Celebrity Rehab Season 4: Meet The Trainwrecks

In: Donovan, TV Shows

VH1 just announced the newest cast of Celebrity Rehab with Doctor Drew. Jeremy London, Janice Dickinson and Jason Wahler are just three of the latest “celebrities” to go through detoxification and treatment at the Pasadena Recovery Center. The show originally was supposed debut sooner than late 2010, but the show had trouble finding big name addicts willing to air their dirty laundry and showcase their withdrawal symptoms. Seriously, who would want to participate in tear-filled group sessions on primetime TV? Even Tila Tequila had enough sense to drop out after initially committing to the show.

You knew the minute Jeremy London’s “kidnapping” slash forced to smoke marijuana ordeal made headlines everywhere, he’d show up in this orchestrated public mea culpa. It’s so sad how the former Party of Five hottie, was unable to translate his early success to a long-term career. On the flip side, I’m surprised it took this long for former supermodel and ANTM judge Janice Dickinson to seek counseling from Dr. Drew. To be perfectly honest, if I had to spend a summer in the jungle with Spiedi, I ‘d probably have a substance problem as well. I can’t even count how many reality shows this marks for Miss Janice. Looks like she has a famewhore addiction too.

Another person I’m surprised is finally taking action is Lauren Conrad’s former beau, Jason Wahler. The former Hills star has been arrested multiple times for DUI and was even holed up in a Mexican jail for a while. I’m sure he was a popular “toy” during his incarceration.

This has got to be the smartest move Tyra and Bankable Productions have made in the longest time. After a season of rotating guest judges, Vogue’s editor-at-large icon, Andre Leon Talley, is joining America’s Next Top Model for Cycle 14. Fashionistas and Vogue aficionados across the nation were probably wetting their designer panties when news broke out.

Personally, I am over-the-moon excited to see Leon Talley’s quips and critique at panel. I’ve been a huge fan of his ever since I started following fashion watching FashionTV. Besides Anna Wintour, Andre is fashion’s second biggest and most influential voice. He has been a front-row staple at all the major shows in Milan, New York, Paris and London for more than 25 years. In 2007, he was even ranked 45th in Out Magazine’s “50 Most Powerful Gay Men and Women in America”.

As excited as I am about Talley adding some actual fashion credibility to the farce ANTM has become, I’m a little worried about all the “testosterone” on the judging panel. Granted, both Jay Alexander and Andre Leon Talley aren’t the most masculine, but it would’ve been nice to hire a former or current supermodel to the mix. I guess Tyra is proving she’s the HBIC- Head Bitch In Charge- and not hiring a female judge. After both former ANTM judges, Janice Dickinson and Paulina Porizkova, publicly spoke out about Tyrant’s diva ways, she’s not risking another potential fallout with a fellow supermodel.

Tyrant Gets Grilled

Last week Tyra Banks was interviewed on Nightline by Cynthia McFadden and was asked some pretty tough questions, that she really was uncomfortable answering – so she didn’t. One of these questions was why two previous judges from America’s Next Top Model both had “not so nice” things to say about their ex-boss. She is referring to Janice Dickinson and Paulina Porizkova.

Tyra is also asked about how much she makes, her love life, and her life behind the scenes. Unfortunately the YouTube version has been taken off the web, but this version is still available (just know that the sound doesn’t totally match up the picture).

This wasn’t your typical fluffy celebrity interview. Cynthia asks Tyra some pretty tough questions that made her super uncomfortable, that I’m sure that when the cameras were turned off she would have thrown a little fit.

So, the premiere episode of this show aired on Monday. It will be on NBC Monday through Thursday, every week, for the month of June. Yikes! Here’s how it works: Eleven “celebrities” get dropped into the middle of the jungle in Costa Rica; their survival skills and comfort zones are tested. With eliminations, they battle it out to see who will become the King or Queen of the Jungle, thus, earning the most amount of prize money for their favourite charity. It’s all done by viewers voting in.

The first episode ended up being all about Speidi. Between the two of them, these two recently-married spoiled rich reality kids ended up crying, throwing a tantrum, and threatened/attempted to quit the show. Spencer cracked me up when he discussed the fact that he is a TV-Supervillain with the other contestants and how he has to live up to that- in addition to him saying that he is “King of America” as one of the biggest stars on TV… so with that he’ll be King of the Jungle next? AND, when he and Heidi couldn’t take anymore of the “hell” they felt they were being put through, they tried to head for The Hills by getting on the phone with the producer, saying that they wanted off the show as they were too rich and too famous to be sitting with such a D-List ensemble and it was not what they had signed up for. Looks like they took the drama from The Hills to The Jungle. Hmm, a spin-off? I gotta hand it to them though, the season finale of The Hills just aired, and in between this season and the next they are really leveraging their reality celebrity power with this show alongside a few cheesy music singles from each of them.
