The former Playboy bunny who hopped into acting has signed a deal with the Big O to develop a TV show together. What a strange team…
Backed by Harpo Productions, this new show is said to have the same format as The Oprah Winfrey Show. “You get a car, you get a car, you get car…EVERYBODY GETS A CAR!” Well, maybe not quite. What hasn’t been confirmed if it’s going to air on the OWN network or not.
A spokeswoman for Harpo Productions told the New York Post:
“We do not have anyone taking over for Oprah. We do have a development deal with Jenny McCarthy. We are exploring possibilities across a number of platforms.”
No one will ever really replace Oprah. No one.
Well, not really. It is speculated that her show is going to come to an end in 2011, then movie to her own network that will be a joint venture between her and Discovery Communications. The word on the street is that she was told “move it or lose it,” with reference to bringing her show over to the new network. There is supposed to be a press in the days ahead from Oprah and Discovery Communications announcing their plans for the network, OWN.
This means some big changes for Oprah. Oprah is a huge part of the windy city, Chicago…but the new network will be based in LA. That means she has to decide who’s she’s taking with her across the country to the new show. Some of these people have been with her since the show started!
Oprah was re-signed in 2004 with King World which is now part of CBS Television Distribution. Her contract expires in fall 2011 which, coincidentally will be the end of Oprah’s 25th season.
