When disco is mentioned, one can’t help but think of the iconic band, CHIC. They churned out some of the greatest hits from the genre including “Le Freak” and “Good Times.”
Nile Rodgers is the only surviving member of the band. He resurrected the group with a new lineup. The latest incarnation of the legendary disco-funk group just dropped a killer new track titled “I’ll Be There” that will no doubt become a club hit.
Supermodel Karlie Kloss stars in the sexy visual. She connects the past and the present, as explained by Rodgers. She visualizes the past looking at old school vinyl – then gets dressed and goes out to a current party to meet up with Stephen Galloway and the current ?CHIC? lineup happens to be play. The clip directed by Inez and Vinoodh also features vintage footage of the original CHIC members.
The video is being released today because it’s the vernal equinox. What’s that you ask? It’s when day and night are the same length—and because there’s a solar eclipse in parts of the Northern Hemisphere. I’m already obsessed with the single and the video. Check it out below.
Björk just unveiled the latest music video off her critically-acclaimed album, Vulnicura. As expected, it’s another wonderfully wacky eye-pleasing visual trip. The 49-year-old Icelandic singer never ceases to entertain her fans.
Björk puts on a leather body suit accessorized with an architecturally-stunning yellow headdress. It reminds me of a dandelion in some respects. Frequent Lady Gaga contributors, Inez and Vinoodh directed the clip. Here’s what they recently told Noisey about their video.
“Björk’s character for ‘Lionsong’ had to be smooth like a spider waiting in her web and seductive like a Balinese dancer cast in bronze. She is seen as if under a microscope, baring her heart while luring us inside the bloody galaxy of her own wound.”
Check out the visual below. It’s quintessential Björk.
Whenever you hear the term ‘baby prostitute‘ from Mean Girls, do you think of Selena Gomez or Ariana Grande? For me, the 22-year-old baby-faced “The Heart Wants What It Wants” singer immediately comes to mind. ‘Human cupcake‘ is a far more apt description for Grande, don’t you think?
Like so many former child stars before her, Gomez goes topless on a magazine cover to show she’s all grown up. Photographer duo Inez & Vinoodh snapped the editorial for V magazine. Check out more photos below, along with more quotes from the accompanying interview conducted by James Franco.
“I think the next time [I have a boyfriend] will be much different…which will definitely not be anytime soon. That’s a growing up kind of thing. I was 18 years old, and it was my first love. The older I get, I’m guarding certain things more.”
Rihanna premiered the music video for “FourFiveSeconds” yesterday but since we had some technical difficulties, I could only share it with you today. If you’re not a fan of the polarizing song, the moody clip probably won’t win you over.
RiRi rocks a vintage Sean John denim jacket in the black and white clip. She previously explained why she chose the all-American look. “Denim never goes out of style. It’s classic, it’s iconic, just like the fucking Beatles,” she shared.
Meanwhile Paul McCartney strums his acoustic guitar in several scenes while Kanye West does what Kanye West does best… overacts and gets dramatic.
The best parts of the Inez and Vinoodh-directed clip are when the three appear on the screen together. If they were wearing Gap clothing, this could easily pass for an ad campaign for the brand. Check out the video below.
This shoot must’ve felt really weird for Rihanna. She’s typically not wearing this much clothing. Am I right or am I right?
“In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world,” said Balmain’s creative director Olivier Rousteing in WWD. “When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete.”
The “Diamonds” singer makes her debut as Balmain’s latest celebrity ambassador in the first batch of photos for their Spring 2014 ad campaign. RiRi channels 90s realness with her curly bob while wearing a leather jumpsuit, super sexy houndstooth suit, gold chain link top and pink kimono-like robe. Frequent Lady Gaga photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin snapped the visuals.
I have to say, I’m liking this curly coif and subtle natural-looking makeup on Rihanna. Haute couture really suits her. Let’s face it, love Rihanna, but she can sometimes look a little trashy. Check out more images below.
Lady Gaga scored her second No. 1 album of her career. Though it debuted at the top slot, ARTPOP sold considerably less than its predecessor. Born This Way moved a whopping 1.1 million units during its first week while ARTPOP sold 258,000 copies. Sure, Born’s numbers were bolstered by a temporary 99 cent sale deal with Amazon, but even if you remove the discounted albums from the total, Born This Way still sold 668,000 copies- more than double what ARTPOP achieved.
To add insult to injury, both Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus earned bigger numbers with their recent releases. Prism sold 286,000 units, while Bangerz moved 270,000. Not even a season-high rated SNL appearance could bolster her numbers. Is Gaga passé?
Onto more positive news. The 27-year-old singer just released a new ARTPOP Film! Why she’s debuting it now is somewhat surprising. Perhaps last week might’ve been more timely. Don’t you think? Frequent collaborators Inez & Vinoodh capture Gaga in various outfits and sometimes nude in the two-minute long clip. Check it out below.
There hasn’t been a day this entire week on the site without a Lady Gaga post. Might as well keep the streak alive with another one about the “Applause” singer.
Last year, Gaga graced the cover of Vogue’s coveted September issue. This September, she finds herself on another publication’s cover, or should I say covers. V Magazine tapped Miss Germanotta for four covers. Whether she’s serving Chrissie Hynde fierceness in a sequined bolero or wearing a Versace paperclip dress, girlfriend is givin’ it. Gaga once again enlisted the dynamic photographing duo of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin to snap her in looks styled by her new fashion director Brandon Maxwell.
It’s definitely been a busy week for Mother Monster. From dealing with the leak of her new single, to hitting gay hotspots in West Hollywood to film the lyric video or just hitting the town in her clown makeup, the 27-year-old has been one busy drag queen ;) Check out all the covers below and weigh in on which one is your favorite.
Another day, another promo pic for Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP album. Once again, the photo was captured by Gaga’s frequent collaborators, Inez and Vinoodh. I can’t wait to hear the 27-year-old’s explanation for the prosthetic arm. It’s the second image that she’s incorporated the prop.
While I appreciate all the gorgeous artwork, I wish she followed a route similar to Katy Perry’s promotion for “Roar.” Those short snippet video promos from her are brill. What do you think of Gaga’s latest promo pic? Weight in below.
