2014 Razzie Nominations: Grown Ups 2 Lead The Pack

In: Donovan, Movies
grown-ups-2-razzie-nominations

A day before the Academy Awards reveal their nominations for the best in cinema the past year, we learn the worst. The Golden Raspberry Award aka the Razzies are here to remind Hollywood to “own their bad” for some truly awful films and performances. Leading the pack with a whopping eight nominations is Adam Sandler’s ensemble comedy, Grown Ups 2. Following close behind with six nods a piece are After Earth, A Madea Christmas and Movie 43.

Sandler who’s won “Worst Actor” honors the past two years for Jack and Jill & Just Go with It (2011) and That’s My Boy (2012) is going for an unprecedented consecutive third win for his lead role in Grown Ups 2. A couple of years ago, Adam also picked up “Worst Actress” for Jack and Jill. That film made history by winning a record 10 awards that year.

Earning their first ever Razzie nod are some of the silver screen’s most recognizable luminaries, including past Oscar nominees Johnny Depp and Naomi Watts. Jaden Smith, Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez also broke their Razzie cherry this year. On the complete opposite spectrum, Sylvester Stallone earns his staggering 31st nomination. The Razzies will be held on March 1, the day before the Academy Awards hand out the Oscars. Check out all the dishonorable nominations below.

Can’t decide which version of “Do What U Want” you like best? Torn between R. Kelly’s sultry soulful vibe and Christina Aguilera’s growling ad libs? Perhaps, Rick Ross’ sick rhymes are more your flavor. Whichever collaboration you prefer, you’ll go bat sh*t crazy for this megamix, or what I like to call “DWUW Version 4.0,” featuring all of Lady Gaga’s duet partners.

In other Gaga-related news, she recently apologized to her little monsters for the delay of the accompanying music video. The “Applause” singer cryptically wrote on her website that some people “betrayed her” by “mismanaging” her time and health.

Call me a skeptic but I just don’t see Gaga being pushed around. I feel her entire image and direction is heavily controlled by her. The conspiracy theory-loving person that I am, thinks Gaga and Terry Richardson are preparing an ultimate clip featuring R. Kelly, X-Tina and Ross. Don’t you think? Check out her entire apology below, along with the megamix.

Sorry R. Kelly, but you’re yesterday’s news. As fantastic as the original duet was, along with some pretty wicked live performances, Gaga pushed the R&B singer aside. The “Applause” chanteuse released a studio version of her epic duet with Christina Aguilera at the stroke of midnight New Years.

As much as I like the new studio recording, I was hoping more of a growl-off similar to their live Voice performance. With that being said, any track that features X-Tina on guest vocals is always fantastic. Give it a listen below. Just in case you missed their live duet, I also added that as well. Lady Gaga’s “Do What U Want” featuring Christina Aguilera is available to download on Amazon.

It’s a pretty savvy move for Gaga to release an alternate version. For those who were uncomfortable with R. Kelly singing about doing stuff to one’s body given his controversial sexual past, the Xtina version could be easier to swallow (excuse the pun). Don’t you think? Weigh in below.

This list is definitely a fine line between artistic integrity, videos that were influential to pop culture,  and things that just made me happy despite popular consensus. But covering and considering all those bases, here we go. Agree or disagree, here were some great visuals to great songs this year that made it 2013 for me, and maybe you, but mostly me.

My Happy Homo Xmas Playlist

In: Music, Totally GAY!, Tyrell

We’re taking the day off today, so we decided to repost some of our favorite Christmas-themed posts from this and previous years.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.

Hey fellow homos. How’s everyone’s Christmas shopping getting along? Thankfully, Patrick and I completed a big chunk of our list yesterday afternoon. Getting out of the house to do a few holiday tasks definitely helped get me in the Christmas spirit, something I feel like I have been lacking in this year. If you are like me and need a little holiday pep, I’ve decided to compile a list of some of my favorite Christmas tracks to add to your playlist. Here we go. (Please note, this article is being written very tongue in cheek.) Enjoy!

Wham! – “Last Christmas”

This song is a must-have on your holiday homo playlist. It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser at any party and will make your spirits gay and bright! It doesn’t hurt that George Michael who’s on our team is the mastermind behind this Christmas tune that we all know and love. See more of my holiday favorites below.

The time has finally arrived. It’s time to crown the Season 5 winner of The Voice? While the main purpose of tonight’s show is to reveal the results, there were plenty other highlights. I’m not even going to sugarcoat it. Lady Gaga’s surprise duet with Christina Aguilera on “Do What You Want” was epic. R. Kelly who? They harmonized beautifully, drank champagne and were overall FIERCE. These two need to head to the recording studio immediately. Check out that performance below, along with the others and the results.

Nothing says true love like getting thrown off a mechanical bull with your loved one ;) For their sake, I hope John Mayer and Katy Perry stay together forever. It’d be painful for the dumpee to stumble upon their “Who You Love” visual during a moment of weakness. That’s the sucky thing about appearing on-screen with your real-life lover. When things go bad, accidentally looking back at happier times could open a floodgate of tears. I know I would.

Mayer and Perry dropped by ABC’s Good Morning America to premiere the visual for “Who You Love.” Just like the track itself, the video is simplistic but beautiful and heartfelt. Directed by Sophie Muller (Rihanna “Stay”), it shows couples including John and Katy riding a mechanical bull in slow-motion. For me, the most beautiful moments are when Mayer and Perry look into each other eyes and sing. Either they’re really in love or fantastic actors. I’m thinking the former. Kate Winslet and Daniel Day Lewis they are not. Check out the video below.

The Grindr Best Of 2013 Awards

In: Celeb Gossip & News, Donovan, Totally GAY!

Award season is officially underway! Even Grindr is getting in on the action. They recently released their best of 2013 year end list. From gay icon of the year (Neil Patrick Harris) to best comeback of the year (Netflix), users of the ubiquitous hookup app made their voice heard on a multitude of categories.

2013 was a banner year of celebrities coming out. Not surprisingly with all the headlines he generated, Wentworth Miller earned Grindr’s best coming out story. Solid choice. I was lucky enough to witness Miller’s first appearance after coming out at the HRC Gala Dinner in Seattle.

Along with revealing the best of the best in the past year, Grindr also weighed in on what they expect will be big and make headlines in 2014. Find out below who they think the next celebrity to come out is and what will become obsolete.
