It’s starting to look like 2010 over at FOX. Remember when Simon Cowell left “American Idol” and producers scrambled to find replacements? Contrary to popular belief, the reality competition didn’t implode after the acerbic judge’s departure.

With Jennifer Lopez potentially leaving, Nigel Lythgoe and company are working on a plan B should negotiations with Lopez fail. Just like 2010 and with the “X Factor judging drama earlier this year, multiple names are being tossed around. Names from Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Fergie and will.i.am are reportedly in the mix. Katy Perry was also a potential replacement, but the singer addressed the rumors to the Hollywood Reporter.

“People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved, and it’s not right for me yet.” Perry adds, and “it’s a real commitment to be on one of those shows. … I have ideas for two or three big, creative things, and I want to be able to fulfill those ideas.”

Personally, I’m a little bummed about Katy. I thought she was excellent during her guest judging stint on AI a few seasons ago. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. With her out of the running, the producers are also looking within the Idol family as a potential solution. Find out below which former contestant is on their short list.

Yesterday afternoon, a few friends and I hit the movie theater for an afternoon matinee of Katy Perry’s new docu-film “Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D.” Admittedly, I am a fan of the Justin Bieber doc and watch it fairly frequently when I am in need of inspiration. I had seen multiple previews and sneak peek clips from the film to know that I would probably feel the same way about this little flick. From the moment I opened my unique pink and baby blue 3D glasses, I knew we were in for a Katy Perry ride and like a tween-age fan, I was more than ready to see what was in store.

The film kicks off with a bunch of Katy’s fans screaming and crying at the camera about how much Katy and her music has changed their lives, what they mean to her, all underscored by her hit, “Teenage Dream.” We watch as Katy heads underneath the stage to be revealed to the crowd at Staples Center where all of the live concert footage was filmed. Sporting a spinning candy dress, Katy’s fans go absolutely ape the moment she appears on stage. Cue the 3D magic and away we go.

Katy Goes Gaga For Vogue Italia

In: Random Reads, Tyrell

Katy Perry has a big weekend coming up. Her 3D movie Part of Me hits theaters and is sure to draw in some big crowds who want to learn more about her venture into pop superstardom. Personally, I cannot wait to check out the film myself. I remember being highly skeptical about Justin Bieber’s 3D movie documentary but then, left feeling really inspired by the whole film. I’m sure Katy’s film will not disappoint. Unrelated entirely to her film, Katy is getting some more attention after posing in a new set of photos for fashion mag, Vogue Italia.

Ditching her signature style of wavy, long locks and candy colored and studded clothing, Katy dons some very Gaga-like inspired pieces which actually make the popstar look pretty fierce. In sharp angled bob wigs, a really high neck chocker and some great heels, Katy is definitely not afraid to show off another “part of her.” She recently posed as a matador for L’UOMO as well. Maybe Katy’s just really into playing dress up? More of Katy’s photo shoot with Vogua Italia below.

You know, I love Katy Perry‘s music videos and this one is no exception. Just released is her video for “Wide Awake,” one of her first big singles following her breakup with Russell Brand (the other being “Part Of Me“). The video is sort of being used as a tie in for her upcoming documentary, ‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me‘, as it tells the modern day fairy tale story of Katy Perry’s life. The film hits theatres on July 5.

The “Wide Awake” video was directed by Tony T. Datis and Lance Drake and shows some of the obstacles she’s faced in her life, whether that’s the paparazzi in the mirror or the Prince Charming not being so charming after all. It’s also super cute that in the video she encounters the childhood version of herself who helps her along the way. Towards the end she rides away on her bicycle, with a licence plate that reads, “Kathryn”. She gives Katy something and puts it in her hand. After the girl leaves, Katy opens her hand to free a butterfly and finds herself on stage ready to perform once again.

Watch the video below! Once upon time, there was a girl name Kathryn who dreamed of being a superstar. Little did she know her dream would eventually come true…

Tonight, Canada rocked the corner of Queen and John in the heart of Toronto for the annual MuchMusic Video Awards aptly nicknamed the MMVAs. The night celebrates the best in Canadian music with a little bit of International flare. Joining the usual MuchMusic VJ’s on stage to present were Party Rockers LMFAO who kicked off the show with a bang. Joining them on stage was none other than Canada’s current it-girl, Carly Rae Jepsen.

Speaking of Carly Rae, home girl walked away with three awards throughout the evening including the biggest award of the night, Video of the Year. The night included some heavy hitting presenters like sexy men Chord Overstreet and Jesse Metcalfe along with appearances from Selena Gomez and Perez Hilton.

The night was also alive with performances from international stars Justin Bieber and Nelly Furtado who originally hail from Canada along with superstars Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry. Canadian talent was also represented well with performances from Hedley and Rock Video of the Year winners, Mariana’s Trench. Check out the evening’s rockin’ performances and winners’ circle below.

Last night, comedic actor Russell Brand appeared on The Graham Norton Show to promote his new film, “Rock of Ages.” While Graham asked a lot of great questions regarding the new film and upcoming project, one question that hit a sour chord with Brand was removed from the show’s actual airing. Graham began to grill Russell on his recent divorce from pop star, Katy Perry in which Brand responded with the following:

“My mum is here. She got upset when you dragged up my marriage. I saw her cry. That’s the reality because it’s real people Graham, that’s my real mum. I have come here to promote a film and you made my mum cry. I don’t see you as that sort of person Graham.”

Graham fired back by saying he doesn’t see himself as that kind of person, but Brand insisted that he was. Katy Perry had appeared on Norton’s show only a short week before and Graham claims if he wouldn’t have brought it up, it would have been weird. Russell is criticized Norton for not pre-approving the discussion with him prior to the interview. Brand explains below.

Billboard: Summer Songs Of The 2000s

In: Donovan, Music

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Billboard’s summer hits compilation of the 1990s. Today, I thought reminiscing about the songs that had us grooving during the summer months after the turn of the century would be fun. I love summer and I love Top 10 lists. Consider me happy.

The thing that surprised me the most about the Top 10 lists is how drastically the music landscape has changed in the past few years. Now it’s all about electro-pop dance tracks dominating radio and the charts, while R&B barely has a presence anymore. Urban music took pole position in the majority of the years from 2000-2010. Find out below which tracks had you bumpin‘ and grindin‘ at the clubs and accompanied you on those road trips during the summers of the 2000s.

Over the weekend, pretty much all of the biggest names in music right now performed at the Capital FM Summertime Ball 2012 at Wembley Stadium in London. You may recall that yesterday I posted a special DJ Earworm mashup of all of these songs & performers. If you haven’t checked it out the video and downloaded the song (free), you should.

With artists like Kelly Clarkson, Justin Bieber, The Wanted, Cheryl Cole, Usher, Carly Rae Jepsen, Connor Maynard and countless others, it was one epic concert that I would have loved to have been at.

I’ve compiled a bunch of the performances from many of the big artists that were there. Of course many performed multiple songs, but I decided to choose some of my favorites. Cheryl Cole’s, “Call My Name” performance was hot! Enjoy the videos below.
