Jennifer Lopez Feels The Light In New Music Video

In: Donovan, Movies, Music

Jennifer Lopez performed her new ballad on last night’s episode of American Idol. Her choice of gown was relatively demure and prom-like and not the revealing and sparkly designs the 45-year-old entertainer typically wears.

After watching her new music video, it all makes sense. The gown’s train is used as a backdrop as animated aliens dance around her. In essence, J. Lo is a glorified projector screen ;)

Feel The Light” is lifted off the soundtrack for Dreamworks’ animated film Home. Lopez provides the voice of Lucy Tucci, the mother of lead character Tip played by Rihanna. Check out her bright and colorful new visual below.

One of the most popular segments on The Tonight Show feature the guests squaring off against Jimmy Fallon in a lip sync battle. Fallon takes his dog and pony show over to Spike TV for a brand new series hosted by LL Cool J and supermodel Crissy Teigen. Think RuPaul’s Drag Race Lip Sync For Your Life but with no drag queens.

Lip Sync Battle (catchy title LOL) will pit two celebrities performing two songs per episode. The audience ultimately picks the winner.

The network just dropped a brand new star-studded trailer featuring The Rock performing Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off,” Stephen Merchant channeling his inner “Dirrty” and Anna Kendrick tackling Jennifer Lopez’s “Booty.”

To sway votes her way, the Pitch Perfect actress brings out J. Lo for a surprise cameo. Kendrick’s opponent, John Krasinksi, has something special up his sleeves for a rebuttal. Find out below. Lip Sync Battle commences on April 2 on Spike TV.

Both Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez provide voices for DreamWorks’ upcoming animated film, Home. RiRi plays a teenage girl named Tip while J. Lo taps into her maternal side to play her mother.

I wonder how the 45-year-old American Idol judge feels about that. To be fair, Lopez could pass more as her sister. Lopez has definitely found the fountain of youth and isn’t sharing her secrets.

RiRi forgoes the acoustic vibe of “FourFiveSeconds” and opts instead for a tribal beat for “Towards The Sun.” The track is somewhat reminiscent of her Coldplay collaboration, “Princess of China.” Meanwhile, Jenny from the Block goes the ethereal route with breathy vocals on the ballad “Feel The Light.”

Others featured on the film soundtrack include Kiesza and Charli XCX. Home hits theaters on March 27. Check out “Towards The Sun” and “Find The Light” below and weigh in afterwards.

youtube-10th-anniversary

Ten years ago today would forever change the landscape of the Internet. YouTube was officially founded by three former PayPal employees. The first video, however, wasn’t upload until April 23, 2005 by one of the co-founders. If you’re curious, “Me At The Zoo” can still be viewed on the video-sharing website.

In honor of YouTube’s 10th anniversary, I’ve embedded the Top 10 viewed videos. The lowest garnering 796,000 to the cream of the crop with over 2 billion clocks. Not surprisingly, music dominates the list. Especially Katy Perry and PSY who both nab two entries each. The sole exception being “Charlie Bit My Finger – Again!.” Check out the most popular clips ever below.

American Idol XIII Promo: The Stats Don’t Lie

In: Donovan, TV Shows
american-idol-13-promo-statistics

Up until now I’ve refrained from posting any of FOX’s American Idol promos. With their latest though, I couldn’t resist. As I’ve said before, until The Voice can produce a bonafide superstar like Idol has, the veteran competition will still be on top. The statistics don’t lie as evident in their latest promo.

408 #1 hits, 19 platinum albums, 11 Grammys, and an Academy Award. It’s safe to say that no one has a track record like American Idol! Hell, they even have a Dancing With The Stars mirrorball trophy thanks to Kellie Pickler. The only thing missing from their mantle is an Emmy. That’s the one category that The Voice has bragging rights. The NBC show recently dethroned The Amazing Race for Best Reality Competition.

American Idol returns to FOX on January 15. Though they’ll never return to their glory days, I predict Season 13 will be a comeback of sorts. Harry Connick, Jr. is the best thing that’s happened to the show in ages. The chemistry on the new judging panel is undeniable and infectious. Check out the new promo below, along with the previously released ones. I highly recommend, “Who Will Be Next?,” “Inside Look At Season XIII,” “Fun With The Judges,” along with “The Stats Don’t Lie.”

2013-amas-performances-winners

The 41th annual American Music Awards took place at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre Live on Sunday night with Mr. Worldwide aka Pitbull hosting. Random choice, right?

Heading into the evening, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis had the most nominations with six. Even though they nabbed two AMAs, Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night. The 23-year-old singer won four awards – Artist of the Year, Favorite Country Female Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, and Favorite Country Album for Red. It was her third time winning the year’s top prize!

The top male dog was Justin Timberlake who walked away with three statues. Other multiple winners were One Direction and Rihanna. The AMAs bestowed the latter with their first ever Icon Award which was presented to her by her mom. Adorable.

With regards to performances, Lady Gaga in my opinion stole the show alongside R. Kelly with their sexually-charged tribute to JFK and Marilyn Monroe. Other memorable highlights include Katy Perry’s Japanese-themed “Conditionally” number, DWTS’ Maks Chmerkovskiy tossing around J. Lo during her Celia Cruz homage, Miley Cyrus being accompanied by a giant kitty and Christina Aguilera’s beautiful duet with A Great Big World.

On the flip side, I was underwhelmed with both Ariana Grande and TLC. The former was fantastic vocally but a tad boring, while the latter served practically zero energy during their “Waterfalls” performance with Lil Mama subbing in for the late Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes. Check out all the performances and winners below.

Reportedly, the idea to record a dance track together came during their joint tour in summer 2012. A year later we have the finished product, albeit a leaked remix by Madd Scientist, but it’s something.

If Jennifer Lopez and Enrique Iglesias isn’t enough star wattage for you. Snoop Lion also raps a few random verses. Depending on which source you read, the track is either titled “Ignite” or “Physical.” Check it out below.

During her four sold-out shows at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, Taylor Swift enlisted a few of her famous friends to make appearances. Jennifer Lopez, Ellie Goulding, Sara Bareilles, Tegan & Sara and Cher Lloyd popped up on stage to perform one of their signature hits with the 23-year-old singer.

In a new behind-the-scenes look at her Red concert tour, her duet partners share their thoughts about their experience performing with the “Trouble” singer. Watch the seven-minute long clip below to hear what they say, along with the actual performances.
