When Jason Derulo jumped onto the scene, I thought he’d be another one-hit wonder, maybe two. Instead, the 25-year-old singer continually delivers catchy numbers. His current single, “Want to Want Me,” which is currently climbing the charts, is on heavy rotation on my playlist. I just can’t get enough of it. His latest is another potential earworm in the making.
Derulo once again teams up with hitmaker Ricky Reed. The two previously delivered the one-two punch of “Talk Dirty” and “Wiggle.” The beat during the hook of his new offering, “Get Ugly,” is sick. This is a definite urban hit with a potential to cross over if a clean version is released.
“Get Ugly” is the latest taste of the Miami native’s upcoming LP, Everything Is 4, which arrives on May 29. It’s the first official ‘countdown single” on iTunes. I can’t wait to see what else he has up his sleeves. Give it a listen below.
The second annual iHeartRadio Music Awards took place over the weekend at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The event honors the best artists and biggest songs from the past year in several categories.
Taking home the big prize was Taylor Swift. She beat out the likes of Luke Bryan, Iggy Azalea, Ariana Grande and Sam Smith for “Artist of the Year.” The 25-year-old entertainer also snagged “Song of the Year” and “Best Lyrics” for “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space” respectively.
In addition to the expected categories, there were a few interesting out-of-the-box ones as well including “Best Fan Army” and “Renegade” awards. Justin Timberlake was bestowed the iHeartRadio “Innovator Award,” following in Pharrell’s footsteps who was last year’s inaugural winner.
Among those to hit the stage were Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, Jason Derulo, Meghan Trainor, Rihanna and Sam Smith to name a few. Taylor Swift surprised the audience when she joined Madonna for “Ghosttown.” Check out the performances below.
“I see this app as the wave of the future. I know my fans will swipe right.” That’s his official stance on why he chose to debut his newest music video on Tinder. But could his decision be partly a dig on his ex-fiance Jordin Sparks who debuted “Double Tap” on Instagram recently? I wouldn’t be surprised since there is no love lost between these former lovers.
“Want To Want Me” is the lead cut off Jason Derulo’s upcoming fourth studio album. The Ian Kirkpatrick-produced track is a slick and catchy number. Looks like the 25-year-old R&B singer has another hit on his hands, following “Wiggle” and “Talk Dirty.”
For the accompanying clip, Jason enlisted director Colin Tilley to film an equally slick visual. It’s pretty by-the-numbers with Derulo dancing, taking his shirt off, working out and making out with some chick. Check out the video below.
Both Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo feature duets with each other on their upcoming albums. While the American Idol Season 6 winner teased “Before It Breaks” weeks ago, it’s Derulo’s Tattoos duet that’s surfaced in full first. It’s clear Jason is smitten with Jordin. His current official single “Marry Me” is about how he imagines proposing to his girlfriend in the future. Now, he’s making beautiful music with her. The two definitely have chemistry in and out of the recording studio.
“Vertigo” isn’t what you’d expect from Jason’s typical dance-oriented fare. Instead, it’s on the simpler side with very minimal production. Even though I’m sometimes dead inside, I’m a sucker for slow-tempo duets. So this one is right up my alley. Give it a listen below.
How romantic would it be to have someone write a song about you? And not in a Taylor Swift bitter ex-girlfriend kind of way, because that would suck. Rather, have one telling the world just how fantastic you are. Jordin Sparks is lucky to have not only have someone so in love with her, but also have a guy who’s a talented songwriter.
Even though Jason Derulo and Sparks aren’t engaged (yet), the R&B singer debuted a new track where he declares his love to the woman he loves and how he imagines his wedding proposal will be with the American Idol Season 6 winner. “We’ll forever be in love, so there ain’t no need to rush,” Derulo tells his lady. “But one day I wont be able to ask you loud enough. I’ll say, ‘Will you marry me?’” “Marry Me” is the second cut from his upcoming effort, Tattoos. Give the romantic track a listen below.
She’s been behind some of the biggest hits in recent memory. In only makes sense that Bonnie McKee forge a recording career of her own. The 29-year-old singer-songwriter debuted the music video for “American Girl” and enlisted a few of her famous friends to lip sync for their lives.
Naturally, Katy Perry appears in the clip prominently considering McKee co-penned four of her No. 1 hits- “Teenage Dream,” “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.),” “California Gurls,” and “Part of Me.” Also making a cameo are other artists she’s written for including Adam Lambert (“Chokehold”), Taio Cruz (“Dynamite”), Ke$ha (“C’Mon”) and Carly Rae Jepsen (“Turn Me Up”).
Too bad Britney Spears (“Hold It Against Me”), Kelly Clarkson (“Hello”), Christina Aguilera (“Let There Be Love”) and Rita Ora (“How We Do (Party)” didn’t show up in the video. Oh well, there isn’t a shortage of familiar names “singing” her lyrics. Joan Rivers and her Fashion Police crew, Kathy Griffin, Lance Bass, George Takei, Nicole Scherzinger, Jewel and her hubby Ty Murray, Macklemore and plenty other randoms make an appearance. Check out the clip below.
Jordin Sparks is absolutely beaming in her spread for the February 2013 issue of Glamour magazine. Must be the fact she’s in love. She definitely has the glow about her. The American Idol Season 6 winner brought along her boyfriend Jason Derulo to show off the hottest date night beauty looks. The Sparkle actress cozies up with her beau for photographer Patric Shaw. They could possibly be the cutest celebrity couple around.
Loving Jordin’s hair in the editorial. It’s big, playful and untamed. I’m not alone in diggin’ her hairstyle. Derulo does as well. “She transforms herself with it,” he tells the publication. “I give her names for the people she becomes. When her hair is in a bun, I call her Simone. When it’s curly, I call her Chiquita.” Derulo goes on to share other traits he loves about her, along with opening up about their first dates. Check out more photos from their adorable photo shoot below.
FINAL NIGHT! First off, Tuesday? Really Idol? What’s up with these random Tuesday changeups? This is the second time you’ve thrown me for this loop and I am none too happy about it. At least I have a beautiful girl and sexy man to stare at all night as Phil Phillips and Jessica Sanchez duke it out as the Final Two on tonight’s last performance episode. Singing three songs each- their poor little vocal chords- the kids are laying it all on the line tonight as it all comes down to this. Hilariously, our “big side acts” tonight are Jason Derulo singing “Undefeated” and more awesomely Scotty McCreery, last year’s
loser winner who will sing “Please Remember Me“… First off, HOW freaking funny is the title of that song considering this barely talented moonshine making’ yokel has done NOTHING with his title of “America’s Idol” this past year. Oh no wait, he miss-lipsynched at some parade and it was embarrassingly captured on YouTube for the world to see. Slow clap there Southern Sam! Second, let’s take a minute to compare finale live show performances (albeit this is the second to last episode I doubt tomorrow will be much better): Idol gets Scotty McWHO? and The Voice gets frickin’ Justin Bieber? Kill yourself Nigel Lythgoe.
It’s been on the radio and news for a while now that people everywhere are strongly hoping this will be a woman’s year since no girl has won since Jordan Sparks in 2007; that’s five years of WGWG (white guys with guitars) and just what have those guys produced? Dick all, I’d argue! I’ve had my crush on for Phil for a good while now but honestly, I’m all about the ladies at this point and she’s my pick going into this evening. So, without further adieu, let’s see what they have for us tonight as they sing live from the Nokia Theatre in Hollywood!
