With Pope Benedict XVI having stepped down in his role as leader of the Catholic Church (the first time anyone has done that in hundeds of years), it’s time for the Vatican to pick a new Pope… which can be a very complicated process.
“MEMO TO ROMAN CATHOLIC CARDINALS: It’s time to lock the doors, lower the blinds, fire up the smoke machine — and pick a pope, girls!” America’s Best Christian, Mrs. Betty Bowers, goes behind the scenes at the Vatican to reveal for the first time how new popes are actually selected.
Watch the funny video below to get a glimpse inside this never before seen process. Who knew that picking a new pope could be so much fun!
Just short and sweet, I find it a fine line between artistic integrity, videos that were on repeat at friends’ (Donovan‘s) house, and things that just made me happy despite popular concensus when considering what makes my list. But covering and considering all those bases, here we go. Agree or disagree, here were some great visuals to great songs this year that made it 2012 for me, and maybe you, but mostly me.
Love it or hate it, over a billion hits on YouTube can’t be wrong. We may never want to hear it again, but it will definitely, always remind me of 2012. Two words: Invisible. Horse.
Hands down BEST.GLEE.MASHUP.PERFORMANCE.EVER!!! If you think I’m exaggerating, clearly you’re not a musical loving homo. This was the gayest thing I’ve ever seen on the show… and that’s saying a lot. Adding even more gay mojo was a cameo by RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 2 & 3 contestant Shangela.
FOX hyped Glee’s Thanksgiving episode for New Directions’ sectionals performance of “Gangnam” style and the return of Dianna Agron (Quinn). While all entertaining in their own right, the episode was all about Blaine and Rachel’s orphans Thanksgiving dinner in Bushwick, Brooklyn with Brody and Sarah Jessica Parker’s Isabelle Wright. PS. I actually missed Quinn. That bitch slap between Santana and her was EPIC.
The second SJP stepped out of the subway saying “Oooh, she’s been a bitch tonight,” I literally SQUEALED. No lie. I had no idea the show was going to cover Scissor Sisters’ summer jam “Let’s Have A Kiki“. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, halfway through the song, Rachel belts out “Turkey Lurkey Time” from the 1968 Broadway musical, Promises, Promises. At this point, I was practically jizzing all over the place. I was in heaven. I rewound the performance a couple of times, and by a couple I mean numerous.
Check out the mashup performance below. I also embedded a performance of “Turkey Lurkey Time” from the Tony Awards show. You simply have to watch it. The woman in the center with the short hair is frickin’ amazing. Girlfriend gives it her all and then some.
Well apparently September 4th was the day of the KAI KAI! If you don’t know what a Kai Kai is…well we’ll get to that in a second.
After the hugely successful gay anthem of 2012 “Let’s Have a Kiki” was released, everyone and their dog has done a cover or a parody of it. I myself am not really one for parodies but after I heard/saw these two I starting to rethink my position on them. The first is done by parody legend Lady Bunny who stars on RuPaul’s Drag U and is the founder of Wigstock.
The second, and my favorite parody probably ever features Drag Race star Willam and one of my absolutely all time FAVORITE queens Rhea Litre. Seriously, if you don’t know Rhea you need to get into it #aweyeah. I have no idea WHY she hasn’t cast on Drag Race yet but this bitch is TALENTED! The pairing of Willam and Rhea is pretty genius I must say. Also featured in this video is Chi Chi Larue and I BELIEVE Hector Xtravaganza…I’m almost 100% certain. Its incredible and definitely my favourite parody of the song.
BUT WHAT IS A KAI KAI you’re still asking…well I’ll let the videos show you. ENJOY!
I’d certainly consider “Let’s Have A Kiki” by Scissor Sisters to be one of the summer songs of sorts this year and I love how the it keeps getting reinvented. From the epic montage video video to the instructional music video to all of the awesome remixes.
The latest goodie is a mashup with Madonna and her hit song “Vogue“. Coincidentally, it was only a few days ago that I wrote about the boy who, back in 1992, performed to “Vogue” at his Bar Mitzvah. So awesome. Today, I saw this video posted on Facebook and I just had to share it with you. The way these two tracks blend together is “marvelous”.
So… “I hope you’re up girl….Cuz I know exactly what we need…” A Vogue/Kiki Mashup, of course! Enjoy!
If you have caught the Scissor Sisters during their current tour, you’ve probably become obsessed with the choreography behind their fabulous track, “Let’s Have a Kiki.” Featuring Ana Matronic and two fabulous backup singers, she lets the crowd have it with her cell phone banter before breaking into the incredible hook. Flanked by her two backup singers, Ana busts out into some simple, but effective choreo that has us all turned out. Wanna learn these sexy moves? Now you can.
In the new instructional video, Ana, backup dancers and Jake Shears show us all how it’s done while the lyrics bounce across the bottom of the screen like a karaoke machine. Now you can dance AND sing along. Be forewarned, you may not be able to peer away from Jake Shears’ crotch which is very highlighted by his football-style pants. Grab your heels, lock the doors and learn “how to kiki” below.
“Let’s Have A Kiki” has caught on as one of the catchiest and most fun songs of the summer in my opinion. Now, with four hot remixes of the Scissor Sisters track to share with you, you have even more reason to “lock the doors, fire up the smoke machine, and put on your heels”.
There are four very different remixes below done by four different DJs that include: Danny Verde, Almighty, 2 Bears and OLUGBENGA. Of the four, the Almighty remix is definitely my favorite, followed by the Danny Verde one. For something more chill and low key, the Olugbenga is great. Listen to all four below and let me know which one you like best.
It’s Thursday, which means the weekend is almost here and you can get your Kiki on! “Let’s Have A Kiki” is on the Scissor Sisters ‘Magic Hour‘ album which is available in stores or on iTunes.
We are weeks away from the release of the Scissor Sisters new album Magic Hour which hits stores on May 28. I personally cannot wait for this album to drop. I’ve been following the Sisters since they came out with their debut album in North America. So far, we’ve heard two tracks from the upcoming release. Both Shady Love and Only The Horses are very different in sound and style. Just wait for this new track.
In Let’s Have a Kiki, the group brings 90’s beats to the table in a major way. Right from the top with the spoken word, you know it’s going to be a major runway, drag superstar party anthem. What exactly is a kiki? As the song explains, “a kiki is a party/for calming all your nerves/We’re spilling tea and dishing just desserts when they deserve.” The shade of it all! This track became available on Spotify yesterday to stream. You can give it a listen below and make sure to tell us what you think!
