From Roman history to Greek mythology, Liam McIntyre sure loves keeping it old school. The 31-year-old actor is set to appear in the big budget take on the Greek demigod Hercules. The $70 million film directed by Renny Harlin is set to begin filming May in Bulgaria. Harlin had nothing but kind words for his newest castmember.

“He’s infinitely entertaining to watch. I am lucky to have him play military commander, Sotiris, Hercules’ best friend. Their relationship begins antagonistic and develops into a close bond, forged in battle.” – Renny Harlin

McIntyre joins Kellan Lutz who plays the titular character in the film. This will mark Liam’s first Hollywood feature role. The Aussie has previously appeared in TV series (Spartacus) and short films.

Since I wrote about Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe hanging out in a hot tub together earlier today, I felt this was a perfect complement to that post. Director TJ Scott who’s previously worked on Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and pretty much any episodic show filmed in New Zealand, is utilizing his creative eye to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Scott is in the midst of completing a coffee table photo book titled In The Tub with proceeds going to the charity. Given that Spartacus is filmed in New Zealand, a lot of his celebrity subjects are stars from the Starz show. Not to say the photos are exclusive to that drama. Former JAG star David James Elliott and Dallas‘ J.R. Ewing himself (Larry Hagman) are a couple of other stars that pop up in the photo series. Check out a few photos below. Obviously, I limited my choices to the men. We are Homorazzi.com after all ;)

Man Crush: Liam McIntyre

In: Donovan, TV Shows

In honor of the premiere of “Spartacus: Vengeance” this Friday, January 27 on Starz, I thought I’d dedicate my weekly Man Crush on the show’s leading man. When Andy Whitfield lost his 18-month battle with lymphoma, the fate of the gladiator show was in limbo. After some time, the network announced it was forging ahead and would recast the role of Spartacus. A few names were thrown around, but in the end Australian actor Liam McIntyre beat the competition and won the coveted role. Judging by early reviews on the premiere episode, Liam has proven a worthy successor.

The 29-year-old actor went through a rigorous workout regime to buff up for the role. Considering the role requires plenty of shirtless scenes, that was a wise move by both the producers and actor. Prior to taking the iconic role of the Thracian warrior, McIntyre was mostly unknown to North American audiences until his role on the HBO mini-series “The Pacific“. That said, the sexy stud was popular in his native country due to his roles on popular Aussie shows like “Rush” and “Neighbours“.

Before checking out “Spartacus: Vengeance” this Friday, be sure to conduct your due diligence and inspect the hotness that is Liam McIntyre. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you the following pictorial exhibits to prove Liam’s crushworthiness. Enjoy.

The amazing Starz original series, ‘Spartacus’ returns on January 27 in epic fashion with “Spartacus: Vengeance“. Expect more of all the blood-soaked action, exotic sexuality, and villainy and heroism that has come to distinguish the series. Here’s where the series picks up:

“On the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus that concluded “Spartacus: Blood and Sand“, the gladiator rebellion continues and begins to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic in “Spartacus: Vengeance“. Gaius Claudius Glaber and his Roman troops are sent to Capua to crush the growing band of freed slaves that Spartacus leads before it can inflict further damage. Spartacus is presented the choice of satisfying his personal need for vengeance against the man that condemned his wife to slavery and eventual death or making the larger sacrifices necessary to keep his budding army from breaking apart.”

Definitely watch the series to see what all the buzz is about. With incredible storyline and eye candy every where you look, there’s no reason not to watch. After Andy Whitfield unfortunately lost his battle to cancer this summer, the role of Spartacus will continue to be played by the sexy Liam McIntyre. The series also stars Manu Bennett, Dustin Clare, Lucy Lawless, and Peter Mensah. Check out the preview of “Spartacus: Vengeance” above and click here for more info on the series. Watch ‘Spartacus: Vengeance’ on Fridays at 10pm E/P on Starz starting January 27.

Meet The New Star of Spartacus: Blood and Sand

In: Donovan, TV Shows

In a match-up worthy of a gladiator battle during Roman times, Liam McIntyre has slaughtered the competition and is the sole man standing. After months of searching, Starz’s cult-hit, “Spartacus: Blood and Sand“, has finally found a new leading man. McIntyre will play the fierce Thracian warrior, Spartacus, and take over for Andy Whitfield who is currently in the midst of battling cancer.

“Since no one can really replace Andy, we realized that we should instead find an actor who can truly lead Spartacus forward… It was important to us to have Andy endorse the idea of recasting this part, which he did in the same heroic manner that he’s dealt with his whole ordeal. And that, coupled with our fortune in finding a young actor with the gladiator credentials and the acting ability of Liam, makes it easier for us to keep this hit franchise going.” – Starz president and CEO Chris Albrecht

That’s awesome that Andy Whitfield gave his blessing to his successor. Hopefully he’ll be able to beat the deadly disease and make a cameo, later on in the series. When the cancer returned, forcing Whitfield to depart the series, the series’ fate was up in the air. After a lengthy deliberation, Starz decided to forge ahead and re-cast the lead. I’m sure the fact “Spartacus: Blood and Sand’s” premiere was the most-watched show in the network’s history helped in the decision.
