I recently wrote about the sad story of four officers being ruthlessly shot to their death while sitting at a coffee shop, by a man named Maurice Clemmons. Well, their memorial took place this week and over 1,000 mounties from Canada marched in unison into the Tacoma down where the memorial was being held to show their support for the four that lost their lives. Komo News was covering the event and the anchors were overwhelmed by the site and even said that it was sending chills down their spine to see them and to see such support from their “friends from the north”. They also described the RCMP has having most impressive traditions. I love Canada.
On November 29th, at 8:15am, the officers were shot and killed at a coffee shop on Steele Street, which was a regular hang out for them. Clemmons walked past the officers to the counter, looking as if he was going to order a coffee or something, but instead pulled out a gun and started shooting at them as they sat at their table. Two of the officers were “executed” as the sat, one shot as he stood up, and the fourth one was shot as he tried to take down the gunman, struggling all the way to the door. Clemmons also suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen but managed to survive….until he was found by an officer and shot as he tried to flee.
Check out the video of over 1,000 RCMP officers marching in to pay their respects after the jump…
The hunt for a killer comes to an end. We don’t write about these types of stories that often, but sometimes when it’s so close to home, and literally in the same city as Alex, it’s hard to ignore. Maurice Clemmons, a 37 ex-convict, was the suspect that the police were on the lookout for that had killed four Washington police officers in Seattle on Sunday, was shot by a 7 year veteran police officer at 2:45am this morning. After a two-day manhunt, the officer noticed a stolen car parked in a lot, that was running but no one was in it. The officer then approached the suspect outside the car and recognized him from the police photos, as the killer from Sunday. He asked him to show him his hands and when the suspect refused and proceeded to run around the car, the officer then shot him.
Back in May, Clemmons had been charged with child rape and assault on a police officer and is described as “unpredictable and erratic.”
