Listen To Every Song From Glee’s Diva Episode

In: Donovan, TV Shows

If Thursday’s Glee episode is anything like that wicked Beyonce-Off Ryan Murphy leaked last week, it’s going to be beyond divalicious. With covers of Madonna, Alicia Keys, Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner and Beyonce on deck, the episode is appropriately titled, “Diva.” I can’t wait. Personally, I think the fourth season of the FOX musical is its best one since the first season. I like the mix of the old and new crew, plus the musical performances have been on point.

In addition to the cast battling it out to be top Diva, the episode finds Santana (Naya Rivera) returning back to Lima to sing three numbers. When she finds out that Brittany (Heather Morris) and Sam (Chord Overstreet) are now dating, she decides to cause problems for the new couple. She even challenges Sam on a sing-off on Barbra Streisand’s “Make No Mistake, She’s Mine.”

Check out that duet below along with all the performances for Glee‘s upcoming episode. Once again, Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) gets another solo. Miss Tina Cohen-Chang has certainly been blessed with more vocal responsibility this season. I wonder what she did to get in the producers’ good graces.

Rolling Stone conducted a poll on their site as to who readers thought put on The Greatest Super Bowl Halftime Show and the result was Madonna‘s spectacular 2012 performance. The Queen incorporated Cee Lo Green, LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and even acrobats into her elaborate show. The next day, tickets for her world tour went on sale and then sold out everywhere.

This year, Beyonce is taking the lead for the Super Bowl Halftime show and I’m certainly not worried about her delivering. She’s going to kill it I’m sure – the only thing I’m eager to know is who else is going to be involved. Is Justin Timberlake actually going to be taking the stage with her? Will all three Destiny’s Child members reunite on stage for some of their greatest hits? Can you imagine if Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Azealia Banks performed their upcoming “Rachet” song? Insanity.

After a widely acclaimed collaboration for the NFL’s Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show, Madonna invited Moment Factory (based in Montreal) to create multimedia content for her new MDNA world tour. They had four months to develop concepts, create designs and produce multimedia content for 12 songs. Now that the tour has wrapped up, Moment Factory has released a behind the scenes look at the “making of” all of those visuals. It’s pretty fascinating!

The process involved full 2D and 3D animation production, multiple video shoots in India, New York and Montreal. The visuals had to compliment the song and choreography and really intensify the story, drama and emotion of each song. The main stage surface contained 36 cubes, all motorized and covered with LEDs, which were raised and lowered during the performance to create a constantly evolving visual environment. Some examples of the final products include: “Girl Gone Wild” in a photorealistic 3D cathedral; “I’m A Sinner” goes on a kaleidoscopic train trip through India; and the final number, “Celebration,” is an explosion of shape, colour and movement that pushes the LED cubes to their limits.

Every step in the production process was carried out in close collaboration with Madonna and her team, including show director Michel Laprise of Cirque du Soleil, set designer Mark Fisher, lighting designer Al Gurdon, production manager Jake Berry, video technical director Stefaan Desmedt and choreographers Rich + Tone. Watch the fascinating video below!

Madonna’s MDNA tour tops Billboard’s list of the best tours of 25, grossing the most money with $228,406,085 in ticket sales, with a total of 72/72 sold out shows and 1,635,176 people in attendance.

This week, her tour brought her to Chile where she was angered by fans who were smoking cigarettes. This totally brings me back to when Britney Spears was performing her Circus tour here in Vancouver and the same thing happened. The lights came on and woman’s voice warned that crowd that if the smoking (weed in this case) didn’t stop, Britney would not perform.

In Madonna’s case, she made the announcement herself. “There’s people smoking right now. No Smoking! Where are they smoking? If you’re gonna smoke cigarettes, I’m not doing a show, she warned. “You don’t care about me, I don’t care about you. Alright, are we gonna play that game? I’m not kidding. I can’t sing if you smoke. Entiendes? If you love me then don’t smoke. No smoking! You’re looking right at me while you’re smoking cigarettes like I’m a stupid f*cking idiot.” Watch the video below.

