Hey fellow homos. How’s everyone’s Christmas shopping getting along? Thankfully, Patrick and I completed a big chunk of our list yesterday afternoon. Getting out of the house to do a few holiday tasks definitely helped get me in the Christmas spirit, something I feel like I have been lacking in this year. If you are like me and need a little holiday pep, I’ve decided to compile a list of some of my favorite Christmas tracks to add to your playlist. Here we go. (Please note, this article is being written very tongue in cheek.) Enjoy!
This song is a must-have on your holiday homo playlist. It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser at any party and will make your spirits gay and bright! It doesn’t hurt that George Michael who’s on our team is the mastermind behind this Christmas tune that we all know and love. See more of my holiday favorites below.
Last night, the 2013 Grammy Nominations concert took place, revealing this year’s nominees and inadvertently, those who surprisingly weren’t nominated. Leading the pack this year were Fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, and Kanye West who scored six nominations each. Following their lead were The Black Keys and Miguel with five nods. Vocal powerhouse, Kelly Clarkson was treated to four nominations, Taylor Swift got three, and Canada’s own Carly Rae Jepsen, got two nominations.
Both Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj were both snubbed by the Grammys this year. Nicki Minaj was nominated for “Best Rap Album” last year, but moving into the pop category this year, she didn’t make the cut. I’m genuinely surprise that Bieber didn’t get nominated for his Believe album – I thought the album was quite strong myself. His manager Scooter Braun took to Twitter to voice his opinion. After first congratulating Carly Rae Jepsen, he said, “this time there wont be any wise words, no excuses, I just plain DISAGREE. The kid deserved it. Grammy board u blew it on this one… He later added, “the hardest thing to do is transition, keep the train moving. the kid delivered. Huge succesful album, sold out tour, and won people over…” In another tweet, he insisted, “…this time he deserved to be recognized and I dont really have any kind nice positive things to say about a decision i dont agree with.”
In any event, he didn’t get nominated but the giant list of people below did. The 55th annual Grammy Awards air Sunday, February 10, on CBS. Check out the nominees below. As a side note, Donovan had previously listed his “Best New Artist” predictions, getting two out of the thirteen options listed correct. I’ve made note of the two he got right underneath that category. In his poll, post people picked Carly Rae Jepsen, but she actually wasn’t nominated in that category.
The Victoria’s Secret models are found lip syncing in a video that is supposed to be Justin Bieber‘s lost personal footage. You may recall that is exactly how they filmed the actual music video to Bieber & Nicki Minaj’s “Beauty and a Beat” track, which (not so coincidentally) is the song the models are lip syncing to.
I wonder if this video adds fuel to Selena Gomez’s fire considering she allegedly wasn’t too thrilled about some of the pictures Bieber was posting on Twitter with the models while at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show (which airs on December 4).
Are you going to watch the Victoria’ Secret Fashion Show this week? I’m quite certain Donovan will be ;) Enjoy he video below.
Bing has just released their Top Searches for 2012, revealing the biggest stories of the year and what most people wanted to know about. The most searched for song was Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” while the second was “Call Me Maybe“. Will all of the judges drama, the most searched television show was American Idol, while the most searched movie was The Avengers.
As for celebrities, they do have specific categories like fashion designer (ie. Michael Kors), celebrity event (ie. Beyonce’s baby), and celebrity couples among others, but they also have an overall most searched person as well. Last year, that person was Justin Bieber (and within Canada at least, that remains the same). That being said, overall, there is a new number one most searched person. Find out who it is as well as who else made the top 10 list below.
Yesterday, the Calgary Stampeders and the Toronto Argonauts faced off at the 100th CFL Grey Cup in Toronto, with the Argonauts taking taking the title in the end. Recently, I wrote about some of the Argonauts players speaking out about homophobia.
