselves out for some television airtime. Truth be told, there are actually a couple of hotties. I’d even sign up for an opportunity to win them over.
