Who’s The Top-Earning Woman in Music For 2011?

In: Donovan, Music

Adele topped both Rolling Stone and Billboard’s year end charts. Rihanna reigned supreme on Facebook’s year end lists. While topping those lists are all well and good, everyone wants to be number one when it comes to earning bank. As Cuba Gooding Jr. said in “Jerry Maguire“… SHOW ME THE MONEY. Both Adele and Rihanna earned some decent moolah in 2011, but fell short compared to the Top 3 earning women in music. Check out what how much of your money these female superstars raked in.

10. Alicia Keys and Britney Spears ($10 million each)
9. Adele ($18 million)
8. Celine Dion ($19 million)
7. Carrie Underwood ($20 million)
6. Pink ($22 million)
5. Rihanna ($29 million)
4. Beyonce Knowles ($35 million)

Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” may have earned #1 honors on both Rolling Stone Magazine and Billboard Magazine’s 2011 year end lists, but the British songbird is barely hanging on to Facebook’s Memology 2011 list. Instead, it’s everyone’s favorite Bajan songstress, Rihanna that reigns supreme. The 23-year-old singer proved she’s tops when it comes to social networking site, Facebook. I must say that I’m a little surprised she beat out other more tech-savvy artists like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry or even Justin Beiber. Congrats to the “Disturbia” singer.

For Facebook’s year-end recap, Rihanna topped both its music lists. Firstly, the singer’s latest hit single, “We Found Love” earned the honor of being the most-listened song of the year on the Mark Zuckerberg-owned website. The other accolade Robyn Rihanna Fenty earned was that her Fan Page was deemed the fastest growing page of 2011. Facebook didn’t reveal how many new “likes” she received this year, but her total number of fans is at a whopping 47,000,000. See who RiRi beat out on both lists below. Some entries might surprise you. I know it did for me.

There is no denying that despite vocal complications and cancelling a few tour dates, Adele had an amazing 2011. She proved herself during countless live performances and with award nominations including a handful of Grammy nods. Now, Rolling Stone just made Adele’s life even sweeter by naming her track Rolling In The Deep the best single of 2011. In a list comprised of 50 tracks that were released this year, Adele topped the list of heavy hitters. Rolling Stone calls it “a breakup scorcher to beat all breakup scorchers.” Here’s more:

This is brokenhearted music that makes you feel like taking on the world – crackling with quiet menace in the intro, then slowly building to that gut-punch refrain of “We could have had it all!” How did such an old-school soul song dominate the charts next to Gaga and Katy Perry? Maybe it’s the hint of hip-hop venom you hear amid the blues-steeped storminess when Adele tells her ex-lover she’ll “lay your shit bare.” Maybe it’s that certain emotions – especially when channeled through a voice this powerful – will always seem timeless.

Adele isn’t the only female singer to hit the list. She joins the likes of Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé in the top ten alone. Check out a few more of Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Singles of 2011 below.

Get A First Look At Perez’s New Show

In: TV Shows, Tyrell

At the beginning of November, I informed you all about Perez Hilton’s new show titled Super Fan airing on the UK’s ITV2. The show is set to feature exclusive access and interviews with some of Perez’s closest friends including Katy Perry, Enrique Iglesias and Kelly Rowland. But one of the biggest names that Perez chats with and is the kick off to the show’s series is with none other than Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga.

In the new clip, Perez introduces the show and explains it’s premise before we see a multitude of clips from his debut episode with Lady Gaga. It’s no secret that the two are besties. They have been photographed together numerous times and Gaga even gave Perez an exclusive listen to her album way before it even dropped. In the preview, we see them cooking in the kitchen, back stage at shows and more. It’s sure to be an all-access ride into the lives of your favorite stars, so if you get ITV2 across the pond, I suggest you check it out.

I hope you have 14 minutes to spare, because that’s how long it will take for you to take in all that is Lady Gaga’s newest video for her single, Marry The Night. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from the video after watching the prelude and then getting a second teaser with her dancing all different from the leaked clips and pics of her in a black suit a top of a car. In true Gaga fashion, she brings it all together for one whole video that could be classified as a musical short film.

Directed by Lady Gaga herself and choreographed by Richard Jackson known to many as former Gaga choreographer Laurie-Ann Gibson’s assistant, the video takes us on a visual rollercoaster much like her You And I video did not too long ago. However, the video was to premiere exclusively on E! first. But, it leaked as music and their videos do nowadays. Here is what Gaga tweeted:

And…my video is now leaking like an old tampon. You know its bad when Haus of Gaga is downloading ILLEGAL video torrents on their cellphones. Thanks guys. Although I do appreciate that really sneaky monsters are flipping out :)

Our friends over at Idolator classified the video as “equal parts Black Swan, Girl Interrupted, All That Jazz, Fame, Stayin’ Alive and a psychotic Honey Nut Cheerios commercial.” I think it’s just really long. You should also be forewarned that Ms. Gaga goes naked for a few of the scenes so keep you eyes peeled or avert them… whichever strikes your fancy. Check out Gaga’s new opus below.

Check Out The 2012 Grammy Nods

In: Music, Tyrell

Last night, the Grammy’s held their Nominations Concert Live!! filled with performances from some of the year’s hottest acts. Among the showstopping numbers, the nominees were announced for the upcoming show taking place on February 12.

This year vying for the coveted Album of the Year are those pictured above: Adele, The Foo Fighters, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Rihanna. Am I crazy? Why isn’t Katy Perry on the list? Remember how she is breaking all kinds of records with Teenage Dream? (Thanks to reader Mitchell for informing me that it was nominated last year and lost.) Regardless, the nods in this category are pretty solid, but I think that Adele will take the trophy home in my opinion.

Another artist notably snubbed in all categories is Beyoncé who’s 4 didn’t even make the grade. However, her album version of Party is nominated and her I Am… World Tour received a nod for Best Long Form Music Video. Check out all the nominees in a list below.

The Most Bing’d Celeb of 2011 Is…

In: Celeb Gossip & News, Tyrell

Every year, Bing releases it’s list of the top searched celebrities through their search engine and the 2011 list has arrived (despite the fact that December hasn’t even happened yet). I thought I’d know who the celebrity would be in an instant and to my surprise, it was my second guess. Just to refresh you, here was last year’s list.

  • 1. Kim Kardashian
  • 2. Sandra Bullock
  • 3. Lady Gaga
  • 4. Tiger Woods
  • 5. Bararck Obama
  • 6. Justin Bieber
  • 7. Kate Gosselin
  • 8. Jesse James
  • 9. Jennifer Anistron
  • 10. Michael Jackson

This year, I thought for sure that Kim Kardashian would have retained her spot at #1 especially after all the drama surrounding her divorce to Kris Humphries. However, Ms. Kardashian fell short of the top spot and ended up only at #2. So, which famous face do people search for the most? Check it out below.
