Last issue, Time Magazine put same-sex marriage front and center on their cover. This time around they look to Jennifer Lawrence and six others to grace their annual 100 Most Influential issue. From artists and leaders to pioneers, titans and icons, the issue highlights the most influential people in the world. Each person is profiled by an equally luminary voice. In Lawrence’s case, it’s Academy Award winning actress Jodie Foster.
“You’ll remember where you were when you first felt it, how you were stuck to one spot like a small animal considering its end. The Jennifer Lawrence Stare. It cuts a searing swath in your gut. A reckoning. I remember going to the cutting rooms of Winter’s Bone. I thought, Sure, this girl can act. But, man, this girl can also just be.” – Jodie Foster
Photographer Mark Seliger snapped Lawrence for one of seven collectible covers. Gracing their own cover are Jay-Z (artist and entrepreneur), Elon Musk (SpaceX and Tesla founder), Li Na (tennis champion), Aamir Khan (film star and activist), Rand Paul (U.S. Senator) and 15-year-old activist Malala Yousafzai. Check out their covers below, along with some of my favorite entertainment stars included on the Time 100 list. Side note: If you love lists as much as I do, be sure to check out OUT magazine’s 50 Power List as well.
“Hermoine just stole our sh*t.” Based on that line alone, I’m sooooo seeing this. After releasing a faux Pineapple Express 2 movie trailer on April Fools’ Day to promote This Is The End, Seth Rogen drops an actual one for it. It’s the second red band trailer for his on-screen reunion with James Franco.
“This Is The End” features all the actors playing fictional versions of themselves. They congregate at Franco’s house for a kick ass house party. Given that it’s a gathering in Hollywood, expect a few celebrities to pop in. Rihanna, Aziz Ansari, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Paul Rudd and Mindy Kaling all partake in the festivities. Rihanna even slaps Cera after he makes the moves on her.
During the party, as luck would have it, the end of the world happens. One by one people start dropping dead. Rihanna gets swallowed up by the earth and Cera gets lanced by a light post. An axe-wielding Emma Watson also makes an appearance in the flick. Check out the brand new trailer featuring some violence and lots of references to titty f**king.
New Girl, The New Normal and The Mindy Project are all back from their respective winter breaks with brand new episodes tonight. Halleloo. I need a good laugh today. To commemorate its return, I thought I’d share a picture of Allison Williams‘ (Girls) guest appearance on tonight’s show and breaking casting news of a major movie star heading to the FOX sitcom next month.
On the February 19 episode titled, “The One That Got Away,” we find our favorite gynecologist heroine reuniting with a former flame named Sam. The two reminisce about their time at Jewish summer camp (LOL) and begin to rekindle their summer teen romance. Rumor has it, Sam was her first kiss. Can’t you already hear one of Katy Perry’s songs playing in the background. Find out who’s playing Sam below. Here’s a hint. He’s played a super hero in a major motion picture in the past couple of years. Find out who below.
It’s a new year and with it comes new beginnings. In this case, new episodes for one of my favorite freshmen sitcoms (The New Normal being the other). Even when The Mindy Project isn’t at its best, Mindy Kaling herself brings it on home. That woman is so dang adorable. What’s not to love?
Last we saw our OB/GYN heroine, she found out her boyfriend Josh was two-timing her. When she discovered this at her Christmas party, all hell and hilarious mayhem ensued. With a new year upon her, Mindy, like most of us, decides it’s time to start anew. She enrolls for a “beginners” aerobic class and has an encounter with a potential new love interest in the elevator. Not as cute as Josh, but it’s a rebound guy so it really doesn’t matter ;)
Kaling isn’t the only one trying to spice things up. On the Tuesday, January 8 episode we meet Mindy’s brother for the first time. He’s currently in college, but informs big sis that he wants to drop out and pursue a rap career. LOL. Obviously, this will freak out Mindy. Check out the recently released promo for the episode titled “Mindy’s Brother” below.
