In honor of Mother’s Day, I decided to rotate this post originally published a few years ago. Donovan and myself ranked our favorite all-time television moms. Let’s face it: at one point growing up, we’ve watched a few sitcoms and thought it’d be cool to have one of those TV moms as our own, especially when we were fighting with our real ones ;)
10. Sandy Hogan (Sandy Duncan) The Hogan Family (1986-1991)
Played by Sandy Duncan, she was the aunt that came in to effectively become the surrogate mom of the family after their mother, Valerie Harper, was killed off in the second season. She had a lot to deal with playing the role of the “mother” and it was a very interesting concept for that time, since it was not the conventional perfect family. Oh, do you remember that Jason Bateman was in this show? Here’s a link to the show’s intro to refresh your memory.
10. Elyse Keaton (Meredith Baxter) Family Ties (1982-1989)
There are three different reasons why Elyse Keaton made the list.
Holy ’90s blast-from-the-past mashup, Batman! She’s All That star Rachel Leigh Cook joins Saved By The Bell hottie, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Growing Pains legend, Tracey Gold in a hilarious new Funny or Die video tackling the crimes of the craft world and the black market world of Etsy.com. In the intro to the video, the site is explained as follows: “To many, it’s the website that women all over America turn to when their poetry careers don’t take off. But beneath it’s crafty veneer lies a teaming, unregulated black market and one person rules it all with an iron fist.”
In the following video, we learn that Etsy is run by a maniacal queen named Ellie Harper (Rachel Leigh Cook). After Maggie Chester (Tracey Gold) is attacked by the Queen of Etsy, FBI Agent Michael Peck (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) investigates. Harper is one woman that you don’t want to mess with. If you’ve seen Savages, she’s essentially Elena, which was Salma Hayek’s character (minus the accent and the drugs).

Jerk Kirk Cameron is at it again, this time in a PSA-like video for the National Organization For Marriage (NOM). As the video begins, a man named Damian Goddard introduces Cameron and talks about how he’s been unfairly persecuted by the mainstream media and how Cameron is a “Champion Of Marriage“. Barf.
Cameron preaches throughout the video and at one part in the video they show him speaking to a group of people where he says, “I do know this. I know that the same God who designed the universe, also designed marriage. And I’ve gotten to know him. And I’ve gotten to know his manual. And he speaks with authority on every subject including marriage and his advice trumps Oprah’s every time.” Oh no he didn’t!
Watch the self righteous Kirk Cameron speak in the PSA below. He’s the Champion Of Annoying is what he is.
Last night, former Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron was on Piers Morgan Tonight where he made some extremely ignorant and homophobic comments. The evangelical Christian was asked by Morgan if he thought homosexuality was a sin. “I think that it’s unnatural. I think that it’s detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.”
He then went on to share his stance on gay marriage. “I believe marriage was defined by God,” he explained. Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the Garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don’t think anyone else should either. So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don’t.”
As you’d expect, GLAAD has already released a statement. “In this interview, Kirk Cameron sounds even more dated than his 1980s TV character,” said Herndon Graddick, Senior Director of Programs at GLAAD. “Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans … with an increasing number of states recognizing marriage equality, Americans are seeing that marriage is about committed couples who want to make a lifelong promise to take care of and be responsible for each other and that gay and lesbian couples need equal security and legal protections. That’s not ‘redefining’ anything.”
So sad. Recently I wrote about 41 year old Andrew Koenig having gone missing since Valentine’s Day here in Vancouver, and his last activity (cell phone, etc.) being traced back to Stanley Park, downtown. Well a couple hours ago they found the Growing Pains star’s body. He was supposed to back in the US on February 16th
His family has sad that he suffered from depression and he was last in Vancouver staying with Burlesque star Jenny Magenta. She was very worried about him and even commented on my last article, since I was helping spread the work and Police tip line. It must be a terribly sad time for her, as well as Koenig’s family.
At the last Olympics in Beijing, he was arrested for protesting China’s Human Rights Violations. Even though he was suffering from depression, I wonder if there was any connection with this year’s Olympics and he was perhaps making a statement of some sort? Just a thought. No word on whether or not he had left a note or how he committed suicide.