During the halftime show, Canadian pop superstars, Justin Bieber and Carly Rae Jepsen performed two songs each. Although they may be two of the most popular Canadian pop stars right now (with Justin Bieber’s Oprah interview with Oprah airing in over 100 countries last night), I wouldn’t have pictured them as the right acts for football fans. Given that, apparently Justin Bieber was booed during his performances of “Boyfriend” and “Beauty and a Beat”. Although he may not be the type of music the football fans normally listen to, in my opinion I think that’s pretty lame for Canadians to be unsupportive of their own talent – especially one who has done so well for himself and worked so hard to get to where he his.
Carly Rae Jepsen, who Bieber has gone out of his way to support, performed “Call Me Maybe” and “This Kiss” during the show. Other performances included “Stutter” by Marianas Trench as well as a song by folk/pop/country singer, Gordon Lightfoot. Watch all of the performances below as well as the moment where the Argonauts took home the win.
Justin Bieber is definitely really trying to push his sex symbol status with his “Beliebers”. He recently told Canada’s Macleans magazine, “I’ve been working out in the gym, getting bigger, trying to get sexy for the ladies.” Not sure if that includes Selena Gomez, with whom he has had an off again relationship.
Yesterday, the 18-year old (almost 19) posted a shirtless picture on Instagram / Twitter while in the gym (showing his underwear as well). The caption reads, “Back in the gym.” He later added another tweet, “Good workout. #focused“. Whatever helps him sell I guess and at least he’s not looking like a lesbian anymore. The Canadian pop star has sold well over 15 million albums so far.
So funny that the picture was posted the day that Ryan Steele uploaded the “Likes” video that poked fun at people posting “progress” pictures via social media. I’m guilty of doing that recently on Instagram (but I was honestly proud of the progress – LOL). So, to each their own and I can laugh at myself for doing it as well. Check out Justin Bieber’s progress pic below.
On Sunday, November 25 on Oprah’s Next Chapter, global superstar Justin Bieber, who took away more trophies than anyone else last night at the American Music Awards, sits down with Oprah Winfrey in a one-on-one interview.
Some clips from the interview have been released, including Oprah and Bieber talking about Selena Gomez, shopping, and how he deals with the fame. Oprah is really building this one up, saying, “In 1993, I did an interview that went live around the world within 24 hours with Michael Jackson. Not since then have I done an interview like this…with Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber is a phenomenon for our time. And just like Elvis Presley, and just like The Beatles and also like Michael Jackson, he has millions of screaming fans all over the world who adore him.”
The episode will air in more than 100 countries worldwide premiering on Sunday, November 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on OWN. Get your first look at the interview below.
Typically, I don’t write a recap of the American Music Awards, but I have to give credit where credit is due… this year’s AMAs wasn’t a complete snoozefest. In fact, there were a couple of performances that were fantastic including Kelly Clarkson’s medley of her greatest hits and P!nk’s beyond impressive performance of “Try“. I never thought she’d top her hanging from the rafters acrobatic performance from the MTV VMAs a few years ago, but she did. For those young artists who can’t move around the stage without losing their breath, take a look at P!nk. Breath control to die for.
Justin Bieber walked away with the most trophies with three, while everyone musically-connected to him also scored hardware. His “Beauty and the Beat” duet partner, Nicki Minaj won two, while his mentor Usher also earned another AMA award. Even his “discovery” Carly Rae Jepsen took a trip to the podium. The Canadian singer won Best New Artist.
While all the youngsters earned wins, some oldies popped up on the show as well. Gloria Estefan, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Wonder end even MC Hammer were there. I swear, when the “U Can’t Touch This” rapper popped up during Psy’s “Gangnam Style” performance, I literally lost my shizz. That was effin’ epic. All this time I thought “Gangnam Style” was the new “Macarena”. Instead, Psy is the Korean version of MC Hammer. Sh*tcatcher pants and all. Check out all the performances below, along with my thoughts on each one. Better hurry quick, before ABC inevitably asks YouTube to take the clips down.
