Did Lady Gaga Plagiarize Madonna? (Again)

In: Donovan, Music

You knew it was coming? Within days of “Applause” surfacing online, plagiarism claims have once again befallen Lady Gaga. Not surprisingly, Madonna is involved.

While not completely blatant like “Born This Way” ripping off “Express Yourself,” fans of Madge allege Mother Monster’s latest sounds too similar to “Girl Gone Wild.” Personally, it’s a stretch, but I will say one thing. The two tracks make for one wicked mashup. Check out the audio below and weigh in afterward if you think Gaga has once again dipped in the Material Girls’ pool of hits.

It may not be the greatest thing, but it’s definitely the campiest. No wonder Cher claimed her duet with Lady Gaga would never see the light of day. It sounds dated and not in a kitschy hipster kind of way. With that being said, it’s oddly catchy and I found myself swaying back and forth while typing this article. God I’m lame ;)

On a side note: How coincidental is it that the track conveniently leaked the day after Gaga’s “Applause” hit online? Perhaps it’s Mother Monster’s camp that’s responsible for it. Nothing is going to grab headlines like a duet with Cher and Gaga. Right? Give it a listen below.

Lady Gaga Is Over In New ARTPOP Video Promo

In: Donovan, Music

Lady Gaga is no longer relevant. Ever since Born This Way, she’s been a flop. Give her no A-P-P-L-A-U-S-E. The 27-year-old singer uses her critics’ words to promote her new single “Applause” and album, ARTPOP in a gritty new clip. Pretty savvy on her part, if you ask me. At the end of the vid, she commands her little monsters to “stop the drama” and “start the music.” The video was created by the Haus of Gaga in collaboration with Inez & Vinoodh. Check out the video promo below.

Listen To Lady Gaga’s Applause

Like Katy Perry’s new single, Lady Gaga’s lead cut from ARTPOP has found its way online a week ahead of its scheduled August 19 release. Due to hackers leaking “Applause” over the weekend, Mother Monster released the single herself. She tweeted, “DUE TO HACKERS AN ABUNDANCE OF LOW/HIGH QUALITY LEAKS…WE ISSUE THIS POP MUSIC EMERGENCY…MONSTERS SPREAD THE WORD.” I’m loving the beat, but not sure how I feel about her vocal styling. Give the track a listen below and weigh in afterward.

Lady Gaga Drops Yet Another ARTPOP Promo Pic

In: Donovan, Music

Another day, another promo pic for Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP album. Once again, the photo was captured by Gaga’s frequent collaborators, Inez and Vinoodh. I can’t wait to hear the 27-year-old’s explanation for the prosthetic arm. It’s the second image that she’s incorporated the prop.

While I appreciate all the gorgeous artwork, I wish she followed a route similar to Katy Perry’s promotion for “Roar.” Those short snippet video promos from her are brill. What do you think of Gaga’s latest promo pic? Weight in below.

Lady Gaga ARTPOP Track Leaks Online

In: Donovan, Music

While Lady Gaga fans wait impatiently for August 19 to arrive to check out “Applause,” her little monsters were treated to an unexpected surprise courtesy of a leaked track on Monday. “Aura” (or “Burqa” depending on which report you read) is rumored to be a track from her upcoming ARTPOP album.

While there are parts of it that I enjoy, the guitar riffs specifically, “Aura” is a bit of a letdown IMHO. I much prefer “Posh Life” she wrote for TLC much better. I wasn’t expecting “Aura” to be a super catchy track, given I have a feeling she’s gonna go super experimental during her neo-Warholian phase. My biggest beef with the song is that she sounds too affected. At times, I thought I was listening to a long lost Nancy Sinatra song that someone finally unearthed.

I’m sure hardcore Gaga fans will disagree with me (I wouldn’t expect anything else). Fingers crossed “Applause” will be more commercial than this. In her defense, this leaked audio might not even be a finished product and just a rough demo. Give it a listen below and weigh in afterward.

New Machete Kills Trailer Shows More Lady Gaga

In: Donovan, Movies

The first Machete Kills trailer showed off Sofia Vergara’s killer tits (literally). That armed bustier of hers is extremely lethal. In the new clip, Vergara’s Double Ds are still packing heat, but Lady Gaga gets more screen time. She plays a gun-wielding character named La Chameleón. Joining her in the eclectic cast are Michelle Rodriguez, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Amber Heard, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen who’s billed as Carlos Estevez in the film. Someone’s trying to get in touch with his Hispanic roots.

Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federal agent Machete, who is recruited by the President of the United States (Charlie Sheen) for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer (Mel Gibson) who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet.

If you thought the first trailer was ridiculous, this new one is even more out there. I can’t wait. I’m always down for a good trashy exploitation flick. Check out the film’s second official trailer below. Machete Kills hits theaters on September 13, 2013.

Lady Gaga Debuts ‘Applause’ Cover Art: Yay or Nay?

In: Donovan, Music

After being relatively quiet for months, you just knew Lady Gaga was going to return with a big bang. Subtle isn’t exactly her middle name. In addition to unveiling yet another ARTPOP promo pic, the 27-year-old singer confirmed the title of her upcoming album’s lead single and debuted its cover art. “Applause” which was co-written with DJ White Shadow is an ode to Gaga’s relationship with her fans.

“In my heart of hearts as I was writing, I knew that if I asked [the fans] to cheer for me before I sang or if I alluded to the fact that they would cheer for me before I sang….They do that all the time for me; before I even open my mouth, the fans start cheering for me, so this exclamation.” – Lady Gaga

Once again, Gaga teamed up with frequent collaborators, photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for her latest photo shoot. Some have noticed the “Applause” cover art resembles David Bowie’s previous covers. If the resemblance is intentional, it wouldn’t be the first time she’s looked to Bowie for inspiration. Her lightning bolt eye makeup during her “Just Dance” phase was definitely an homage to him.
