Last night, comedic actor Russell Brand appeared on The Graham Norton Show to promote his new film, “Rock of Ages.” While Graham asked a lot of great questions regarding the new film and upcoming project, one question that hit a sour chord with Brand was removed from the show’s actual airing. Graham began to grill Russell on his recent divorce from pop star, Katy Perry in which Brand responded with the following:

“My mum is here. She got upset when you dragged up my marriage. I saw her cry. That’s the reality because it’s real people Graham, that’s my real mum. I have come here to promote a film and you made my mum cry. I don’t see you as that sort of person Graham.”

Graham fired back by saying he doesn’t see himself as that kind of person, but Brand insisted that he was. Katy Perry had appeared on Norton’s show only a short week before and Graham claims if he wouldn’t have brought it up, it would have been weird. Russell is criticized Norton for not pre-approving the discussion with him prior to the interview. Brand explains below.

Billboard: Summer Songs Of The 2000s

In: Donovan, Music

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Billboard’s summer hits compilation of the 1990s. Today, I thought reminiscing about the songs that had us grooving during the summer months after the turn of the century would be fun. I love summer and I love Top 10 lists. Consider me happy.

The thing that surprised me the most about the Top 10 lists is how drastically the music landscape has changed in the past few years. Now it’s all about electro-pop dance tracks dominating radio and the charts, while R&B barely has a presence anymore. Urban music took pole position in the majority of the years from 2000-2010. Find out below which tracks had you bumpin‘ and grindin‘ at the clubs and accompanied you on those road trips during the summers of the 2000s.

Over the weekend, pretty much all of the biggest names in music right now performed at the Capital FM Summertime Ball 2012 at Wembley Stadium in London. You may recall that yesterday I posted a special DJ Earworm mashup of all of these songs & performers. If you haven’t checked it out the video and downloaded the song (free), you should.

With artists like Kelly Clarkson, Justin Bieber, The Wanted, Cheryl Cole, Usher, Carly Rae Jepsen, Connor Maynard and countless others, it was one epic concert that I would have loved to have been at.

I’ve compiled a bunch of the performances from many of the big artists that were there. Of course many performed multiple songs, but I decided to choose some of my favorites. Cheryl Cole’s, “Call My Name” performance was hot! Enjoy the videos below.

Just last weekend, Katy Perry hit the stage to premiere her new single, “Wide Awake” at the Billboard Music Awards. The dreamy number was a great kick off to debut the track on iTunes the very next day. Music – it’s a marketers game let me tell you. While Katy has released an official lyric video, no actual video has been released as of yet. Maybe after checking out this latest student project, she will feel inspired.

Yvonne H prefaces the video on Vimeo by saying this is her first stop-motion claymation video and thought that the colorful Katy Perry and her new track would be the perfect candidate for this little project. She also states that she made probably every mistake in the book and hopes we don’t mind the sometimes not-so-smooth motion of the animation. I say it’s pretty damn good effort for your first attempt and I think you should take requests for future stop-motion music videos. Any ready to see the boys from The Wanted in claymation form? How about One Direction? Check out the cute music video creation below and place your requests in the comments section.

Forbes Magazine has just revealed their “Celebrity 100” list for this year, revealing a new number one celebrity for 2012. The magazine looks at various factors when classifying the celebs, including: Wealth, TV/Radio ranking, Press ranking, Web ranking, and Social ranking.

The person who topped this list year is involved in many areas of the business and despite the image above, it’s not Justin Bieber nor is it Oprah Winfrey. I’m not surprised to see this person on the list, but I must say I’m a little surprised to see them at number one. Last year, Gaga topped the list with Oprah trailing behind in second. This year, the Top 10 list is quite different, but Oprah finds herself at number two once again.

Check out the Top 10 list below to find out who tops the list this year.