Hot damn, I think I found my pick of the season and we’re only two episodes in. As much-talked-about new series like Revolution, The Mob Doctor and Partners blow it IMO despite bigger star names and budgets in their cast/crew/creatorship records, the little comedic engine(/ingenue) that could- The Mindy Project staring Mindy Kaling- is absolutely killing it. I know we’re very, very early in the season (literally episode 2 for most of the new shows), but that’s how this game of television is played and most don’t get a second, third or fourth chance to survive the ever-daunting chop block. Just like the exec big wigs, I’m a split-decision guy and I’m ready to announce that as of last night’s episode, The Mindy Project is the one to watch.
My original review of the premiere of this puppy was all thumbs up athat one of my favorite characters of the iconic US take on The Office was starting up her own show with her unique brand of 20/30-something female humour. Without re-hashing the themes and motive of the show (again, check out my original article for those deets), I will focus on this newest episode as post pilot we get a slightly less boy-crazy and desperate Mindy with a bit more wit and backbone which is heavily welcomed, offering us a protagonist with a relatable perspective and purpose. She is the smart, sassy everywoman of today. And, she’s f-ing hilarious as hell while being her.
Mindy Kaling as the nosy and oh-so Forever 21 wearing and acting office gossip from NBC’s The Office is returning to TV in her own venture just as The Office comes to a close after 9 seasons this year. Not just the provider of some the BEST moments from this iconic and brit-ripped show, this talented chica was recently promoted to full exec producer of The Office and has in fact written 22 of the show’s episodes. Further, her collection of anecdotes and humourous life-based essays in Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? has proven her to be not just full of acting brawn but hilarious brain as well.
So, when I heard from Donovan’s article that she was starting up her own show called The Mindy Project, I was on-board and couldn’t wait to see what we were in store for. After some searching (it’s accessible on Fox’s website as they attempt to garner viewer interest), I was able to find an advance copy of the pilot of the show and had to tell my fellow mo’s about it. I will do my best not to spoiler but let’s be honest: it’s a comedy and I’m hardly explaining the origins of the island from Lost. So, click through to access the accurate trailer for The Mindy Project airing September 25th at 9:30PM Eastern Time and regularly Tuesdays this Fall.
One of the first romantic comedies of 2011 is hitting theatres this Friday and I got to check it out a few days early. By myself. It was a weird experience seeing a movie solo, in a packed theatre surrounded by strangers. My boisterous laugh definitely has a definitive resonating sound which is much more embarrassing when you have no one to turn and blame! But that’s beside the point.
The movie I checked out was hilar-balls, with a sexual twist! The new-age rom-com, No Strings Attached stars my girl and soon-to-be Academy Award winner, Natalie Portman, and Bruce Willis’ son, Ashton Kutcher.* Natalie plays protagonist, Emma, an emotionally closed girl who refuses to allow any man to get close to her for fear of getting hurt. It’s unrealistic to dream anyone can go through life not feeling or allowing themselves to be loved, but Portman’s character was determined to die trying. Kutcher, naturally, played the male lead, Adam, a desperate and hopeless romantic. The flip-character story line of hard woman and soft man was the perfect switch from your typical rom-com plot.
It wouldn’t be an awards show if there weren’t a few fashion disasters (or disastahs, as Beyonce would say) in the mix. Sometimes it’s better to be on the worst dressed list than to go unnoticed. Any press is good press, right?
During last night’s 62nd Emmy Awards, thankfully a few ladies made fashion mistakes, giving media an opportunity to trash and mock them the next day. While all the following ladies are gorgeous in their own right, the list just clearly illustrates what happens, when ugly clothes happen to good people. Let me know if you agree with my list of the 2010 Emmys’ worst fashion offenders.
The 24-year-old “Glee” star was the furthest thing from elegant on Emmy night. This Carolina Herrera dress looked more like a tablecloth reject than haute couture. Even with the $140,000 Cartier diamonds, Dianna looked like Scarlett O’Hara’s daughter in a “Gone With The Wind” skit on The Carol Burnett Show. Trust me, that’s not a good thing.
