I can already picture the pitch meeting with the studio execs, “it’s The Hangover but with seniors.” In all honesty, if they rebranded this The Hangover Part 65, I would buy it as a sequel to the Bradley Cooper flicks.
When you hear of four Academy Award-winning actors starring in a film, the last thing you’d expect from them to appear in is a comedy about boozing it up in Las Vegas. It’s for that very reason that makes Last Vegas potentially a hilarious flick. Seeing Morgan Freeman getting his drunk on is worth the price of admission alone. Who knew he was such a party animal? Check out the teaser trailer and official synopsis below.
Billy (Academy Award®-winner Michael Douglas), Paddy (Academy Award®-winner Robert De Niro), Archie (Academy Award®-winner Morgan Freeman) and Sam (Academy Award®-winner Kevin Kline) have been best friends since childhood. So when Billy, the group’s sworn bachelor, finally proposes to his thirty-something (of course) girlfriend, the four head to Las Vegas with a plan to stop acting their age and relive their glory days. However, upon arriving, the four quickly realize that the decades have transformed Sin City and tested their friendship in ways they never imagined. The Rat Pack may have once played the Sands and Cirque du Soleil may now rule the Strip, but it’s these four who are taking over Vegas.
The trailer for an upcoming political action thriller called Olympus Has Fallen and it looks so good! There are so many good actors in it as well.
In the film, terrorists have taken over the White House and are holding the President (Aaron Eckhart) hostage, with a lone Secret Service agent (Gerard Butler) trying to save the day. When the President is held hostage, leave it to Morgan Freeman to be the acting President. LOL. Even when he’s not the president, he becomes the acting president… I love it. I kind of get a 24 vibe from it where in Season 7 the White House was invaded and President Taylor was taken hostage. That’s find with me, I loved 24 and in particular, that season!
As mentioned, there are so many great actors in this movie. In addition to those already mentioned, the film also has Ashley Judd (the First Lady), Angela Bassett, Dylan McDermott, and Melissa Leo. The film comes out on March 22. Check out the trailer below!
Coming in April 2013 is a new sci-fi thriller called Oblivion based on the graphic novel of the same name and is directed and co-produced by Joseph Kosinski
The story takes place on a future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition after a war against aliens (known as the Skavs) took place 60-years prior. The humans won that war, but it made Earth uninhabitable. Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen (aka. the cleanup crew) stationed on Earth. His role is part of a massive operation to extract vital resources from Earth and his mission is nearly complete. Things spiral out of control when he rescues a woman from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
The film also stars Morgan Freeman, Melissa Leo and Olga Kurylenko. Enjoy the first trailer below – it looks really good!
Academy Award winner, Morgan Freeman has lent his legendary voice to various commercials, documentaries and campaigns over the course of his career. Now, the 75-year old has lent his voice to a new national HRC commercial called “Dawn of a New Day for Marriage Equality“. In the commercial, Freeman says the following:
“America stands at the dawn of a new day. Freedom, justice, and human dignity have always guided our journey towards a more perfect union. Now, across our country, we are standing together for the right of gay and lesbian Americans to marry the person they love. And With historic victories for marriage, we’ve delivered a mandate for full equality. The wind is at our back. But our journey has just begun.”
Complimenting his narration are beautiful visuals of various scenic landscapes, clips of Martin Luther King, clips of gay and lesbian couples and families together, and more. It’s so great to have such a famous and recognizable voice support such an important cause. Watch the new commercial below.
Isla Fisher, Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, and Dave Franco are playing the world’s greatest illusionists in an upcoming movie called Now You See Me and the trailer has just been released.
It’s a game of cat and mouse between an elite FBI squad and “The Four Horsemen,” a super-team of the world’s greatest illusionists. The foursome pull off a series of daring heists against corrupt business leaders during their performances and shower the stolen profits on their audiences – always staying one step ahead of the law. It’s an interesting concept and has a lot of great people in it! Michael Caine plays the owner of a bank and appears to be one of the villains in this story. Mark Ruffalo and Melanie Laurent are part of the FBI, while I’m not certain who Morgan Freeman is in the story, but he seems to be some sort of expert in magic and illusion.
The the crime thriller comes out June 7, 2013. Check out the trailer below!
Last night, CBS housed the People’s Choice Awards hosted by Kaley Cuoco of the networks hit comedy, The Big Bang Theory. The show opened with a hilarious concept of Kaley playing her character from the show as her and the rest of cast got ready to watch the show and cast their votes for the nominees. Suddenly, her agent calls her to attend the show as a seat filler but once she gets there, switches gears and begins to the host the show. While going through her opening monologue, she’s interrupted by Neil Patrick Harris who is sitting in the audience and wearing a mic. Not today NPH, not today.
The show moved along surprisingly quick with only two musical acts throughout the show. The first came courtesy of comeback kid, Demi Lovato who rocked it out in a red dress. The second performance was from Faith Hill who did her country rendition of OneRepublic’s Come Home.
The show also scored a few highlights including a great kiss shared between Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka when Neil won for favorite TV comedy actor. Another slam dunk was Jane Lynch’s portrayal of the show’s seat coordinator. Interviewed by ET’s Mark Stenis, she showed the audience just how she “decides” where celebrities sit. The cast of Pretty Little Liars presented a few categories themselves and the biggest miss of the night goes the horrible CVS Pharmacy product placement stint which went on for far too long. Check out the full winner’s circle and some of my favorite moments in video form below.
Although the release of the next Batman film is an entire year away, the anticipation is enough to have all of us foaming at the mouth. Even the dinkiest of pictures leaking online of the food trucks parked outside the sets have fans going wild. Now, we have our first look at the official first poster promoting the film set for release in July 2012.
As you can see, the poster shows Gotham City crumbling and falling apart which suggests that this film may be just as dark if not darker than then its predecessor The Dark Knight. My favorite part is how all the falling rubble forms the Batman logo. Those graphic designers. So clever.
If this isn’t enough for you, you may be in luck. There are rumors going around that a teaser trailer for the film (which just began filming) is to be attached to the final installment of the Harry Potter franchise which opens in theaters this Friday. I don’t know what exactly they will be showing but who cares, it gives us something to hold on to right? Are you looking forward to The Dark Knight Rises next summer?
Hitting your DVD shelves this week is the action/adventure comedy Red. This gem stars Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman just to name a few. The film follows Frank, a a former black-ops CIA agent who lives a quiet life at home until one day, a hit squad shows up to kill him. With his identity now compromised, Frank reassembles his old team to still prove they have a few tricks up their sleeve.
Reviewers weren’t too hard on this flick but many said that ever since Die Hard, Bruce Willis only plays one character. Many ratings came back as 3 out of 5 stars or B grade. However, many loved the ensemble of the cast and what they brought to the story.
The DVD packs some special features like extended and deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes looks and interviews with the cast and crew. If you like the simple action/comedy with an all-star ensemble cast then I recommend you check this out. It is available on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray Special Edition.