Well, last night did NOT get a ton of great reviews. Once again relying upon the over-used songbook of Queen (seriously Nigel, how much do they pay you to feature them season after season), Idol fell slightly short this Wednesday with what they offered up. I felt Josh, Hollie and even Jessica missed the mark where they’re usually seen as the “power” voices; instead the evening was owned by Elise and particularly Skylar who blew away the others. Phil looked cute and that’s all I really asked of him. As we get down to the few remaining kids and have seen expected top-contenders like Colton and Jess at the bottom over the last two weeks, it’s honestly anyone’s to win or lose at this point. Honestly, I don’t think Hollie or Josh have a prayer at top billing and doubt Elise is ever going to get the credit she deserves so this writer is predicting a Jess/Phil/Skylar finish as is but who really knows!

Tonight we get a live tapped performance by Katy Perry doing her single “Part of Me“, cute boy, barely-talented Stefano Langone of last year Idol failure fame doing his: “I’m On a Roll” and a Queen tribute bandkicks off their “Queen Extravaganza” show as they begin their cross-country tour. I’m not interested any of these performances to be honest as tribute bands always fall short of the original for me- give me a remix any day; Katy Perry has notoriously terrible live performances (albeit this was taped last night so hopefully some auto-tune has been applied) and as Stefano was only famous for staying around as long as he did because older gays (like my ex Dan) liked to see him on stage. I just wanna see who’s going home!

Before I write about Katy Perry’s video to Carly Rae Jepsen’s infectious hit, I just wanted to congratulate this local girl done good. “Call Me Maybe” is now a bona fide international hit. The single has hit the top of the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and United Kingdom. Stateside, the track broke into the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 just last week. WOOHOO. I’m curious to know if the song would’ve made it this big without the endorsement of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez.

Speaking of which. The two teen lovers along with Ashley Tisdale and a few friends filmed a lip sync video to Jepsen’s track a few months ago. Shot during what looked like a night of casual fun at a friend’s house, the “fan” video has amassed a whopping 33+ million views on YouTube. If you haven’t seen the clip, you definitely have to. It’s totes adorkable. I’m sure you can relate since I’m positive you and your friends most likely have sung to this track in your car or living room at least once. And if not, get on it.

While enjoying some down time during Coachella last weekend, Katy Perry and her entourage filmed their own impromptu music video to Carly Rae’s hit. Obviously enjoying some “beverages“, Perry and her friends sing, dance and lip sync for the world to see. Though not as polished as the Biebs’ version, it’s still cute on its own right. Perhaps, I’m won over by a few of Katy’s hot male friends. YUM. Given that Perry is single now, making a video with her pleading “Call Me Maybe” seems appropriate. Check out what the “Teenage Dream” singer was doing in Palm Desert in between catch a resurrected Tupac Shakur below.

Last week Entertainment Weekly gave us a sneak peek at it’s music issue. Naturally, Adele graced the cover where the publication names the “30 Greatest Artists Right Now“. With the British Songbird selling millions of copies of her second album “21″ (what sophomore slump???) and her domination at this year’s Grammys, Adele is not only the perfect choice for the cover but also as their No. 1 musician right now. Her success is nothing short of remarkable given that she wasn’t able to promote it for months due to surgery. She truly is changing the face of music today. Everyone’s trying to find and sign the next Adele.

Ranking the “30 Greatest Artists” of the moment is a dicey situation and EW.com is certainly going out on a limb. You’re bound to piss some people off with omissions and how low their favorite artist ranks on the list, if they make the cut. For instance, Lady Gaga and Beyonce barely make the list and don’t even crack the Top 20. At least they made it. I’m sure my Seattle friends and Patrick will be annoyed that their beloved Britney Spears was snubbed from the list.

Even a bigger omission, IMHO, is Madonna. Sure, she’s prehistoric but she did just clock in her eighth No. 1 album last week. Even equally fellow geriatric Bruce Springsteen ranked on the list. Why the Madonna hate??? That being said, I’m happy that a few non marquee names made the cut- Azealia Banks, fun. and Gotye all got some loving. See who else made EW.com’s Top 30 below.