2012 VH1 Divas Live Concert: My 5 Favorite Moments

In: Donovan, Music

I have to admit when I first heard what initial acts were headlining this year’s VH1 Divas Live concert, I was a tad underwhelmed. Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus and Ciara? I rest my case. To be fair, each lady has a respectable recording career, but their names just don’t pop up when I think of the annual VH1 fundraiser. The trio aside, I found myself pleasantly surprised by last night’s show.

The telecast kicked off with a cute clip of Adam Lambert trying to unleash his inner diva. With the help of Real Housewives of Atlanta star Nene Leakes and American Idol’s Paula Abdul, Lambert successfully found it and worked it throughout the concert. Correction, most of the night he did. The Madonna “Ray of Light” homage was a bit of a trainwreck. From the outfit to the sound, it just seemed a little off. Thankfully, his David Bowie “Let’s Dance” and group performance with Kelly Rowland and Keri Hilson rocked.

Another mild disappointment was Kelly Clarkson. While she was vocally pitch perfect as usual, I was a little bummed she didn’t perform a cover. The recently-engaged singer was there to promote her song, “Catch My Breath“, and not pay tribute to dance music. Demi Lovato also just sang from her catalogue. Even Miley Cyrus got in the spirit and performed Billy Idol’s “Rebel Yell“. Clarkson could’ve also done a medley like Ciara who paid homage to Michael Jackson before segueing into her own track. Check out my five favorite moments from last night’s show, along with my two least favorite.

While Barbara Walters picks the Most Fascinating People of 2012, GQ magazine is taking a very different approach for their year end who’s who list. Rather than highlight people who have made huge accomplishments in the past year, the publication picked 25 individuals who were so uninspiring the magazine wants to “stick them on an iceberg.” Way harsh ;)

Who the biggest offender in their eyes? Failed presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, of course. The Republican lands atop GQ’s “Least Influential People” of 2012. The magazine’s social commentators declared voting for him was so uninspiring it was “like hooking up with the last single person at the bar at 4am.” OUCH. To be politically fair, the Democrats also landed on the list. First lady, Michelle Obama ranked No. 7 for failing to motivate Americans to eat healthier. Apparently, the majority are still obese mofos. LOL.

Who else made the cut? From celebrities to athletes to political leaders, no one was safe from their biting commentaries. I’ve picked a few of my favorite blurbs from GQ’s list. Check them out.

The second Madonna named her Truth or Dare fragrance “Naked“, you knew an ad campaign like this was on its way. The 54-year-old music icon has made a career of pushing the envelope using her sexuality at the forefront. And once again, Madge uses this tactic to pimp out her new fragrance by posing topless with a strategically placed “Naked” sign covering her breasts. There’s no denying, Madonna’s body looks fantastic for her age, but is letting it all hang out a clever tactic or a sign of desperation.

“My oldest memory of my mother is her perfume. I carry it with me everywhere. She always smelled like Gardenias and Tuberose. An intoxicating mixture — feminine and mysterious.” – Madonna

Madonna will also be launching a range of lingerie, footwear and handbags under the Truth or Dare brand. Can we expect her other campaigns to feature her topless with a handbag or pair of shoes covering her boobies? I hope not.

Let me just preface this by saying that I’m a huge Madonna fan. Even though I’m not as hardcore as I once was, I give respect where respect is due. Personally, I think all the attacks against her are a tad unwarranted, given her impact on pop culture. That said, I’m not sure if I approve of this ad campaign, as stunningly photoshopped as it is ;) Personally, I think she could’ve achieved a similar visual but in a more mysterious, classier way and definitely more age-appropriate way. Check out the full ad below and see how you feel.

A few days ago, the DC Gay Flag Football league did a parody of Gangnam Style, complete choreography, sexy guys, and their own modified lyrics. I hadn’t got around to sharing with you yet, but since Madonna just surprised fans at her New York concert with a performance with Psy, I thought why not kill two birds with one stone. Besides, Madonna + Gay Parody seems to go together anyway.

In Madonna’s performance of “Gangnam Style” with Psy, she does all the choreography with him and gets really into it, even getting down on her hangs & knees for Psy to faux ride her, as the choreography warrants. They even reversed it, with Madonna riding Psy as well!

Yes, I know… “Gangnam Style” just keeps happening everywhere and with Glee taking it on in an episode later this month, it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down any time soon. Check out the videos below.
