No rest for the wicked as they say. Just days after winning Album of the Year for Babel at the Grammys, Mumford & Sons filmed the music video for “Whispers In The Dark.” If you’re a fan of them, you’ll definitely appreciate the clip.
Director Jim Canty did an excellent job of highlighting all the members of the British folk rock band. The clip is divided into four frames, showing each of the guys traveling to their concert. Frontman Marcus Mumford rides a 2012 Triumph Bonneville T-100, while the others opt for other modes of transportation including a car, boat and even on foot. The cinematography is top notch and the narrative is what you’d expect from the band. Check out the clip below. Be forewarned, you might have to watch it a couple of times to catch all the action.
Last night, the 2013 Grammy Nominations concert took place, revealing this year’s nominees and inadvertently, those who surprisingly weren’t nominated. Leading the pack this year were Fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, and Kanye West who scored six nominations each. Following their lead were The Black Keys and Miguel with five nods. Vocal powerhouse, Kelly Clarkson was treated to four nominations, Taylor Swift got three, and Canada’s own Carly Rae Jepsen, got two nominations.
Both Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj were both snubbed by the Grammys this year. Nicki Minaj was nominated for “Best Rap Album” last year, but moving into the pop category this year, she didn’t make the cut. I’m genuinely surprise that Bieber didn’t get nominated for his Believe album – I thought the album was quite strong myself. His manager Scooter Braun took to Twitter to voice his opinion. After first congratulating Carly Rae Jepsen, he said, “this time there wont be any wise words, no excuses, I just plain DISAGREE. The kid deserved it. Grammy board u blew it on this one… He later added, “the hardest thing to do is transition, keep the train moving. the kid delivered. Huge succesful album, sold out tour, and won people over…” In another tweet, he insisted, “…this time he deserved to be recognized and I dont really have any kind nice positive things to say about a decision i dont agree with.”
In any event, he didn’t get nominated but the giant list of people below did. The 55th annual Grammy Awards air Sunday, February 10, on CBS. Check out the nominees below. As a side note, Donovan had previously listed his “Best New Artist” predictions, getting two out of the thirteen options listed correct. I’ve made note of the two he got right underneath that category. In his poll, post people picked Carly Rae Jepsen, but she actually wasn’t nominated in that category.
A 28th season of SNL begins on September 15 and the first batch of hosts and musical guests have just been announced. The sad thing about this upcoming season is that it will be short at least three former cast members, including Kristin Wiig, Andy Samberg, and Abby Elliott.
On its second weekend back (September 22), Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be hosting the show with musical guest Mumford & Sons. Gordon-Levitt previously hosted back in 2009. The week following that (October 6), Daniel Craig (the sexy James Bond) will be hosting with musical guest, Muse. Craig will be promoting the latest Bond movie, Skyfall and this will be his first time hosting SNL.
The person hosting the season premiere will be hosting with musical guest Frank Ocean, who came out as gay not too long ago. Find out who the season premiere host is below.
So I know I should probably talk about Laneway Festival that I went to in Brisbane on the 29th of January. I should probably talk about the whole festival and how I saw the scarce but diverse and amazing Alternative crowd in the city congregate. I will say that we walked into watching Mumford & Sons perform a set that turned me onto their entire album, especially after they played the song voted #1 in Australia on Triple J’s top 100 this year “Little Lion Man“. I will also give props to seeing The XX for a second time and mellowing out with them and their single “Islands“. Brilliant musicians.
What I will talk about is the album that I cannot stop listening to on repeat now. I had known about Florence and the Machine from a brilliant remix actually by The XX of “You’ve Got the Love“. Through a few plays on my friend’s iTunes, I had gotten enough in my head to think I’d enjoy their headlining performance at Laneway. But I had know idea I’d be as blown away as I was.
