dj-earworm-2014-mashup

One of the things I look most forward to at this time of year is DJ Earworm’s annual music video, mashing up the calendar year’s 25 biggest Billboard hits. With the decline of EDM on the Hot 100 chart, Earworm (real name: Jordan Roseman) tells Billboard he went with a more mellower approach.

“The thing that has been most notable in the past two or three years is the decline of EDM,” says Earworm of the 25 songs he selected for this year’s song. “The ‘United State of Pop’ became this dance track from ’09 to ’12, and then starting last year, there just wasn’t enough in that genre to fully support it, so I went down-tempo. And this year, ‘Timber,’ which was popular in January, is the only popular dance track I’m dealing with. It’s definitely down-tempo, so you have to decide, how is this going to go? How am I going to maintain the energy levels while being true to the sound of the year?”

It truly is remarkable how he weaves ballads like Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” and John Legend’s “All Of Me” with hip-hop anthems like Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty” and Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow,” along with dance tracks DJ Snake’s “Turn Down For What” and Pitbull’s “Timber.” Check out the DJ/Producer’s latest masterpiece below, along with a list of which tracks made the cut.

Is ‘Lover’ A New Single From Kesha?

In: Donovan, Music

Kesha is currently engaged in a contentious legal battle with Dr. Luke. If she wins her lawsuit, she’ll be freed from his shackles and released from her record deal. During this courtroom drama, the 27-year-old is still hitting the recording studio, laying down tracks for her forthcoming third studio album. Is this one of those tracks?

Lover” popped up on SoundCloud recently. Reportedly it was co-written by Kesha and produced by Spookey Ruben and Schpilkas. I’m not entirely convinced it’s by Kesha but if it is, I like the direction she’s going. The track seems a tad unpolished which I attribute to it just being a demo. Give it a whirl below and weigh in if you think it’s the “Tik Tok” singer and your thoughts on it.

It’s no secret that Kesha and longtime producer Dr. Luke have a strained relationship. By the looks of it, it’s not going to get better anytime in the near future. Earlier today, the “Tik Tok” singer filed a lawsuit against Dr. Luke. Hours later, he filed a countersuit against his former protégé.

Kesha alleges Dr. Luke was abusive from the get-go after signing her when she was 18. She claims he made repeated sexual advances toward her, and forced her to use drugs and alcohol. She points to one specific occasion where she woke up naked in Dr. Luke’s bed, sore, sick after taking ‘sober pills’ he gave her. Kesha also cites physical abuse in her lawsuit.

She is asking a judge to let her out of her contract with Luke. Her lawyer Mark Geragos spoke to TMZ.

Lord knows the world doesn’t need another reality singing competition. However, I’m willing to give Rising Star a shot for a few reasons. Firstly, not that I’m a huge Kesha fan, but I’m rooting for a comeback by the “Tik Tok” singer after her rehab stint. Secondly, I want to see how this whole live voting works and more importantly, how it incorporates the West coast. Lastly, I want to see that damn wall rise up.

ABC has long been touting the big twist that everything is live. No results show, no waiting, no judges making the decisions. Home viewers have full control and will instantly advance contestants via voting through the show’s app. Kesha, Ludacris, Brad Paisley and host Josh Groban explain it all in a new promo for Rising Star. Give it a view below.

ABC Taps Kesha & More To Judge Rising Star

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. ABC is certainly taking that proverb to heart. The alphabet network makes another attempt to get into the singing competition game this Summer after dipping their toes with Duets starring Kelly Clarkson a couple years ago.

Rising Star has a unique live format unlike any of its competitors. It’s proven quite popular in foreign territories. A hopeful singer will perform behind a huge video wall. If viewers at home are impressed they will cast their votes in real time via smartphone. Should the singer generate enough votes, the video wall will rise.

Ke$ha is a new woman after leaving a two month stint in rehab to treat an eating disorder. With a healthy outlook on life, the 27-year-old is starting anew. First step, she’s dropping the annoying dollar sign in her name. Say good-bye to Ke$ha and say hello to Kesha. Thank God. Typing the dollar sign has been the bane of my existence every time I write about the “Timber” singer.

“Happy to be back!” she happily tweeted. “Feeling healthy & working on tons of new music. I can’t thank my fans enough for all the love & support u have given me.” She added, “Life is beautiful. I’m so blessed to have u all.”

Ke$ha Solo Version Of Timber Surfaces

In: Donovan, Music

Admit it! You love “Timber.” Whether you love or hate Pitbull or Ke$ha, you can’t deny the track is catchy as sh*t. Once the hook, sung by Ke$ha, penetrates your head you can’t remove it for a couple of hours. Now imagine if Mr. Worldwide wasn’t part of the collaboration. Thanks to an enterprising individual, we have exactly that.

Using an unreleased demo of “Woo Hoo,” the “Tik Tok” singer’s raps replace Pitbull’s verses. Amazingly, they line up extremely well with the beat. If Pitbull is the only reason why you haven’t fully embraced “Timber,” here’s your opportunity to do so with this Ke$ha-only version. Enjoy.

Ke$ha’s Mom Joins Her In Rehab

Ke$ha recently admitted herself into Timberline Knolls. In a statement, the “Tik Tok” singer revealed she was “seeking treatment for my eating disorder… to learn to love myself again, exactly as I am.” It appears Ke$ha’s internal demons are taking a toll on her family. Her mom, Pebe Sebert, has also checked herself in the same facility. It appears though, she’s doing it to keep a close eye on her daughter.

“I’m checking myself into Timberline Knolls today for post-traumatic stress disorder, at Ke$ha’s urging,” says the Sebert matriarch. Previously, Pebe accused Dr. Luke, Ke$ha’s producer, of pressuring her daughter to be thin — an allegation he denies. “This whole Dr. Luke thing has almost torn our family apart and taken over my life, and Ke$ha wants me to heal along with her,” Sebert tells People magazine.
