When Donovan asked me to go see Magic Mike I’ll admit I had my reservations. As much as I love nearly naked men as much as the next gay, I didn’t really think there could possibly be a movie with this much hip thrusting and sweaty men that I would want to be watching in public. Fortunately, what I expected to have me asking for my dollar bills back at the end of the night turned out to be a highly entertaining movie with a gratifying storyline, semi-solid cast, and throbbing beats that made me want to get out of my seat and take my clothes off… almost.
Channing Tatum stars in this film, which is loosely based on his experience as a stripper after dropping out of high school. In this version of the story, Alex Pettyfer (Beastly, I Am Number Four) stars as the young kid Adam, while Tatum portrays the 30-something male stripper and titular character Mike. The two meet while working on a contruction site and while hesitant at first, Mike takes the kid under his wings and introduces him to the highly profitable world of male stripping.
Shortly after being thrust on stage, and awkwardly removing his clothes to “Like a Virgin” while high on GHB, Adam is thrown into full rotation at Xquisite, the local male strip club. He begins taking lessons from Dallas , the club’s owner, emcee and former stripper who is played by Matthew McConaughey. Adam soon learns how to twist, pump, thrust and gyrate his way to that next dollar. He is soon deep in a world where the money, drugs, and women come quicker and faster than you did your first time *wink*.
“Magic Mike” finally opens up tomorrow, but I was lucky enough to check out a screening a couple of days early along with Matt. Be sure to check out his movie review tomorrow. Surprisingly, the movie wasn’t nearly the trainwreck I thought it was going to be. Thankfully, they didn’t delve too much into Channing Tatum’s heinous custom furniture creations. Sadly though, the love story was still annoying and could’ve been cut. Actress Cody Horn’s laugh is probably the most annoying and fakest I’ve seen in a long time.
With that said, “Magic Mike” is actually getting pretty decent reviews from major publications. Entertainment Weekly gave it an A-. WOW. While, I wouldn’t rate it that high, I would definitely give the men of “Magic Mike” a Prime Grade “A” Beef rating. As expected, Tatum and company didn’t disappoint when it came to showing off their abs, pecs and asses. Yup, there’s enough ass jiggling to make you all happy. Obviously, I was definitely horned up after the screening, which brings me to this post.
I thought I’d rank the men of “Magic Mike” based on their performance in the film. That’s right, the following rankings have nothing to do with who I think is the hottest in “normal” life. If that were the case, that gorgeous stud Matt Bomer would easily take the cake. Instead, it’s based on how they worked their assets on stage. Check out how these boys stack up against each other below.
Here’s a little Friday eye candy to get you revved up for the weekend. Warner Bros. just released a whackload of new images from “Magic Mike“, opening on June 29. As expected, the studio is pimping out its hot male cast hardcore in the final weeks of promotion. They’re parading them in hopes of luring your hard-earned dollars come opening day. I’m sure these nineteen new pics will do the trick ;)
For once, the studio has focussed on some of the other talented and sexy supporting players, instead of Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello and Alex Pettyfer (not that I’m complaining). We finally get to see shirtless shots of Adam Rodriguez in costume and more importantly out of it. Shots of Matt Bomer dressed up in military attire and sexy doctor scrubs are also included. In addition, we get glimpses of the guys off stage as well. Channing and Pettyfer go thong shopping, while Matthew McConaughey works out with the new kid. Check out all the new pics below. Happy Friday.
Now, THIS is the trailer the movie studio should’ve released first instead of that schmaltzy sad excuse of a romantic comedy they were trying to push. No one wants to see a movie about a struggling furniture designer by day who strips for money only to fall in love with his best friend’s sister. Sounds horrible, right? Well, that’s what the first trailer was all about. It looked like a poor man’s “Striptease” and that’s putting it nicely.
Thankfully, someone kicked some sense into the studio execs and informed them what the public really wants to see- pecs, abs and thongs. That’s right, we want to see some hot men stripping. And the more the merrier.
In the newly-released trailer, all signs of that aforementioned love story is nowhere to be seen. Instead, we have most of the cast revealing their “assets” on stage. From military fatigues, cowboy outfits, doctor scrubs, we finally see what costumes Channing Tatum, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer and Matt Bomer wear on stage. Even if it’s for a fleeting moment. Those outfits couldn’t hit the floor faster if you ask me. Check out the new and improved trailer below. The Chippendales have nothing on them.
