Highlights From Jimmy Fallon’s First Tonight Show

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Whether Jimmy Fallon lasts as long Jay Leno or Johnny Carson’s tenure, one thing I’m certain of is he’ll definitely outlast Conan O’Brien’s stint. He’s made a serious of savvy moves including moving the show to New York City. I love the new vibe of the late night staple in the Big Apple. Don’t you agree?

Like Jay Leno’s classy good-bye, Fallon’s debut featured a slew of celebrities making surprise appearances. During a bit, Jimmy called out a friend who never thought he’d become the host of The Tonight Show. After putting his ‘buddy’ to task Robert De Niro popped out from backstage and slapped a $100 bill on his desk. The Raging Bull actor was immediately followed by Tina Fey and a parade of stars including Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Rudy Guiliani, Kim Kardashian, Tracy Morgan, Joe Namath, Seth Rogen, Lindsay Lohan, Joan Rivers, Mike Tyson, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Stephen Colbert. The latter dumped 1,000 pennies on Fallon and said, “Welcome to 11:30, BITCH!!!” Well said.

Another highlight from Fallon’s premiere featured his first official guest, Will Smith, perform the evolution of hip-hop dancing. The segment even showcased the famous Carlton dance from Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Check out both clips below.

If you watch Bravo’s highly-addictive guilty pleasuring Housewives franchise, you’ll appreciate this post. Reportedly, Lady Gaga enlisted Andy Cohen’s first ladies to appear in her upcoming music video. For once, acting like monsters on camera might be a good thing for Bravo’s drama-seeking women. After all, Gaga loves her little monsters. Find out which women were supposedly involved below, along with details about Gaga’s forthcoming visual.

Without a doubt, ARTPOP‘s legacy will be how horribly “Do What U Want” was mishandled. Even though it wasn’t originally planned as the second official single, Lady Gaga switched things up because the slinky pop track was getting the most favorable reviews. The only early criticism it faced was the inclusion of alleged sex offender R. Kelly on the sexual track. Even with that, it had momentum to be a hit.

Sadly though, a music video was never released, reportedly due to Gaga putting her trust in the wrong people. The single looked to have a second shot when Mother Monster joined forces with Christina Aguilera for a headline-grabbing live performance on The Voice. Why she chose New Years Day to release the single with Aguilera on iTunes was a little perplexing. And now comes this.

Steven Redant was commissioned to work his magic on the track. The 27-year-old “Applause” singer uploaded four official remixes by the Barcelona-based DJ on her YouTube account recently. Gotta wonder why it took so long to put these up. Even as hot as these dance remixes are, the window for “Do What U Want” to be ARTPOP‘s lone chart-topper has come and gone. Check out the remixes below.

2014 Razzie Nominations: Grown Ups 2 Lead The Pack

In: Donovan, Movies

A day before the Academy Awards reveal their nominations for the best in cinema the past year, we learn the worst. The Golden Raspberry Award aka the Razzies are here to remind Hollywood to “own their bad” for some truly awful films and performances. Leading the pack with a whopping eight nominations is Adam Sandler’s ensemble comedy, Grown Ups 2. Following close behind with six nods a piece are After Earth, A Madea Christmas and Movie 43.

Sandler who’s won “Worst Actor” honors the past two years for Jack and Jill & Just Go with It (2011) and That’s My Boy (2012) is going for an unprecedented consecutive third win for his lead role in Grown Ups 2. A couple of years ago, Adam also picked up “Worst Actress” for Jack and Jill. That film made history by winning a record 10 awards that year.

Earning their first ever Razzie nod are some of the silver screen’s most recognizable luminaries, including past Oscar nominees Johnny Depp and Naomi Watts. Jaden Smith, Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez also broke their Razzie cherry this year. On the complete opposite spectrum, Sylvester Stallone earns his staggering 31st nomination. The Razzies will be held on March 1, the day before the Academy Awards hand out the Oscars. Check out all the dishonorable nominations below.

Can’t decide which version of “Do What U Want” you like best? Torn between R. Kelly’s sultry soulful vibe and Christina Aguilera’s growling ad libs? Perhaps, Rick Ross’ sick rhymes are more your flavor. Whichever collaboration you prefer, you’ll go bat sh*t crazy for this megamix, or what I like to call “DWUW Version 4.0,” featuring all of Lady Gaga’s duet partners.

In other Gaga-related news, she recently apologized to her little monsters for the delay of the accompanying music video. The “Applause” singer cryptically wrote on her website that some people “betrayed her” by “mismanaging” her time and health.

Call me a skeptic but I just don’t see Gaga being pushed around. I feel her entire image and direction is heavily controlled by her. The conspiracy theory-loving person that I am, thinks Gaga and Terry Richardson are preparing an ultimate clip featuring R. Kelly, X-Tina and Ross. Don’t you think? Check out her entire apology below, along with the megamix.

Sorry R. Kelly, but you’re yesterday’s news. As fantastic as the original duet was, along with some pretty wicked live performances, Gaga pushed the R&B singer aside. The “Applause” chanteuse released a studio version of her epic duet with Christina Aguilera at the stroke of midnight New Years.

As much as I like the new studio recording, I was hoping more of a growl-off similar to their live Voice performance. With that being said, any track that features X-Tina on guest vocals is always fantastic. Give it a listen below. Just in case you missed their live duet, I also added that as well. Lady Gaga’s “Do What U Want” featuring Christina Aguilera is available to download on Amazon.

It’s a pretty savvy move for Gaga to release an alternate version. For those who were uncomfortable with R. Kelly singing about doing stuff to one’s body given his controversial sexual past, the Xtina version could be easier to swallow (excuse the pun). Don’t you think? Weigh in below.
