Sorry R. Kelly, but you’re yesterday’s news. As fantastic as the original duet was, along with some pretty wicked live performances, Gaga pushed the R&B singer aside. The “Applause” chanteuse released a studio version of her epic duet with Christina Aguilera at the stroke of midnight New Years.

As much as I like the new studio recording, I was hoping more of a growl-off similar to their live Voice performance. With that being said, any track that features X-Tina on guest vocals is always fantastic. Give it a listen below. Just in case you missed their live duet, I also added that as well. Lady Gaga’s “Do What U Want” featuring Christina Aguilera is available to download on Amazon.

It’s a pretty savvy move for Gaga to release an alternate version. For those who were uncomfortable with R. Kelly singing about doing stuff to one’s body given his controversial sexual past, the Xtina version could be easier to swallow (excuse the pun). Don’t you think? Weigh in below.

In: Music, Nic
best-music-videos-2013

This list is definitely a fine line between artistic integrity, videos that were influential to pop culture,  and things that just made me happy despite popular consensus. But covering and considering all those bases, here we go. Agree or disagree, here were some great visuals to great songs this year that made it 2013 for me, and maybe you, but mostly me.

My Happy Homo Xmas Playlist

In: Music, Totally GAY!, Tyrell

We’re taking the day off today, so we decided to repost some of our favorite Christmas-themed posts from this and previous years.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE.

Hey fellow homos. How’s everyone’s Christmas shopping getting along? Thankfully, Patrick and I completed a big chunk of our list yesterday afternoon. Getting out of the house to do a few holiday tasks definitely helped get me in the Christmas spirit, something I feel like I have been lacking in this year. If you are like me and need a little holiday pep, I’ve decided to compile a list of some of my favorite Christmas tracks to add to your playlist. Here we go. (Please note, this article is being written very tongue in cheek.) Enjoy!

Wham! – “Last Christmas”

This song is a must-have on your holiday homo playlist. It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser at any party and will make your spirits gay and bright! It doesn’t hurt that George Michael who’s on our team is the mastermind behind this Christmas tune that we all know and love. See more of my holiday favorites below.

The time has finally arrived. It’s time to crown the Season 5 winner of The Voice? While the main purpose of tonight’s show is to reveal the results, there were plenty other highlights. I’m not even going to sugarcoat it. Lady Gaga’s surprise duet with Christina Aguilera on “Do What You Want” was epic. R. Kelly who? They harmonized beautifully, drank champagne and were overall FIERCE. These two need to head to the recording studio immediately. Check out that performance below, along with the others and the results.

Nothing says true love like getting thrown off a mechanical bull with your loved one ;) For their sake, I hope John Mayer and Katy Perry stay together forever. It’d be painful for the dumpee to stumble upon their “Who You Love” visual during a moment of weakness. That’s the sucky thing about appearing on-screen with your real-life lover. When things go bad, accidentally looking back at happier times could open a floodgate of tears. I know I would.

Mayer and Perry dropped by ABC’s Good Morning America to premiere the visual for “Who You Love.” Just like the track itself, the video is simplistic but beautiful and heartfelt. Directed by Sophie Muller (Rihanna “Stay”), it shows couples including John and Katy riding a mechanical bull in slow-motion. For me, the most beautiful moments are when Mayer and Perry look into each other eyes and sing. Either they’re really in love or fantastic actors. I’m thinking the former. Kate Winslet and Daniel Day Lewis they are not. Check out the video below.

The Grindr Best Of 2013 Awards

In: Celeb Gossip & News, Donovan, Totally GAY!
grindr-wentworth-miller

Award season is officially underway! Even Grindr is getting in on the action. They recently released their best of 2013 year end list. From gay icon of the year (Neil Patrick Harris) to best comeback of the year (Netflix), users of the ubiquitous hookup app made their voice heard on a multitude of categories.

2013 was a banner year of celebrities coming out. Not surprisingly with all the headlines he generated, Wentworth Miller earned Grindr’s best coming out story. Solid choice. I was lucky enough to witness Miller’s first appearance after coming out at the HRC Gala Dinner in Seattle.

Along with revealing the best of the best in the past year, Grindr also weighed in on what they expect will be big and make headlines in 2014. Find out below who they think the next celebrity to come out is and what will become obsolete.

lady-gaga-muppets-christmas-special-videos

Did you catch Lady Gaga’s holiday special on ABC? I didn’t, but stumbled upon the videos of the duets from the extravaganza. After checking them out, I’m half tempted to watch the entire thing. Perhaps, I’ll do it later this weekend as I’m nursing one of my hangovers ;)

During Lady Gaga & The Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular, the 27-year-old pop star enlisted some expected and some not so expected duet partners. While Elton John and RuPaul are a given, seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt join Mother Monster on “Baby It’s Cold Outside” was a pleasant surprise. Random, but appreciated. My favorite of the duets though has to be the one with RuPaul. They’re like two peas in a pod those two. The Drag Race host was serving fierceness from every pore of her body. Hunty definitely WEEEERKED it.

Clearly, Gaga enjoyed her time with the furry bunch. She’s set to join them on their eight film feature, Muppets Most Wanted, opening March 21. In the meantime, check out the vids below.

songs-for-philippines-charity-album

In the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan where thousands of lives were lost, the recording industry is banding together to raise money for the relief efforts. The three major record labels- Sony, Warner Music and Universal- created a compilation album titled Songs for the Philippines. It features 39 hit songs from some of the biggest names in the business.

Spanning multiple genres, you’ll find music from Justin Timberlake, Bob Dylan, Josh Groban, P!nk, Madonna and countless others. While some tracks like “Carry On” by Bruno Mars, “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson and “Brave” from Sara Bareilles feel appropriate, others seem out of place. “Best Song Ever” by One Direction and “Feel This Moment” by Pitbull and Christina Aguilera have me scratching my head. Oh well, I suppose casting the net a little wider doesn’t hurt. It’s nice to see artists with Filipino heritage also taking part, including Jessica Sanchez, Black Eyed Peas’ apl.de.ap and Mars.

All the artists, record companies and music publishers working on the project have waived fees. The compilation album is available on iTunes for only $9.99 with all proceeds being donated to the cause. Even if you have several of the tracks already in your music collection, I urge you to purchase the album. It’s a small price to shell out to help so many. On a day where many of us have so much to be thankful for, it’s nice to think of others who are less fortunate. If you want to donate more, there’s a link to the Red Cross from iTunes.