On June 29, Magic Mike will take it all off and hit theatres to I’m sure, crowds of antsy women and gay men foaming at the mouth to see the sexy cast of men take it (almost) all off. To help celebrate the films upcoming summer release, Entertainment Weekly has created not only one, but two covers. The main cover shows a very sexy Channing about to take off his shirt but when you open the flaps, it reveals cast members Joe Manganiello, Matt Bomer and Matthew McConaughey alongside Channing with the quick tagline, “It’s raining men from Magic Mike.”
In the encompassing article, the boys reveal some behind-the-scenes secrets from the filming of the upcoming stripper film. After the photo shoot, EW took the four cast members out for a boozy dinner where they dished about the movie, the dance sequences and the time where the female extras/fans weighed down Matthew’s thong so much that it actually came off. You can read more about that after the jump. Check out both EW covers below and grab the latest edition of the mag when it hits stands and digital notebooks and tablets on May 18.
June 29th is fast approaching, which means we’re getting oh so close to seeing all the man candy in “Magic Mike“. To satisfy all the movie’s fans *cough* the gays *cough*, Warner Bros is teasing us with a couple new movie stills. The first one is of Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey shown above. The second one features Matt Bomer, Adam Rodriguez, Joe Manganiello and Tatum doing their thang on stage. See which of the boys is in their shirtless glory below.
“Magic Mike” is a dramedy set in the world of male strippers, for those of you who don’t know the movie’s premise. Directed by Steven Soderbergh (Traffic), it is loosely based on Channing’s real life stripping past. In the film, Mike (Tatum) takes on a younger dancer called The Kid (Alex Pettyfer) as his protege. He schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money. I really hope the film doesn’t become the male version of Demi Moore’s disastrous stripper movie, “Striptease“. That was no bueno. It wasn’t even bad enough to be a guilty pleasure like “Showgirls“.
You would think Matt Bomer’s upcoming guest appearance on “Glee” is like the second coming of Jesus, considering the number of posts we write about it. He does have that silky dark hair though. LOL. To be fair, it’s just not Bomer I’m excited about, but the fact we get eight straight new episodes of the Fox musical when it returns. Plus, like most of you, I’m curious to know if the writers killed of Quinn.
Up to this point, we’ve seen backstage footage of Matt Bomer and even seen one of his duets with Darren Criss. The two cover Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know“. Given that the episode is titled “Big Brother“, we simply can’t be treated to just one duet. It is Matt Bomer after all. The one I’ve been looking forward to hearing the most since I first learned about it, is the Duran Duran mashup. After hearing it, I have to say it was worth the wait. The two belt out the 80s classics “Rio” and “Hungry Like The Wolf“.
If that wasn’t enough music for you, the familial drama continues with an emotional solo by Darren Criss. His character Blaine really goes to town on Christina Aguilera’s first foray into rock music, “Fighter“. It’s definitely one of my favorite tracks ever from Xtina. Criss does a solid job on the angst-ridden track. Check out “Fighter” and the Duran Duran mashup below, before the powers-that-be take down the YouTube audio.
On April 10, Glee will make a triumphant return and it just so happens that this will also be the episode in which Matt Bomer makes his guest appearance as Blaine’s older brother, Cooper Anderson. Bomer’s character is a famous Hollywood face and some of the kids at McKinley High get a little star struck. To make things even more exciting, Matt and Darren don’t only sing one song but have two whole duets for our viewing pleasure. Matt elaborates:
“The Duran Duran was just fun pop and it was great to get to dance and interact and use the whole one-upmanship of all that,” Bomer told Entertainment Weekly. “But to me, I love the Gotye song because it’s so actable and so immediate and so inherently dramatic.
For Glee to choose Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used Know” is genius. The hit FOX show tends to help smaller artists hit it big on the Billboard Chart and this track is sure to be next in line. During the duet, we are flashed back to Blaine & Cooper as kids and we see Cooper pick on Blaine and the like. I can’t wait to find out how the song works in its full context. Check out the boys’ duet below.
