Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Debuts First Trailer

In: Donovan, Movies
teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-trailer

These aren’t your father’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In true Michael Bay fashion, Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello have been souped up and bigger than ever. The foursome look like they’ve done numerous steroid cycles. They’re seriously jacked. However, they still seem to maintain their loveable personalities. At least from the brief glimpse we hear them talk in the first trailer.

Paramount Pictures just released the first look at the upcoming film. With a lackluster career on her hands, Megan Fox came crawling back to Bay and apologized for her unkind words in the past. I’m glad she did because I totally buy her as April O’Neil.

Rounding out the cast are Alan Ritchson, Will Arnett and William Fichtner who plays the evil Shredder. Check out the trailer below. The film is scheduled to be released on August 8, 2014.

Movie Synopsis

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

Michael Bay Casts His Ninja Turtles

In: Donovan, Movies

Who doesn’t have a favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle? I’m certain at some point, we’ve all watched these beloved characters growing up. I certainly did. Obviously, I’m excited for Michael Bay’s reboot of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film series from the early 1990s. The Jonathan Liebesman-directed flick find the mutated reptile warriors defending the world from invading aliens. Ninja Turtles began production this month in New York and is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters sometime in 2014.

Until recently, Megan Fox was the only actor attached to the project. The 26-year-old actress snagged the role of April O’Neil- a good friend of the Turtles. If you recall, Fox publicly said a few not so choice words about Bay while working with him during the Transformers films. As a result, she was replaced in the third film by Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. With Megan’s career going nowhere fast, she allegedly groveled back to the action producer to make amends. Looks like it worked. Find out who’ll be joining Fox in the film below.

When I was a kid, I loved watching the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – both in cartoon, and the live action movie… “Ninja, ninja rap.. go, go, go, go!” For some time now, there’s been talk of Michael Bay’s plans to make a live action film of the Ninja Turtles. Now some casting news has been revealed that I’m not sure how I feel about.

As you know, April O’Neil is a character in the series that was a former lab assistant to the mad scientist Baxter Stockman and later a reporter that is a close companion and friend of the turtles. The actress cast as the yellow jumpsuit wearing reporter has been revealed and I’m somewhat puzzled by the choice.

According to Variety, some of the actresses that were being considered included Jane Levy, Anna Kendrick and Elizabeth Olsen. Any of those would have been a better choice than who ended up getting the part.

The second I saw paparazzi pics of Mark Whalberg in his undies while filming Pain & Gain, I knew I had to check out this film. The 41-year-old actor reportedly spent two months intensively training before shooting. Job well done. Clearly, I’m not the only one impressed with Wahlberg’s new buff physique. Director Michael Bay who directed the flick, hired him again. This time to take over the Transformers franchise.

Besides the allure of Mark all beefed up, the film also stars the hilarious duo of Ken Jeong and Rebel Wilson. Adding even more muscle is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. In the film, Wahlberg and The Rock play Miami bodybuilders who get involved with extortion, kidnapping, and murder. Believe it or not, the film is based on real life events. In fact, Mark’s character received a death sentence and currently sits on Florida’s death row. Check out the upcoming action comedy’s first trailer below.

Transformers 4 Finds Its New Leading Man

In: Donovan, Movies

At first Michael Bay denied it, but it appears rumors were true after all. The producer confirmed what people were speculating. What a difference a week makes. Transformers 4 revolves around a new cast of characters (so long Shia Labeouf) and will be a much darker sequel to Transformers: Dark of the Moon. With Labeouf out, Bay was on the hunt for a new leading man to save humanity from the evil Megatron and his army. Find out who below. Side note, how wicked is the new logo incorporating half of the Decepticon insignia? That alone makes me want to revisit the franchise, plus the fact this actor is on board.

In contrast to the Celebrity 100 list which rates celebrities based on fame and how much they earned, this new list is strictly based on how much they earn and there are some surprises.

What is not is a surprise is that Oprah Winfrey tops the list. Forbes estimates that between May 2011 and May 2012, she earned $165 million. This is the fourth year in a row that she has topped this list. Number five is one that I didn’t see coming, but after reading where the money came from, it totally made sense. Dr. Dre brought in a whopping $130 million, but not from the recording industry. He made the money from his Beats by Dr. Dre headphones because last August, handset maker HTC paid $300 million for a 51% stake in the company, resulting in pretty much most of that $130 million for Dre says Forbes. Check out the Top 20 below and how much they each made. I’ve also included a video from Forbes commenting on the Top 5 of the list. Britney Spears made the list too!

This weekend, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon dominated the box office. However, a few fans of the Michael Bay film couldn’t help but notice that some of the footage may have been recycled. Bay directed and produced the 2005, The Island which starred Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson and it appears as though some of the footage used in the film may have found it’s way into the latest film in the Transformers trilogy.

One of the most recognizable action sequences from the film is when Lincoln Six Echo and Jordan Two Delta escape from the compound and all of that crazy stuff happens on the freeway. Thanks to the power of YouTube and video editing, someone has posted a video comparing the two action sequences. While some shots within the sequence are different, there is no doubt that some of the shots are exactly the same. Do you think it was a copout or a way to keep costs low in post-production. Watch the video below and sound off in the comments.

I was fortunate enough to see a sneak preview of one of this summer’s biggest blockbuster, romantic comedies, Transformers 3 – Dark of the Moon in 3D. No seriously, this movie is the perfect flick for the girls to check out for a ‘girls night out’ this weekend! The movie is hitting theatres on Friday, July 1st and if you had any doubt about whether you should see it in theatres, you must! The incredible love story that plays out throughout the plot of this film, between the two lead characters, Sam Witwicky played by Shia LaBeouf and Carly played by Victoria Secret Angel, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley had me on the end of my seat, giggling with laughter and rife with emotion. Shia LaBeouf’s ability to cry in this film and show his vulnerable side was absolutely breath taking, and dare I say, Oscar-worthy. Rosie’s breakout film roll in Director Michael Bay’s third rendition of this tragic, war-riddled romance was poetic and riveting. The 3D visuals further added to the depth of this film.

Okay, okay, okay. If you couldn’t tell I was being factious with that opening paragraph, then you don’t know my sense of humor! It’s true, I did in fact go to see Michael Bay’s Transformers 3 – Dark of the Moon, and it does in fact star those two actors, it is my no means a romantic comedy for the ages. There is a love story, with some incredible wit; however, I can’t say this summer blockbuster will live up to its previous two predecessors. The film once again focuses on the continue war between the Autobots and Decepticons, this time focusing on a Cybertronian spacecraft that has crashed on Earth’s moon, and holds a critical piece to saving their home planet of Cybertron. Now, if you are a Transformer fanatic, you probably just got a chubby from those words. I on the other hand didn’t play with the action figures, but was extremely impressed with the entertainment value of this film. I went in with an open mind, after enjoying the first Transformers flick from a few years back. The flow of the movie was fast paced, and the fight scenes between the transforming cars/machines were beautifully done and wildly realistic. Granted, I knew I was watching machines that had just transformed into warriors from different Ford vehicles, so the realism could only stretch so far!
