Surprisingly, or perhaps not, Kesha has never attended New York Fashion Week until this year. The 27-year-old singer broke her cherry in a big way. She hit up show after show, sporting a new look at each one. She was seen at Tadashi Shoji, VFiles, Prada, Christian Siriano, DKNY, Zac Posen and Diane von Furstenberg to name a few.
Hopefully, all this exposure to style and good taste elevates the “Tik Tok” singer’s fashion game. She needs to leave her glittery trailer trash image behind.
Kesha recently talked to Yahoo Style! about her first NY Fashion Week. However, the most intriguing parts of the interview was when chatter shifted to music. Admit, you kinda miss her :)
“I’ve been working on new music for months now, obsessing in the studio all night. I have a lot of new music, but it’s been all over the place. Some it’s been weird country, talking about…can I curse?” She adds, “And then I have love songs, so it’s all over the place. I’m still kind of compiling my record.”
Check out her quick interview with Yahoo Style’s Joe Zee And Hannah Davis below.
With “Royals,” Lorde became the youngest artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 since Tiffany. She’s accomplished another impressive feat. By spending a ninth week on top of the prestigious chart, the Kiwi singer joins an elite group of women. On a side note, the longest-running hit of 2013 is still Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” which spent 12 weeks on top. Find out Lorde’s achievement below.
With “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line and Nelly and “Wake Me Up” by Avicii picking up AMAs for Single Of The Year and Electronic Dance Music Artist respectively, country music is hotter than ever. Pitbull, like Avicci, incorporates the genre with his signature sound. The result is a surprisingly catchy country-dance track featuring Ke$ha. The accompanying video pretty much falls in line with the duo’s “Timber” performance on last night’s American Music Awards.
Ke&ha channels her inner Coyote Ugly as she plays bartender and head bitch to some hoochie country line-dancing troupe as they execute a sexy version of the Texas Two Step. I must say, the Western look really works on the “Tik Tok” singer. Meanwhile, Pitbull feeds dolphins and goes swimming wearing his pastel blue suit. Gotta give Mr. Worldwide credit for sticking with his look no matter what. Check out the newly-released clip below.
The 41th annual American Music Awards took place at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre Live on Sunday night with Mr. Worldwide aka Pitbull hosting. Random choice, right?
Heading into the evening, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had the most nominations with six. Even though they nabbed two AMAs, Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night. The 23-year-old singer won four awards – Artist of the Year, Favorite Country Female Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, and Favorite Country Album for Red. It was her third time winning the year’s top prize!
The top male dog was Justin Timberlake who walked away with three statues. Other multiple winners were One Direction and Rihanna. The AMAs bestowed the latter with their first ever Icon Award which was presented to her by her mom. Adorable.
With regards to performances, Lady Gaga in my opinion stole the show alongside R. Kelly with their sexually-charged tribute to JFK and Marilyn Monroe. Other memorable highlights include Katy Perry’s Japanese-themed “Conditionally” number, DWTS’ Maks Chmerkovskiy tossing around J. Lo during her Celia Cruz homage, Miley Cyrus being accompanied by a giant kitty and Christina Aguilera’s beautiful duet with A Great Big World.
On the flip side, I was underwhelmed with both Ariana Grande and TLC. The former was fantastic vocally but a tad boring, while the latter served practically zero energy during their “Waterfalls” performance with Lil Mama subbing in for the late Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes. Check out all the performances and winners below.
Kanye West visited Jimmy Kimmel last night to squash their “epic” two week “rap feud.” Even though both maintained that the entire thing wasn’t a publicity stunt or staged, I still call BS. Perhaps not on Kimmel’s part, but the Twitter insults from West’s end reek of a Kardashian antic. Don’t you agree?
In honor of Kanye’s appearance, Jimmy resurrected his Mean Tweets segment. This time only featuring musicians. Watch the likes of Selena Gomez, John Legend, Pharrell, John Mayer,Adam Levine, the Backstreet Boys and Ke$ha read unflattering Tweets about themselves from their respective haters. The insults directed at country artists like Darius Rucker, Brad Paisley and Lady Antebellum are the best. Check out the music edition below.
It appears Avicii started a trend with his infectious hit, “Wake Me Up.” Even Pitbull, the undisputed king of the Miami dance, is going country. The 32-year-old rapper fuses his club-friendly sound with a honky-tonk vibe. Joining him on “Timber” for a little dosey doe is glitter queen herself, Ke$ha.
Hardcore fans of the “Die Young” singer have recently launched a campaign to release her from Dr. Luke’s grip. They might have a change of heart after hearing this country dance diddy. It’s pretty darn good, ya’ll.
“Timber” isn’t the first collaboration between Pitbull and Ke$ha. The two joined forces in 2009 with “Girls” and most recently on a remix of Ke$ha’s recent “Crazy Kids.” By far, this is their best IMHO. Give it a listen below.
If safe to say Ke$ha suffered from the dreaded sophomore slump. Albeit not a complete trainwreck, but a slump nonetheless. Warrior only moved 350,000 copies domestically, while her debut Animal sold over 1,400,000 units. To boot, all her singles prior to Warrior all became Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits. On her most recent effort, only “Die Young” cracked the Top 10.
Not sure if this unreleased track would’ve changed Warrior‘s fortunes, but I’m sure Ke$ha’s hardcore fans will eat it up. “Meet Me In Space” is produced by Nathan Chapman, who’s mostly known for his work in country music. Since the following audio seems like a rough demo, it’s not really fair to completely judge it. With that being said, it’s not bad, but I can see why the 26-year-old singer nixed it. Give it a listen below and see if it was a sound move to not include it on Warrior.
She’s been behind some of the biggest hits in recent memory. In only makes sense that Bonnie McKee forge a recording career of her own. The 29-year-old singer-songwriter debuted the music video for “American Girl” and enlisted a few of her famous friends to lip sync for their lives.
Naturally, Katy Perry appears in the clip prominently considering McKee co-penned four of her No. 1 hits- “Teenage Dream,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “California Gurls,” and “Part of Me.” Also making a cameo are other artists she’s written for including Adam Lambert (“Chokehold”), Taio Cruz (“Dynamite”), Ke$ha (“C’Mon”) and Carly Rae Jepsen (“Turn Me Up”).
Too bad Britney Spears (“Hold It Against Me”), Kelly Clarkson (“Hello”), Christina Aguilera (“Let There Be Love”) and Rita Ora (“How We Do (Party)” didn’t show up in the video. Oh well, there isn’t a shortage of familiar names “singing” her lyrics. Joan Rivers and her Fashion Police crew, Kathy Griffin, Lance Bass, George Takei, Nicole Scherzinger, Jewel and her hubby Ty Murray, Macklemore and plenty other randoms make an appearance. Check out the clip below.
