NBC Finally Reveals Hannibal’s Fate

In: Donovan, TV Shows

Even though the 2013-2014 upfronts took place a couple of weeks ago, the fate of NBC’s Hannibal remained in the dark. It was the only scripted show still on the bubble. Despite low ratings, some controversy over its violent nature, and being pulled in Utah, the peacock network ordered a second helping of the Bryan Fuller drama. 13 episodes will most likely air midseason next year.

“We’re so proud of Bryan’s vision for a show that is richly textured, psychologically complex, and very compelling,” said NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke. “There are many great stories still to be told.”

With only 4.7 million weekly average viewers including DVR usage, the show is most likely the lowest-rated drama to get renewed on the major broadcast networks (The CW not included). I’m sure the fact the show is well-reviewed and has an upscale viewership in $100K+ homes helped in getting another season. Are you watching Hannibal? Excited for a second season? Sound off below.

For the first time ever, one of the most fascinating literary and film characters comes to life on television: psychiatrist-turned-serial killer, Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The new drama series titled Hannibal comes from Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Heroes) and is based on the characters from Thomas Harris’ classic novels.

Here’s the synopsis of the show:” Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…” It looks good!

The show also stars Laurence Fishburne, Caroline Dhavernas, Hettienne Park, Aaron Abrams and Scott Thompson (whom you probably know best from Kids In The Hall). Check out the first trailer below!
