What a difference a search engine makes. On Bing’s year-end list, Beyonce earned top honors for most searched celebrity in 2013. On Yahoo!, she doesn’t even rank in the Top 10. Taking not only the No. 1 slot as top-searched female celebrity but also top Yahoo search term overall is Miley Cyrus. Not at all surprising given all her headline-grabbing antics this year.
Cyrus beat out fellow celebrities for Yahoo!’s top honor. Kim Kardashian (#2), Kate Upton (#3) and Selena Gomez (#5) all just fell short. Gotta hand it to Kardashian. Regardless of what search engine, she’s near the top. She also landed the runner-up slot on Bing’s list, while Miley ranked at No. 9. Again I ask, who and why are people searching for Kimmy K?
Other top search terms in 2013 include Minecraft (#4), Obamacare (Affordable Care Act) (#6), Amanda Bynes (#7), Jodi Arias (#8), iPhone 5 (#9) and Justin Bieber (#10). Check out other Top 10 year-end lists from Yahoo! below.
Several weeks ago, a video showcasing Justin Bieber and his entourage goofing around at the Great Wall of China debuted online. The 19-year-old wisely decided to give the track a proper music video. Smart business move considering radio is supporting the track. I definitely don’t have Bieber Fever, but “All That Matters” is one of his better tracks he’s recently released. The electric guitar is beyond sexy.
The Collin Tilley-directed clip is relatively simple given the budget Bieber has access to, but it works. The sultry moody video is a perfect complement to the track’s stripped-down production. Check out the newly-released visual below.
When it comes to ranking celebrities, Forbes isn’t the only game in town. Billboard just revealed a list of their own. The music publication ranked the Top 21 musical acts under the age of 21. Given the number of musicians discovered by Simon Cowell, Billboard should really consider renaming their annual list in his honor. His acts bookend the list, with a couple sandwiched smack-dabbed in the middle.
If you’re like me, you’ve only probably heard of a few of them. That is unless you’re actually under 21. Check out which minor is a major player in Billboard’s eyes. Find out how One Direction, Miley Cyrus, Fifth Harmony, Lorde, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Cher Lloyd and others rank. I’ve also embedded music videos from each act to familiarize yourself with their work.
Judging by her raunchy performance at the MTV VMAs, Miley Cyrus is one expert twerker. It’s only fitting she sings about the booty dance craze. How convenient is it that the track “leaked” just days after her headline-grabbing performance?
The “We Can’t Stop” singer teams up with Justin Bieber and Lil Twist on the new track titled, appropriately enough, “Twerk.” The leaked version doesn’t feature any rhymes by the rapper which leads me to assume this isn’t the final cut. Had I not read that Cyrus was featured on the track, I could’ve sworn it was Kreayshawn. In essence, Miley does a pretty spot-on impression of the female MC. Check out the track below.
Canadian export, Justin Bieber has done a lot of things that have rubbed people the wrong way in the past year. He’s at the point in his life where he’s no longer a boy while at the same time, the fame is getting to his head. He doesn’t seem as genuine and down to earth as he once did and he comes across as very entitled and well… douchie.
In a new video for a web series called “Senior Citizens React,” a handful of elders watch clips of some of the inappropriate or annoying things Justin Bieber has done this year and we get to see their reactions and their take on the Bieber. One woman says, “I need to call his mother,” while another says, “his attempts to be gangsta with street cred is an epic failure.” LOL!
Other Senior Citizens React videos include reactions of The Lonely Island Boys, Twerking, Eye Ball Licking, “Gangnam Style,” and more. Check out this latest video below.
So much for those rumors about an American Idol alum judging panel. BOOOOO. I was really hoping that would come to fruition. It’s exactly what the show needed (IMHO) to usher in a new era without Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick as producers. Instead, they’re going with the familiar.
During FOX’s turn at TCA Press Tour, Kevin Reilly, the chairman of entertainment for FOX, discussed the upcoming season of American Idol. He confirmed Keith Urban signing on for another stint on the judging panel. He also addressed rumors that Jennifer Lopez is THIS close to returning to the show. “Most of what you’re reporting or you read is true. … [Jennifer Lopez] has been a close part of the show all along. There have been discussions there. There is no deal with her or with anybody else.”
Since Simon Cowell’s departure, the veteran reality show became all about the celebrity judges. Reilly is hoping to change that.
“We want some judges in that are good at the job, that people like, that refocus the attention on the contestants. … It really became too much about the judges. The show’s always been about the contestants. … Let’s really focus on some great stories with the kids,” says Reilly.
Personally, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. Do you? Excited that Urban is back for Season 13 and potentially J. Lo? Sound off below.
What’s your song of the summer so far? Is it Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky?” How about “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke? Perhaps it’s Pitbull and Christina Aguilera’s catchy dance anthem “Feel This Moment?” DJ Earworm definitely considers them as viable contenders for the 2013 summer crown. The musical genius has once again worked his magic and delivered another wicked mashup. Praise the dance gods he doesn’t just do a year-end one.
Along with the aforementioned tracks, DJ Earworm includes hit tracks from Demi Lovato, Rihanna, Icona Pop, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Zedd, will.i.am and Justin Bieber to name a few. Props to my buddy Trevor Guthrie for getting a nod for his collaboration with Armin van Buuren in the mashup.
As much as I love DJ Earworm’s latest masterpiece, I feel he unfairly snubbed Selena Gomez’s “Come & Get It,” Mariah Carey’s “#Beautiful,” Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors,” and Miley Cyrus’ oddly addicting “We Can’t Stop.” I’ve definitely have all those songs on heavy rotation. Check out Earworm’s new mash below.
After two years stuck in the runner-up slot, Oprah Winfrey returns to the top of the heap. For the fifth time ever, the 59-year-old mogul tops Forbes annual list of the 100 Most Powerful Celebrities. Unlike most lists from the publication, this list isn’t solely based on earnings and net worth. Rather, a combination of press mentions, social media power and naturally cha-ching is used in their formula. For the first time ever, a marketability score has been added to the mix.
Last year’s top dog, Jennifer Lopez, drops to No. 12. No doubt in part to her leaving American Idol. Even though she received less press mentions and lost that salary, abandoning that sinking ship was a wise career move. Even with J. Lo’s absence, six of the Top 10 spots are occupied by women. Check out the entire Top 100 list below.
