Another day, another promo pic for Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP album. Once again, the photo was captured by Gaga’s frequent collaborators, Inez and Vinoodh. I can’t wait to hear the 27-year-old’s explanation for the prosthetic arm. It’s the second image that she’s incorporated the prop.
While I appreciate all the gorgeous artwork, I wish she followed a route similar to Katy Perry’s promotion for “Roar.” Those short snippet video promos from her are brill. What do you think of Gaga’s latest promo pic? Weight in below.
While Lady Gaga fans wait impatiently for August 19 to arrive to check out “Applause,” her little monsters were treated to an unexpected surprise courtesy of a leaked track on Monday. “Aura” (or “Burqa” depending on which report you read) is rumored to be a track from her upcoming ARTPOP album.
While there are parts of it that I enjoy, the guitar riffs specifically, “Aura” is a bit of a letdown IMHO. I much prefer “Posh Life” she wrote for TLC much better. I wasn’t expecting “Aura” to be a super catchy track, given I have a feeling she’s gonna go super experimental during her neo-Warholian phase. My biggest beef with the song is that she sounds too affected. At times, I thought I was listening to a long lost Nancy Sinatra song that someone finally unearthed.
I’m sure hardcore Gaga fans will disagree with me (I wouldn’t expect anything else). Fingers crossed “Applause” will be more commercial than this. In her defense, this leaked audio might not even be a finished product and just a rough demo. Give it a listen below and weigh in afterward.
The first Machete Kills trailer showed off Sofia Vergara’s killer tits (literally). That armed bustier of hers is extremely lethal. In the new clip, Vergara’s Double Ds are still packing heat, but Lady Gaga gets more screen time. She plays a gun-wielding character named La Chameleón. Joining her in the eclectic cast are Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen who’s billed as Carlos Estevez in the film. Someone’s trying to get in touch with his Hispanic roots.
Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federal agent Machete, who is recruited by the President of the United States (Charlie Sheen) for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer (Mel Gibson) who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet.
If you thought the first trailer was ridiculous, this new one is even more out there. I can’t wait. I’m always down for a good trashy exploitation flick. Check out the film’s second official trailer below. Machete Kills hits theaters on September 13, 2013.
After being relatively quiet for months, you just knew Lady Gaga was going to return with a big bang. Subtle isn’t exactly her middle name. In addition to unveiling yet another ARTPOP promo pic, the 27-year-old singer confirmed the title of her upcoming album’s lead single and debuted its cover art. “Applause” which was co-written with DJ White Shadow is an ode to Gaga’s relationship with her fans.
“In my heart of hearts as I was writing, I knew that if I asked [the fans] to cheer for me before I sang or if I alluded to the fact that they would cheer for me before I sang….They do that all the time for me; before I even open my mouth, the fans start cheering for me, so this exclamation.” – Lady Gaga
Once again, Gaga teamed up with frequent collaborators, photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for her latest photo shoot. Some have noticed the “Applause” cover art resembles David Bowie’s previous covers. If the resemblance is intentional, it wouldn’t be the first time she’s looked to Bowie for inspiration. Her lightning bolt eye makeup during her “Just Dance” phase was definitely an homage to him.
Apparently, Lady Gaga is allergic to clothing for her upcoming ARTPOP era. The 27-year-old singer is once again buck naked in promotional material for her upcoming album. This time around she’s sitting on a chair made completely from dismantled motherboards. That can’t be at all comfortable. All in the name of art I suppose. I’m sure the uncomfortable piece of furniture has a deeper meaning about technology and her “reverse Warholian expedition.” Her words not mine ;)
In other Gaga-related news, the “Poker Face” singer shared a 58-second clip titled “haus life” earlier this week. It shows Mother Monster lying on her back while a man pierces her septum with a rod. If watching nose piercings set to intense house music turns your crank, check out the video below.
It’s not an official single nor even her track, but at least we have new music from Lady Gaga. It’s better than nothing, right monsters? “Posh Life” was penned by the 27-year-old singer for TLC. The Dallas Austin-produced track is one of four new songs appearing on the girl group’s greatest hits compilation coming soon.
The track features Gaga’s impeccable piano work and has her singing in a much lower register. No doubt to try to match T-Boz’s gravely raspy voice. With regards to lyrics, it’s in line with TLC’s signature self-empowering mantra. Gaga definitely captures their essence. I can’t wait to hear T-Boz and Chilli’s produced version of “Posh Life.” In the meantime, give Gaga’s leaked demo a listen below.
Up until now, I’ve relatively ignored anything related with Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP album. I’ve been waiting for one big announcement to combine all her tidbits into one post. At long last, we have major news involving her upcoming LP being released on November 11.
MTV just revealed the 27-year-old singer is the first musical act booked for the 2013 MTV VMAs being held in Brooklyn for the first time on August 25. She’ll perform her brand new single, rumored to be titled “Applause.” Given Gaga’s colorful past on the VMAs (ie. gender bending “You & I” performance and her showstopping meat dress), I fully expect a memorable comeback.
Just in case you missed all of Gaga’s previous ARTPOP teases, I’ve posted them below. It includes a nearly-naked picture of Gaga by frequent collaborators, photographers Inez & Vinoodh, and a video clip of her licking her fingers. Riveting, right? Check them out below.
As a side note, did you know that the “Bad Romance” singer wrote a track for TLC titled “Posh Life.” It’s one of four new tracks being included in a TLC greatest hits compilation. I don’t know if I’m more excited to hear that song or Gaga’s new single.
After two years stuck in the runner-up slot, Oprah Winfrey returns to the top of the heap. For the fifth time ever, the 59-year-old mogul tops Forbes annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Celebrities. Unlike most lists from the publication, this list isn’t solely based on earnings and net worth. Rather, a combination of press mentions, social media power and naturally cha-ching is used in their formula. For the first time ever, a marketability score has been added to the mix.
Last year’s top dog, Jennifer Lopez, drops to No. 12. No doubt in part to her leaving American Idol. Even though she received less press mentions and lost that salary, abandoning that sinking ship was a wise career move. Even with J. Lo’s absence, six of the Top 10 spots are occupied by women. Check out the entire Top 100 list below.
